What if? (The heroes in marvel aged)

After coming up with the 1970 idea, I got to wondering what it would have been if the characters had aged, but I know this has came up before. Right now, I’m doing my own take of it. Does anyone remember The Guardian? He was a powered armor that had been massively reproduced. So, they were called by their unit names instead of it being just one superhero.

Now, what if they brought this same concept to other characters like The Green Goblin? I could see marvel’s police force issuing this kind of equipment to the officers. Well, maybe use that type for air support, and beefing up their ground with some kind of armor as well.

Of course, The Avengers Initiative, would be the National Guard of super heroes. They are on call all the time, but probably lead their regular lives until then. Of course, there is the monthly meeting, and trainings (The Avengers Reserve teams). The rest of the month, the heroes are in their cities living life as normal. Naturally, there are the full time avengers.

Other Private teams like The X-Men probably still exist, but as outlaws. The registration act is still in place, but the people who don’t register are considered “extremist” and are given a nice smear campaign by the press. I believed that the M-Day mojo would have been lifted by now.

Another idea crossed my mind, like a superhero version of the Red Cross. Where super powered beings help in natural disasters, and attacks like World War Hulk. Though, they try not to get involved in the combat, so they can focus on damage control. They are the “medics” of the super hero world if you will.

Now, I’m thinking this plot could be done in the present day, and the Event that caused the Registration act happened maybe some time in the eighties. By now, it would be in full swing. Some heroes would be retired by now (naturally), but characters like Wolverine would still be active adventurers. Naturally, things like the Ghost Rider would be around, but the mantel has probably been passed.

Things that had happened, or could happen?

Rise of the Machines: I donno, kind of like a terminator plot involving Ultron, and the Sentinels. Maybe they have a machine nation somewhere.

War of the Gods: If humanity became this powerful, I could see a war on Asgard, and people like Thor leaving Midgar.

The Symbiote invasion: This did happen, and it would give an excuse to have other symbiote characters or NPC’s

Mutant High was formed around the same basic premise, except that the other heroes never existed outside of the X-Men mythos. Basically, it's a cool concept that would be good when fleshed out more. Maybe try to figure where certain heroes would lie based on how the changing past impacts them.

For example, Xavier has died and his legacy is being continued by one of his first students. Ideally, one would think Scott Summers, but why not try something different. Maybe Worthington took his spot and uses his funds to thrust Mutants into the political light as an oppressed minority, then showboats his company's providing aid to mutants as a kind of "choose us because we're so philanthropic." Or maybe Wolverine took over and is going on a more guerilla front with the X-Men, having them act much more like the Morlocks than they normally do. Why such a difference? By the time Wolverine entered the picture as one of the X-Men (1975), Xavier's X-Men had been around for over ten years (first published in 1963), the original message could have easily been obscured, especially if something happened to Xavier in that time (very likely, the political activist that he is).

Well, we've seen the Mutants go in two seperate directoions before. So, having one group preserving the dream, and then another group like you mentioned Wolverine being in would be a good idea. Maybe Wolverine actually took the mantle of leader for the morlocks, the next gen X-Men are still doign things like Xavier would.

I could really see the morlocks being the major Anti Reg people. If Wolverine sided with them he could really use them as an army. Not to mention every other anti reg hero wanting to be in this kind of militia. It's a great idea when you think about it. I mean, they'd know the sewers inside, and out.

Who else has an idea about any of the other groups?

I've had a couple of ideas, but mainly just the abstract idea. Like what if The Hulk was still on planet Hulk. If and when he returned he'd have his white beard like Meastro. He could actually come back as Meastro. I just like the character

I put some though into The Avengers group with the idea above, but I've put very little thought into the actual characters. I'm guessing Steve would either have been assasinated, or be really old, and training people. Thor would probably be about the same as always. Tony would sitll be around, but someone else would be Iron Man.

We could evey use pre-existing character if we wanted too, like the Avengers cartoon with the kids. I'd rather stray away from the exact scenerio, but it's an idea for characters. What about Characters like American Dream, and that gang?

I still like the Rise of the Machines idea. Ultron, Mastermold, swarms of sentinels of varied kinds, Nimrod. Hell, you can even throw in terminators and make it even more interesting having Ultron be the true face of skynet. When I thought about creating a game like this a while ago, I was thinking about that episode of Wolverine and the X-men where the sentinels whole reason for capturing mutants and not eliminating them on site was so that they can learn and adapt mutant powers. Add terminators to the mix and you have super powered terminators which is scary, not to mention just dealing with Nimrod.

The Game Ideas board is, more or less, here to flesh out gaming worlds that aren't within the mainstream continuity, so take advantage. You're unlikely to get many players here, though, as people don't really come here looking for new games.
