Wow, they changed half a word and added a hyphen!

It could be nice, but since we don't know much about...
The designer has a lot of good RPGs in his belt though, so it could be perfectly fine, but he was also the designer of the Marvel Heroic one. Don't misunderstand me, Heroic was nice in its own way, but it was a very specific kind of product with the glaring absence of character creation rules. If this ends up more oriented to a novice crowd (a reasonable act in itself) it could end up lacking in the same areas, although the silhouette on the cover kind of implies "make your own Marvel hero" vibes.
So generally optimistic and curious, but given that we'll get a playtest version in 2022 and the game in 2023 we won't know much in a while.

I reckon it will be D6 as a wild die and 3D6-2 (1-16 range) but what do I know? It will look great, play... uh... dunno, but I'm sure it will bring people back to this board to run some games and will last as long as it takes Disney to realise it's not going to sell a million copies a week and be cancelled in favour of a new run of Spiderman underpants and socks. Hmmm, must stay positive and not recall how the last three Marvel games have gone... Fingers crossed it will be awesome!*
*or at least not suck too badly.

No new news but I took a look at the cover for the first time and realised how out of comics I am. Is that Thor on there? Surprised they have an X Man (& woman though Wolverine turns up in every team everywhere I guess) but no Fantastic Four. I guess the crappy FF movies have them out of favour at Marvel though the X men stuff varied wildly from good to garbage. I'm expecting this to appeal to the kids so am actually looking forward to it as I might (note, *might*) be able to convince my 12 year old to drag himself away from Roblox/Fortnite to roll some dice with his old dad. Not gonna hold my breath though, at the moment he has no interest in supers.

Yeah, that's Thor as king of Asgard in the Donny Cates/Nic Klein/Matthew Wilson current run (a pretty amazing one, Cates tends to be on the bold side with ideas and Klein/Wilson manage some MEAN art). The FF are on Dan Slott's hands as a writer, for better or worse, although I don't know if that played a part. I guess that they just aren't on the forefront of things at the moment. And the current mutants... well, that's a lot to unpack and can't really be done in this thread.

Do not get too excited over the announcement 'the all-new D616 game system' because the name D616 just stands for the Earth Prime in Marvel's Multiverse... aka Earth-616 is the main Marvel Comics universe.

Don't read too much into that. May get bumped back again but here's hoping. I wonder if the playtest will come with a voucher or code or some such to use to buy the full/main game when it is released (which will presumably be after a year or so of feedback, playtesting and gathering interest).
Looking at some of the mega Kickstarters from the last few years I'm surprised that the major gaming companies and brands don't go down that route. WOTC, Marvel, DC etc. Guaranteed pre-sales and measure of interest, though I suppose pre-orders for the playtest do the same to a degree.

Yeah. Though I think this date might be pretty reliable, since it's the one listed on Amazon and other booksellers for pre-order.

I get a strong sense of deja vu from those layout pictures of the Cortex game. I suppose the art will be grabbed from the last few years so it boils down to whether you love the classic stuff (from previous games) or the modern 'digital' look (if that's the word to use) that Marvel uses these days. As for the game system, I don't think there's enough in those details shown to what kind of system it will use but I would have thought an opposed roll (for everything, be it for the environment or the characters who oppose you) will work. With stat ranges from -4 (rubbish) to +4 (max human) it doesn't put Spiderman as likely being able to press 10 tons, more like in the 1-5 ton range I'm guessing. Each game has their own take on the characters of course and most seem to forget (as the comics do) things the character may use or learn over time. I recall in the 'Spider-Island' storyline he gets trained by Shang Chi. Any write up of Spider-Man should be a badass Martial Artist I reckon. Alas not. Ah, retcons...

Early reactions to this elsewhere are...bad. Bad game design on top of bad adaptation to the genre and setting, WAAAAY too much math, and things that either have no explanation or make no sense despite the poor explanations. Basically taking the worst bits of DND and sticking the Marvel label on it. I think, as I mentioned above, I'll stick to Cortex.

They seemed determined to stick a class/level mechanic on the game (doubtless to appeal to the 5e D&D audience) and the write ups are out of whack. On another forum it's been pointed out that Thor is smarter than Spider-man with the write ups as they are. What version of the multi verse is that in?
I'm still waiting for the playtest (Amazon UK had all their copies sucked up by the US, cheers guys) but is the Miles Morales write up the same rank as the Peter Parker Spider-man? Wha...? MM is a teen learning his stuff and Parker a late twenty something having done the swinging around in tights things for years and they are the same level? What's the ... anyway.
This is just a playtest and they'd do well to take note of the negative reaction to the game but I know what will happen. Someone will state 'we're too far in to change' and it will come out, be negatively received and cancelled in a short time. We've seen that before, several times now.
I'll still buy it but then I'm a sucker for buying doomed games.

I managed to get my hands on a copy. Haven't really looked at it much yet, but if anyone else wants to talk about it, you know where to find me.
