Eh, that doesn't mean anything. Comic book death is almost as bad as Dragon Ball Z death. In the Secret Invasion they brought back people, and I even thought they were going to really bring back Captain Marvel for a little bit until he was revealed to be a Skrull himself.
Captain America was killed, and then came back. So, a death in comic books aren't going to make me go all crazy. Most likely they'll bring back the series in a few years, if it takes that long.
As far as cancelling the series go, I've seen the same kind of hype whenever they came out with the god awful heroes reborn. I has "The last issue" of Captain America.
Super heroes retire more times than Legendary Wrestler Terry Funk. Guys wearing tight's don't retire. They just come back wearing different tights for a little bit, and they they change back to their old ones.

F-Bomb pretty much said everything I could have on that matter. It's meaningless. Stupid, but meaningless.

Fans are going to protest his death if/when it happens, and he'll come back.

No, they shouldn't have killed any of them. It's pointless no matter how you slice it.
Note to comic book authors: Stop killing your characters. All it does is annoy your fans. We don't buy it, we never have, enough already. It's cheap, stupid, and lazy.
Quit it.

Meh . . . I wonder, how many marvel heroes have come back from the dead.

Adding to the stupid is the idea of a leaked death. The whole point is shock value, so the idea of it leaking is stupid. The other alternative is a heroic death that sends the character off in a way people can accept, except we've seen dozens of those so "dying to save the world" because I'M THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN STOP HER is just as dumb as a sniper.

The purpose of the death isn't shock value though. It's to sell comic books. Just like with every other famous comic book "death" that everybody knew was coming, the idea is to get a spike in sales.

It's working too. F4 is the number one searched item on Yahoo right now.

Marvel Studios had to do it because the actor is playing Captain America now. This is also why Seabiscuit had to die before Tobey McGuire could be Spider-Man.

Look, I haven’t read F4 monthly since McDuffie was replaced with Millar immediately after McDuffie repaired all the damage Millar caused to the characters in Civil War but…
…I have read enough of Hickman’s stuff (uncluding some great F4 trades) to give him the benefit of the doubt* and trust that this is a quality story as opposed to just being a stunt (or at least in addition to being a stunt)…
…even if we all know Johnny will be back within a year or two.
*At the very least he deseves credit for being the first writer to make me care about Val Richards.

Dude. It's a blatant ploy. To give ANY comic book author the benefit of the doubt about this is like hoping that there won't be any clouds in the sky for the rest of your life.
