I only just heard about it last week, but it looked interesting. What's it have over previous versions? I haven't played it since III, I think...

Well I still play III, and with V, coming out IV will likely get cheaper so yes I am looking forward to it. As you may have guessed I am a pretty stingy gamer so I don't think I will pick it up right away, but as I have enjoyed every Civ game I have played I may get it eventually.

I'm getting it as soon as it comes out. I love the Civ series... I've only played IV (and I on an emulator, just to experience it), but V should be awesome! Sam: Over previous versions, it has better graphics (of course), a smoother, more realistic tech tree, buildings that you really have to consider building (for instance, in IV jails simply made your War Weariness go down. Now they also generally decrease happiness... so it is worth it?)... not to mention the two biggest changes: Units no longer stack on tiles (with the exception of Workers and Settlers) and there's a hexagonal grid instead of square tiles. Units no longer stacking means there will be greater strategy in war. Before, if you had a pikeman and a crossbowman in one square together they were strong vs. everything until muskets came out... now, you'd better hope that pikeman is in front, or an enemy knight will kill the crossbows! Of course, the Crossbows can fire at him from two squares away... So yeah.

Units now have range.... Ships can attack land units and Artillery can attack naval units Bows Catapults etc... Also there no more Transports units HURRAY they take to much time to build, now units can Embark once you get the proper TECH. And other Features as leek listed ESPECIALLY the GRAPHICS are way TOP NOTCH

RAGGGH! I want this game!
No religions apparently....meh, I won't miss them, they never really did anything significant. Yeah, they created more culture, and you could use them to get more cash with the right improvements, but it also screwed with your diplomacy a ton. While it would be nice to see them again, I'm not to broken up. Although I will miss spreading my religion and crippling others, I'll admit....
Are there corporations? Those were kind of neat. Nothing better than destroying your opponents economy by selling rice.
It looks pretty awesome, and a lot more user friendly than some of the others were, which is a nice change. I just hope my computer can handle it and not blow up.

Not really a full description....
Civilization. A turn based strategy game that lets you lead an empire through history, and lets you decide what kind of country you want, and how you want to win. It's a pretty in depth game, and can be overwhelming, not to mention difficult(freakin Beyond the Sword. Stupid computer......who says smart AI's a good thing...)

Shenron, it is awesome, but it is a little micro managy and thus not for everyone's tastes. If you are interested in the idea, but don't feel like shelling out full price check out Civ IV on Steam or Amazon. It is a fantastic game that is now quite a bit cheaper thanks to the new game being out.

I loved Civ back in the day.. not sure how long it's been since I played, or even which version. I think it was probably II.
I should probably stay away from IV and V, though. It's easy to get sucked in. It's one of those games where you think "Hey, it's been about an hour, I should probably do something else," but when you actually look at the clock it's like 5am.

Heh, there's a reason Civ IV included a clock, for just those situations.
Although, that sort of thing makes for a good story....
"Hey man, why are you so tired?" "Well, I was invading Russia, then Spain got ticked off and sent a bunch of cavalry, so I had to deal with that, and then Rome started getting annoying, then I had a slave revolt, and all the while trying to spread Hinduism to America."

"Well, I was invading Russia, then Spain got ticked off and sent a bunch of cavalry, so I had to deal with that, and then Rome started getting annoying, then I had a slave revolt, and all the while trying to spread Hinduism to America." That could be the best sum up of Civ I have ever read ;D
