Seeing as MURPG uses flashbacks to reward player description, I thought why not go the whole way and introduce splash pages. You know what I mean, action so awe inspiring that it takes a whole page of one image to capture the intensity of the moment.
Of course, the trouble is how to bring it into MURPG without breaking the system. Here's my idea;
Once per session, a player can call for a splash page. They must descibe an appropriately dramatic pose and/or action and play one stone (and one stone only). This stone comes from their energy reserve and counts as one of their two actions for the panel. Any other players who want to be in the splash page can do the same thing and spend a stone. Players that are unconscious or not in the scene can not be part of the splash page.
Next, the GM adds up all the stones played by those who are in the splash page and awards each player who played a stone a number of free stones from the general pool equal to the total number of stones played. So if three players were involved in the splash page, they each get 3 free stones. These stones must be used on their next panel as a continuation of the action/pose.
Only one splash page can be called per session. Not one per player, one in total.
Alternatively, once a player has called for a splash page, the GM can call for a double spread and allow his villains to become part of the splash page. In this case, the villains each put in one stone (and one stone only) and for every stone put in, they get that many free just like with a normal splash page. The players construct their splash page as normal.
Thought it might be something interesting to try out.
