Yes. The first thing I learned in Creative Writing 101 is that your integrity is yours to protect. No publisher can *make* you write anything. You can take a principled stand. I get that you like this guy. But he's just as responsible for this crap as Marvel is. Quitting in a huff really only works it you’re Alan Moore (and even then you have a lot of people saying “That’s great but when are you going to write Superman again?”). When JMS – who was a MUCH bigger name than Hickman is now – did it he lost most of the fans that were still on his side. Then again, so many of JMS’ runs end with him taking “principled stands” that it’s a wonder anyone will still hire him.

I didn't say it was easy to do. I said you can do it. I walked away from a promising job with the Detroit News because of what I refused to write (or rather, what I wouldn't exclude from what I wrote).
My family is undoubtedly much poorer for my decision, but in the long run, I wouldn't trade my peace of mind for a bigger paycheck, then or now.

I have an enormous amount of respect for Dwayne McDuffie’s openness regarding the editorial influence on his JLA run. Unfortunately it’s that same openness that got him fired and I haven’t seen his name on a comic since. (Luckily I doubt he’s shedding any tears as he cashes his Ben 10 checks).
Conversely I don’t harbor any ill will to any Spider-Man creator (except Joe Q) who wrote post-BND/OMD stories. I’d probably jump at the chance to write Spider-Man even though the character is unrecognizable from “my” Spider-Man.
It’s a wonder that anyone ever tells a story worth reading these days. Let’s face it, comics aren’t that different than music in that the only way to make it big is to sell out.
(And that they keep making the same mistakes in regards to digital media but that’s a whole other topic)
Additional thought on the movie issue:
Doesn’t Fox have the rights to the F4 moves for the foreseeable future? Why would Disney WANT Marvel to line up their comics with the movie? It’d make more sense to bring back the “New Fantastic Four” concept but with Iron Man instead of Ghost Rider. (Again, I think HT will be back long before that so it’s a non-issue and I thought some levity was called for)

I know this is complete unfeasible, but imagine, for a moment, if you will, Edward Norton, Nicholas Cage, Tobey Maguire, and Hugh Jackman wearing slick versions of these uniforms. I'll admit I'd be down for this.

Ghost Rider. I don't recall having ever seen that cover before, but back in the day Spidey, Hulk, Wolvie, and GR filled in as the Fantastic Four for a while. I have the issue somewhere, but I can't remember the particulars behind it.
As much as I think they make a lame FF, the four of them did make a pretty awesome team. Just not a Fantastic Four team.

No, it's Ghost Rider. I think that would be a horrible group for the Fantastic Four too, lol. I mean, Spirder-Man's pretty smart, but he's no Reed Richards. The Hulk is a horrible idea for any team. Wolverine is too unreliable to be on any team, but he's in every damn thing. Then you have ghost rider who's cool and all, but I don't see him in all the sci-fi adventures that the Fantastic Four do.
There have been several incarnations of the Fantastic Four, but that one would be the worst by far.

That was before Wolverine was in everything. In fact Wolverine rarely appeared in much of anything other than X-titles and his dozens of solo comics. I mean, he did some appearances; after Spider-Man he was probably the second biggest "guest star" in the various comics even back then (maybe 3rd after The Hulk, who also showed up a lot), but he wasn't annoyingly ubiquitous like he is now.

Who in the blue hell are those people? I mean, obviously Reed, Sue, and Ben, but who're the goofy looking Spider-Man wanna-be and the two kids?

Wait a sec... I know this is complete unfeasible, but imagine, for a moment, if you will, Edward Norton, Nicholas Cage, Tobey Maguire, and Hugh Jackman wearing slick versions of these uniforms. Actually, all joking aside, that’d be kind of awesome. Unfortunately Marvel seems to have burned bridges with half these guys so it’ll never happen. They don’t seem very good at keeping talent around from movie to movie. That’s one of the reasons I wonder if the Avengers movie will actually be made. (That and that Whedon tends to be pretty flakey when it comes to things he didn’t create himself) Who in the blue hell are those people? I mean, obviously Reed, Sue, and Ben, but who're the goofy looking Spider-Man wanna-be and the two kids? The “Spider-Man Wanna-Be” is Spider-Man (in a hideous-but-still-not-as-bad-as-what-he-is-wearing-now-in-his-own-comic costume. The kids are Frank and Val (Reed and Sue’s children).

Wow last time I saw Val, she was grown up. Weird.
What's Spidey wearing in his own comic??? Cuz really... that is pretty bad.

This … www.comicrelated.com/graphics/ASM_656_cov.jpg… is his new “Stealth Suit”. I’ve also seen images of it where the Spider is neon green or red instead of yellow… because nothing says “stealth” like glowing neon. Val seems to have fallen into the same trap that he brother has been in for decades; she’s as old as the creative team wants her to be at that moment. Sometimes there’s a plot reason and sometimes there isn’t. Also the issue tends to get even more confused when they hire artists that can’t draw children to do a book where a third of the main cast are kids. Things are probably going to get even worse because the Future Foundation also includes Atrie, Leach, and at least one former member of Power Pack.

Wow. Nothing screams stealth like "glowing yellow highlights"...

Maybe the three (or more?) light-up suits are meant to camouflage him when he’s in Times Square? I suppose that’s still more believable than Wolverine being a “ninja” who wears orange and yellow. (As a sidenote, I actually kind of like the black and green one… www.hcrealms.com/forum/showthread.php?p=4883809…but sort of think it’d be better on the new Venom* and had a good laugh when I read it was a “stealth suit”) *I just found out who he is and would be really exited if not for the underwhelming creative team and the dismal state of the Spidey books.
