True. One of the best was Ray Park for Toad.

Yeah, I liked the casting for the X-Men movies. Possibly some of the best of the superhero movies lately, at least I think so. Well, not the best, but certainly in the top 10. Or 15 at the least.

Absolutely... except the 3rd, if you ask me. They really messed that one up. Same for Spidey 3.

I liked the third movie. Sure, not the best but it seemed more epic, bigger and broader than the rest. I liked that, and the final battle was great. So, I liked X: 3 Wasn't as crazy about Spider Man 3. That should've been better than it was. What went wrong?

I think DB would make a good Namor. He plays "brooding but arrogant" very well. The only downfall is that he's got too much of a sense of humor, and it shows through at times.
As far as X-Men... "good casting"?? Really? I'm sorry, but... what???
Hugh Jackman as Wolverine = the WORST casting of an important character in human history. He's awful in every possible way, starting with not looking remotely like Wolverine, and ending with not fighting remotely like Wolverine (except for the "fight in the woods" in X3)
Famke Jansen as Jean Grey... yeah, brilliant. Why is Scott Summers sleeping with his mother, again? I know some guys like the silver foxes, but c'mon... thats pushing it. Also, her 'red" hair looked so completely real 8)
The chick that played Rogue, whose name I can't even remember, is awful. Just. Awful.
Speaking of just awful... Halle Barry as Storm. FOFL! C'mon. Its the only time I've EVER seen a web petition begging a film company to drop an actor from a movie series.
The rest of the casting was okay, but the only piece of "good" casting in the entire series was Patrick Stewart as Professor X. Everybody else was, at best, adequate. I have to give some props to Shawn Ashmore as Iceman... given how little he had to work with, he did a good job.
Marvel's movies in general tend to have crappy casting. The entire Spider-Man series was poorly cast with the exception of Topher Grace and Thomas Haden Church (and Topher Grace SHOULD have been Peter Parker in the first place...).
IMO, the first glimpses of genuine good casting for Marvel movies were Iron Man (the entire cast was well chosen, but I think its obvious that Downey as Stark is one of the best pieces of casting every done) and Hulk (hated Liv Tyler, but Edward Norton was perfect).
As far as the films themselves... Spider-Man 3 was alright. I've certainly seen worse super hero films. But it was just "alright" when it could have been great.
X-3... ugh. That movie was a total mess. Magneto abandoned everything we'd been led to believe he was the rest of the series ("hey, let a bunch of mutants get shot up with magic power stealing bullets, what do I care, its not me!"), they introduced about 20 totally unnecessary new characters, and KILLED SCOTT SUMMERS. The only bright point in that movie was that we FINALLY got to see Wolverine actually fight like Wolverine (and we got to see Beast fight like Beast).

Excellent résumé. And the 20 unnecessary characters aren't "introduced", but rather "thrown" through the movie without any care to where they're going to land. I mean, come on... Jamie Madrox... one of my favorite Marvel characters... he's there for like two minutes in the whole movie: he's freed by Magneto, and then he acts as a decoy and is captured. WTF?!!

I'm not sure that Patrick Stewart as Professor X can count as "good" casting - Patrick Stewart is great for ANY role. He's just... Patrick Stewart. Who else would you cast as Professor X? He even looks like him! More "blatantly obvious casting" in my opinion.

Actually, Patrick Stuart IS professor X. ;D

I still think you have to give credit where its due. There are plenty of cases where casting SEEMS obvious, and the studios choose otherwise. Patrick Stewart made a great Professor X.

I suppose that's true enough. There really wasn't any better pick though. He had the accent, he had the exact look... One wonders if one wasn't modeled after the other.

LOL except that when Professor Xavier was invented, Patrick Stewart was 23 years old, unheard of, and (probably) had hair.
Also, Xavier never had an English accent in the comics (having been born and raised in upstate New York) until Patrick Stewart.
Still, I do agree that there is nobody who could have done better with the role.
While we're on the subject, actually I have to say that the guy who played Cyclops was as dead-on as I could have asked for. Perhaps a bit "boyish" in appearance, but he played the buttoned down team leader guy very well.

Yeah, Cyclops was pretty good - that was another problem of mine with X3, is that they tried to do the Phoenix angle... And killed off Scott? What?

Right, exactly. They did Phoenix without the romantic tragedy of it all, AND they made a pivotal event in the development of the X-Men into a side-story that took back seat to the main plot. Or was it the main plot and the whole "Mutant cure" thing the side-story? Its almost impossible to tell, as jumbled as that movie was.

In the real world, it was because he was off to do Superman Returns. In the frame of the movie, it's because like everyone else, they wanted more Wolverine.

Yeah, and look how Superman Returns worked out for him...
At any rate, CURSE YOU WOLVERINE!!
