OOC: Yes, I agree the stats are a bit excessive. Superman misses.
With DEX: 20 they each would need a 7 to hit Superman's 15 OV, but as a team attack they only need 4.
Villain #1 [dice=10][dice=10] Grappled and 9 Damage Villain #2 [dice=10][dice=10] Grappled and 13 Damage Villain #3 [dice=10][dice=10] Grappled and 9 Damage
Superman's BODY is reduced to 0.BLACKOUT! Superman feels a wave of nausea and a fierce pounding hammering into his head. Pained, he sees three apparitions: ghostly figures dressed not in earthly clothes but in the recognizable accouterments of his home world, Krypton. The apparitions' pallid skin glows with a greenish tinge around the loose flesh which dangles from the figures' bony forms. The trio scuffles toward Superman, and in a garbled unison the images of Zod, Zaora, and Quex-Ul taunt him: "Yet another series of murders upon your bloodied hands, Superman? Was it not enough you killed us mercilessly, dooming us to painful deaths on a desolate alien world?"General Zod raises a bony finger in Kal-El's direction and, through rotted, blackened teeth, says, "Who were you to judge our actions, although they led to others' deaths? See now the future, son of Krypton, for it is you who shall cause the deaths of your own millions!"With a wave of one decrepit hand, Zod transforms the crystal night embracing Metropolis into a vision of barren wasteland. It seems now a stark cityscape barren of life, where buildings stand in an empty graveyard. The trio then turns back toward Superman, their faces a bubbling turmoil of melted green flesh, their words a cacophonous jeer. "You live the insidious lie, Kryptonian. You can never truly belong on this petty planet. Yours is the ultimate isolation; you are a stranger in any land. And to what purpose, Man of Steel? To what purpose...?"With their final words echoing painfully in his ears, the images of Zod, Zaora and Quex-Ul fade away. The wrenching grasp leaves Superman's insides as the tension drifts from his muddled head. From what seems a million miles away, he hears a familiar voice calling his name. "Superman?" Jimmy says, wiping a slight trail of blood from his beaten and bruised mouth. "Superman, are you okay?"OOC: I'm accepting the last Desperation Recovery Check you rolled here. (It's been an hour since your last Desperation Recovery check.) So your current stats are.

"unnnh. Jimmy?" groans Superman, as he raises his head. "What? Where are...?" he instantly sits up and starts scanning about with all of his super senses, trying to find some sign of the super goons who so easily flattened him!
ACTIONS:
Telescopic, Thermal, Ultra visions, Super and Extended/Directional hearing, heck even Analaytical smell, tracking scent, will try 'em all.
If it's less than an hour or so his Thermal vision might show up their heat trail, especially if they used rockets or jet boots to fly with.

Jimmy helps Superman to his feet. Once standing, the Man of Steel uses his Telescopic vision to look five miles straight up into the night sky. Applying Thermal Vision to his view, Clark spots faint heat trails leading back toward the northwest section of New Troy, where the auto yard is.
Jimmy is seriously roughed up, but he says he's going to the Daily Planet to drop off his pictures.

"Sorry about this Jimmy. I suspect they attacked you to get at me." said Superman. "They took me by surprise, but I have to admit I felt clumsy and underpowered against them - never seen the like before. I might have to readjust my usual tactics. As for you, I'd suggest lying low and staying in company. Let Maggie Sawyer at the SCU know what happened, and tell her I'm investigating."
With a nod to his friend he took off to investigate the assailants possible location, using thermal vision and every super sense he had to avoid being surprised.
ACTIONS:
Head off to follow the trail and keep all super senses peeled. Aside from the ridiculous kicking the dice handed out Superman was clearly outgunned in the last encounter. It'll need different tactics - probably separating them - if he's to make a dent in their hides.
Of course, actually hitting and not rolling below 5 all the time will help too.

"Lie low? Maggie Sawyer? Boy, Superman, I'll bet Mr. White will give me a staff job right now with what I got here tonight! It could really be a boost to my career if I turn in these shots early enough for the first edition. Wait'll I get back and tell Mr. Kent!" Jimmy is quite insistent on going to the Daily Planet. After Superman heads off to follow the trail, Jimmy starts to walk to the Planet building in spite of his injuries. Expanding his super senses, the Man of Steel again detects sirens and flashing lights, now concentrated in the city's bay area. The villains' trail ends back at the auto junkyard, but they are nowhere in sight. Body: 18 Mind: 15 Spirit: 10 Hero Points: 53

OOC By the way, from Thursday this week my schedule eases some. If you want me to run a DC Heroes game (I can run one of the published adventures or a free form thing) or have a go at running BASH or ICONS (waiting for Icons book in post at this time) I'll see if more want to join in.[rand=1812604181468486804524232819676399623877821490168608641446218825877]

Please let me know if ICONS is worth my attention after you get it. Thanks!] [FYI: I have the Green Arrow/Black Canary match-play adventure that we can play if this game ever finishes. Sorry for my infrequent posts here. I'm juggling time for a lot of games.]

OOC few things - ICONS has a completely random character generation which can be fun (not to mention quick to turn out characters). The game operates on a scale of 1-10, with 3 being average human, 10 being Cosmic think Silver Surfer, Thor, Hulk etc. Dice are rolled (a D6 for positive, a d6 for negative and one subtracted from the other to get a a result of -5 to +5) then add relevant ability, power etc, subtract difficulty (from that 1-10 scale, so a cosmic level difficulty would be 10). A score of 0 or more indicates some measure of success.
That's the basics anyway, as I understand it. Have to read the rest. Had it in PDF for years but not till recently got it in dead tree. Feels like Marvel FASERIP.
BASH I still have to read, but that seems easy enough. Need to read up on both to be able to GM, but neither looks hard to learn. Will let you know on ICONS after I've read it. There are plenty of adventures for it and ongoing support from Steve Kenson, whose just bought the rights back (to his own game).SUPERMANSuperman frowns, then starts moving cars about to see if there's some hidden entrance to a base or tunnel underneath all this junk. He's concerned that several unknown individuals have the power to so comprehensively take him apart as there would no one on Earth with the power to stop them! As much as he hated to admit it, were he ever mind controlled by the likes of Braniac it would take the most of the Justice League to slow him down. In fact, he could think of only Batman who would have a chance, thanks to that sliver of Kryptonite he carried - with Supermans blessing. ACTIONS: Look for an entrance to a base or a tunnel of some kind. use X Ray vision, even though the dice will probably reveal that Superman is wasting his time. [dice=10][dice=10] OOC *swoon* highest roll I can remember... for a while? Ever? So glad I saved it for an out of combat situation that probably makes no difference whatsoever... LOL
Superman scans the auto yard with his X-Ray vision, confirming that there isn't a secret lair hiding just below some pile of rusty Volkswagens.
He has been here a while and no one has come to this site, not even a patrol car to investigate the scene of Superman's earlier battle. Did Clark make the right decision in coming back here? Or should he have flown the injured Jimmy Olsen to the Daily Planet... or a hospital?

SUPERMAN
OOC thanks for the nudge...
Superman shook his head. What was he thinking? He needed to make sure Jimmy was alright! Of course, Superman was still worried that three beings of unimaginable power were still out there, and that they could conceivably destroy the world unless he stopped them was something he feared, but until that moment happened...
He had a duty to his friends, the people of Metropolis and the world. He was still Superman no matter how much his pride told him he should seek a rematch with the mysterious beings who'd recently trounced him! With a last look look about he took to the sky, using the vast repertoire of his senses to find and catch up with Jimmy Olsen!
ACTIONS:
Using all senses and Flight he'll try to find Jimmy! If scouring the streets at super speed and with telescopic/thermal/x ray vision and flying around doesn't help (he presumes Jimmy hailed a cab) he'll head for the Planet and look there...

As Superman flies southeast toward the Daily Planet, his super senses discover a disturbance in the city's bay area. Amid the many small brownstones and lofty high-rises he sees nearly four dozen policemen. Their squad cars are strategically blocking the entrance road to Metropolis' water processing plant.
Red and blue flashing lights play spasmodically along the expanse of chain-link fence which encloses the plant's grounds.

'It never rains but it pours...' thought Superman. With a rueful look towards the Daily Planet he peeled off and sped towards the water processing plant.

While most of Metropolis' finest presently stand cautious guard along the plant's perimeter, a noticeable number stands around an unmarked car stationed directly outside the plant's main gate. The officers surrounding this car take notice of Superman's arrival and begin to clear him a path; one officer leans into the car and mumbles something to its occupants. As Superman nears the main gate, the silhouette of a shapely female figure exits the driver's seat of the car; as the woman turns to face the Man of Steel, he catches the slightest glimpse of weariness upon the face of Capt. Maggie Sawyer. But her features quickly return to form a time-induced professional mask, hiding what he knows to be the sensitive woman beneath it. "So, Superman," Maggie says sarcastically, "what brings you out on this fine summer night. Surely it can't be the dead bodies we have inside here...." Body: 18 Mind: 15 Spirit: 10 Hero Points: 53

SUPERMAN
Superman gives a pained smile - pained because his face is sore from the beating he'd taken - and glances to where Maggie was gesturing. "Same thing as you Maggie. Trouble. I've had more than my fill tonight. I was hoping to check in that Jimmy got back to the Planet alright and call it a day... but no rest from the wicked..." he sighed.
With a grim look on his face he turns and scans the building where the bodies are. He will use every superhuman sense at his disposal and his own keen mind, plus his (OOC Recalled) medical knowledge from speed reading medical texts to determine the cause of death and the approximate time of death. If he needs to, he'll get closer.
ACTIONS:
Go through the full range of senses to determine what happened. X-Ray, Microscopic, Thermal, Intelligence 11, Recall 20, Sharp Eye

[Note: Superman stats in this adventure do not include Sharp Eye.]
Superman uses his Telescopic and X-Ray Vision Powers on the plant.
X-Ray Vision [dice=10][dice=10] = 13
There are five dead bodies inside the plant, all of them in or around the main control center for the plant's water filtration and distribution to the city. Four lie crumpled against the center's glass entryway. A fifth body sits casually against the control panel wall; small rivulets of dried blood fall from each ear, a scene repeated from the body's nose and mouth.
"Here's what we can figure so far," Maggie begins, "Sometime after ten o'clock we're notified of an emergency here at the plant. Once we show up, the whole place is buzzing with alarms and we find this guy we have in the car stumbling around dumbstruck outside the gates. He hasn't told us much--he's still in shock--but our reconnaissance team has seen several plant employees inside the building, apparently dead."
"We haven't gone in yet, but now that you're here, maybe you can help us out."
Superman enters the facility. The main control complex for Metropolis' water processing plant runs smoothly and silently, the quiet hum of the area disturbed only occasionally by intermittent beeps and clicks of automated systems checking and double-checking themselves. The vast array of computer panels along a far wall seem to be operating perfectly, with no discernible alteration to programming.
The floor of the complex is littered with human bodies. Superman examines the four employees' bodies for any unusual marks or items.
Intelligence (Unskilled Detective) [dice=10][dice=10] = 19
Fatal, bloodless holes penetrate the four workers' foreheads and chest areas.
Microscopic Vision [dice=10][dice=10] = 17
Microscopic vision shows that the wounds were cauterized by use of intense heat.
Superman now examines the fifth body.
Intelligence (Unskilled Detective) [dice=10][dice=10] = 6 [FAIL]
X-Ray Vision [dice=10][dice=10] = 13
Examining the fifth body with X-Ray vision, Superman notices a small, metallic device implanted within the brain.
Microscopic Vision [dice=10][dice=10] = 13
Microscopic Vision reveals that the device was created from parts manufactured by LexCorp!
