Description
When Leonard was born, his little body was threaded with bulging, unnatural blood vessels in black, blue and red. His skin was sickly and pallid, and his eyes were a deep bloodshot red. Even fresh from the womb, he seemed dirty, covered in thin rust-colored layer of some unidentifiable funk.
Had his parents been normal people like you or me, they would have been horrified. Had Leonard been born in a normal hospital, he would have been put in an intensive care unit immediately. However, to Leonard's parents, a pair of small-town cultists, the early expression of his mutant genes was a sign that their god had favored them.
Growing up was not easy for Leonard. Other children at school shunned him. Even the girls he liked called him a dirty monster. It wasn't Leonard's fault really; the rusty grime that his overactive biology produced was being made constantly. He took (and still takes) four showers a day in an attempt to be rid of it, but it came back within an hour, getting through his clothing and making him look constantly filthy.
His parents loved him greatly, in their way. One time he fell out of a tree and broke his arm, but it healed before he could find anyone to tell them about it. They said that it, and his unnatural strength, meant that he was the Vessel of God, the Ever-flowing Cup of Life, and things like that. They said that when the time was right, they would take him to meet God, and that he wouldn't have to worry any more. Leonard looked forward to that day.
When he turned 14, the cult elders decided the time was right. They took him to a dilapidated barn that functioned as the cult's ritual space and mystically bound him within an enchanted symbol, where they attempted to summon their god. Surely God would desire to possess such a fine and strong young boy, the cultists reasoned, to lead them to victory. They were right.
However, the X-Men interrupted the ritual before it was complete. All the cult's god had a chance to do was brush Leonard's mind once, lightly. Leonard was revolted as he saw the plans the god had, a god who was itself a dimension of pure evil, and wanted to bore a hole into our dimension and consume it piece by piece.
In an instant, Leonard's latent powers were triggered. He grew into a 20' bloated muscled monstrosity, and the terrible vein-like things all over his body sprang out and attacked anyone within reach. When he was defeated, the X-Men had to dig him out of the mound of sloughed-off flesh he left behind when he reverted to normal size.
He currently lives at the Xavier Institute. He has learned to control his powers. His parents (along with the rest of the cult) are in jail, and while he doesn't forgive them for what they did, he still misses them.
Forgive the choppy description. I'm kind of in a hurry here.
