Anyone else involved with this group? I just attended my first meeting, and I have to say, I like it. The people are awesome, the stuff going on is really interesting, and the whole idea is just great.
Starting to hammer out my persona, but finding information on the Byzantine Empire can be a real pain....

Sounds like Black Sam had an experience similar to my own. The group I belonged to had some cool people, but it also had some serious freaks (and by this, I mean people who lived their "persona" out in the real world, and didn't seem to understand why others weren't interested in doing the same). Oddly, it wasn't the freaks that resulted in the whole thing falling apart.

It depends on your local group or groups. Some are welcoming and great people, others are elitist jerks. My first experiences were awesome, but they quickly soured. I am now more of a ren faire nerd, at least locally it is the more laid back group.

Lol.
And thanks for the warnings.....I think. But this group seems really great, and they were really happy to see new faces in the group. Specifically because in the past couple of years, they've only picked up 1 or two members a year. This year, they've got like 6 or 8 potential new members, so that's good.
I'm real eager to dive in, and see what all I can learn. The only thing is, there are only so many hours in a day. I mean, I already want to learn archery, fencing, probably heavy weapons, metalworking, maybe leatherworking, and who knows what else.
If anyone's got any tips, I'm willing to listen.....
Oh, and if anyone knows where I can find some information on the Byzantines, that'd be great to....

I'm just going to leave this here: Furries really made it on the geek list? I thought they were just a bunch of people running around in animal costume’s having sex with each other. In my experience there’s a bit of a difference between a geek thing, and a fetish. Of course there can be geek fantasies like making your girlfriend dress and an alien or something, but wouldn't that just get body paint everywhere? Not that there's anything wrong with body painting at parties with chicks involved, I'm getting side tracked. On a site note from that I seen on 1000 ways to die that a real live bear attacked one of these furbert orgies. I think it killed like two people or something. I do love to write, and that is kind of a geek think I guess. I’m a sucker for literature, and I don’t care who knows it. Fan fic? Well Fanfic is exactly what goes on the MURPG board, and when things settle down for me I would love to roleplay some more here. Erotic fan fiction where you include yourself in the storyline? Most guys couldn’t get laid by the chicks in the show anyways. Very nerdy indeed.

I don't think anything that they claim happened on 1000 Ways to Die has ever actually happened anywhere, ever. If they claimed that people breathe air, I wouldn't believe it.

Some of them I know to be at least based on the truth. Like the alcahol enima, the sword swallower who tried and umberella, and the guy who got into the hornets nest. I've read stories about bears attacking campers, and a furbert orgy doesn't sound far fetched. However I can't find a google reference
