First off- KISS* the Mechwarrior. In original its complicated so much, that its almost impossible to comprehand it with human brain. This is MURPG- if you want to convert it here, then KISS it, no other way around. One more time- Its MURPG, its supposed to be simple! If it isnt- it has no place here!
And as for Alpha strike... I have no idea what it is, but judging from what you said, its just multiplying the attack. Dont tell me you dont know how it works in MURPG? Well, there's that thing like combining effort.
"If two people have strenght of 3, then if they combine their efforts and put all stones into strenght, they can carry something with weight of 4".
Look at D&R chart- following AN is always twice as good as previous one (so 5 is twice as good as 4 and stuff. Doesnt apply to everything though). Now if you have 9 x 10 stones, it combines with each other by the same rule:
2 x 10 stones gives 11. So we get 4 x 11. Now 2 x 11 makes 12, and two 12 makes 13 (the ninth one is wasted. what a shame).
Does this makes more sense?
* - Keep It Simple [KISS]

An Alpha Strike is when a mech fires every weapon it has at once, it's massive damage but usually causes the mech to shutdown from overheating, or come dangerously close to it. From my mech piloting experience, most mechs fire their weapons in clusters ranging from a single pod of missiles to 3-4 lasers mounted to one side of the mech per salvo. Alpha Strike is the big red " do not push" button that leaves nothing but a crater under your targeting reticle after the dust clears. It's the kinda thing that even in a game requires you to grunt Tim Allen style when you do it. Damn, I wanna play Mechwarrior 4 now ;-; btw, good idea with the combined effort thing. I didn't really think to apply that to dmg, but it would work. Edit: This is dramatization, real effect may vary per user

You can build hundred tonner mechs with like 4-5 lrm 20's *each shot is a salvo of 20 missiles. so you get like 80-100 missiles flying into the target pretty much leaves a crater.
Not to mention the thing that i love most about murpg is it's diceless... as far as i'm concerned a little added complexity is hardly a worry it's already simple enough for a 4 year old to grasp surely adding in a little bit of complexity to take into account the way mech warrior runs isn't a problem.

Well yea... long range and I'll be looking for a wall to hide behind @_@;. I have a thing for ballistics so I'd end up with Gauss Rifles instead :\. You can whine about ammo, but I usually carry enough to mop up 5-6 mechs and ER Med Lasers to spare if it comes down to it. I have a hard time compensating for the PPCs slow movement, so yea... Gauss Rifle.
