DESCRIPTION:
----------------
Steve Gerard was a perfectly healthy boy when he was born. Except those eyes.
Since birth Steven's eyes were perfectly black. No whites, no irises, just unrelenting midnight seeming to spring from his head. Still, he had loving parents, and all through his childhood, besides the teasing or horrified looks he'd recieve from adults and children everything seemed fine other than the eyes... He did have a little trouble getting on with other children, but maybe because he seemed content on his own. He liked his imaginary friends more than most kids did, and he seemed to have a lot of them.
As Steven grew older and mutants became more high profile, his parents began to suspect what he was. When he was 14 and his powers began to surface, he kept them from everyone... as far as anyone knew, he was a powerless mutant, his only "gift" being the black eyes.
Steven sees into another dimension, one that he describes as the Realm of Shadows. It is composed primarily of, you guessed it, shadow like material, and even living shadows (some of them were the imaginary friends). While he could always see into it, when his true powers began to surface he gained the ability to manipulate it, and travel through it. He can summon solid columns of the shadow like material to hit enemies with move through the Shadow Realm at great speed and rematerialize in our dimension (Teleportation - Shadow Slide as he calls it) and form weapons out of the shadow material.
Shortly after the Sentinel program's first run, Steven knew he'd have to leave his parents, who still knew nothing of his real powers. He also knew that his communication with the shadows was slowly making him partially insane, as he feels impulses and urges he can't explain quite frequently.
Steven went out on the road, looking for someone who could help him, knowing he wasn't likely to find any. After a few weeks he stood on the side of a desert highway in Arizona and watched a pair of Sentinels approaching him on the horizon. Resigned to going down fighting, he summoned a shadow katana and stared, determined at the two robots.
However, they simply approached, hovered for a few seconds, turned, and left. Steven didn't know what to make of it, but seeing no other real choice, simply soldiered on. It was at a hotel in Phoenix that an extraction team came for him. Due to a lack of real combat training he wasn't able to put up much of a fight. When he came to he found himself in a force-field cell in a government structure.
After Weapon X's first two missions and the Phalanx attack, Trace spent a lot of time alone, away from his teammates, as he often felt somewhat sick and more or less unable to be very good company. As it turns out, his mutations aren't done with him yet, and his powers as well as his personality have changed these past few weeks. First of all, Trace can not only see into the Shadowlands now, but he can actually use his teleportation to enter them. Many creatures there, while wary of him, allow him to pass by without troubling him. On one of his first trips there he met Quinn, a telepathic and superintelligent bird of prey. In addition to this, Trace's Shadowswords and Shadowblast no longer seem to require him to expend any real effort whatsoever--he can summon his weapons as easily as he can blink.
In addition, although Trace hasn't discovered this for himself, he no longer needs to breathe or eat. It's uncertain what all this is leading to--the suspicion Trace has is that he is slowly becoming more of a human conduit to the Shadowlands... this bothers him less than you might expect, but then again, he is a bit unstable.
Then again, this is just the same character concept, but completely revamped stats.. oh well. [Chuckle]
