While I'm at it, I'll go ahead and reproduce my original character, Edge, from the X-Wars mailing list a few years back. I did manage to convert him to the MURPG system to my satisfaction (including his growth since then), although I had to invent a few variations on powers....
<<EDIT: I'm altering his Suppress Psionics power, as I think cutting the original power's +9 down to a +4 is still a little high... plus this gives me stones to allocate toward the fact that he's a natural leader.>>

DESCRIPTION
Brandon was your normal, everyday kid... going to school, somewhat athletic, bright enough to play chess but not so much as to get mercilessly picked on. But all that soon changed. Unlike some other developing mutations, Brandon's was gradual. Living in a large city, he frequently passed hundreds, if not thousands of people in the course of a week. However, he soon started noticing that on occasion, he'd pass someone and get a strange sensation in his head... and that, more and more often, when he did, that person would look back his way.
It soon got to the point where he could immediately identify these people who he sensed, even in a crowd... and where these people could immediately identify him too. The reactions of these people were never good... sometimes he'd just get odd, nonsensical threatenings from them to "get outta here", and sometimes they'd start angrily heading his way--which would send him running.
He soon started to notice that it wasn't a random detection... it was *specific* people that set off his sensors. And these people were becoming more and more unfriendly, eventually attacking him whenever he ran across them.
Then came the day--a supervillain had appeared in town, a rarity, and Brandon happened to be walking by the scene of the bank robbery as it was in progress. The man wore a mask, and was obviously a telekinetic--he laughed as the police officer's bullets bounced off his shield, and he started levitating the money and himself to safety... until suddenly he and the money fell flat on his face. He began looking around wildly, and his eyes quickly locked on Brandon's. Brandon knew that somehow, he had been the cause of this. And so did the villain. The police hauled him off in cuffs, but not before he gave a hateful look Brandon's way--and a muttered, "I'll kill you!". Brandon quickly left the scene and went home.
It was less than an hour later, home alone, when he heard a whistling. Suddenly, a car crashed through his roof! Another whistling sound sent Brandon outside... and in the distance, high in the air, far enough away that he couldn't "sense" him, floated the villain, casually lifting up cars telekinetically and tossing them spot-on at Brandon's house. Panic overtook Brandon. He knew this wasn't going to stop... and that neither he nor his family was safe. So he started running. Out of his neighborhood. Out of his city.
Life on the streets wasn't kind to him, especially when the occasional psi passed by and chased him down. It didn't take long for Brandon to find out who these people were, what he was inadvertantly doing to them, and why they hated it. One man was in the middle of transferring a large sum of money to a guy when Brandon walked by... as soon as he did, the man blinked several times, looked at his "associate" in horror, and then ran off. The would-be recipient of the money looked Brandon's way and took off after him.
Eventually Brandon made his way out into the backwoods, getting lost. He would have died out there if an older man hadn't run into him. He was a survivalist, and he lived out in the middle of nowhere with his wife and daughter. He took Brandon in, nursed him back to health, and soon got the story on what was going on. The next few years were spent on Brandon's training--anything and everything the man (an ex-Marine) could show him. And he made Brandon realize that he was persecuted by psis not just because they hated him... but because their powers didn't work on him. Because *they* feared *him*.
After those years, Brandon returned home. Along the way, he did encounter a psi--one who remembered him and attacked. Brandon gave the man a beating he wouldn't soon forget, and told him to spread the word that it was open season on psis. Brandon made it a goal of finding every psi in the city--and either driving them out, smashing any illicit activities they were involved with, or leaving them with a stern warning not to get involved in any.
After college, he was approached by a man who represented a secret government organization that used mutants for a number of tasks... his skills, apparently, were just what they needed to give the covert branch of the agency telepathic shielding... a special "edge." Brandon, deciding that this could be his calling, joined.
Brandon's last couple of years with the agency have been productive, and he has grown a lot. His arrogance has been tempered, even if his distrust of psis (including some who work for the agency) hasn't. Where he was a loner, he's now discovered that his confidence, and sheer dogged persistance (along with good training and a natural talent for working with other's powers) has made him quite a leader. His is currently satisfied with his job, despite the issues he has with it, and does his best for his team--particularly when psis get thrown into the mix.
