I liked Cavill in "The Tudors". After seeing another post about Tom Welling I finally looked him up...oh, the Smallville kid....he looks too emo imo.

There hasn't been a good Superman since Christopher Reeves. I'll just go out and say it. There hasn't been a good Superman Movie since him either. I became a fan of Superman some time in the 90's watching the Adventures of Superman with George Reeves that ran during Nick at Night, and thought the only thing good about the Adventures of Lois and Clark was Terri Hatcher (because she's fine), and John Shea (Lex Luthor), whom happens to be a good actor.
While a fan of Smallville Clark Kent isn't Superman in that series, but he would be better than Brandon Routh Henry Cavill. It's funny that Superman gets his powers from the sun, but still some how they cast pale emo skinny boys to play the man of steal.
To get the good feel for Superman you need somebody who's kind of rough and burly like a construction worker, not somebody who's worried about power walking to work and counting carbs. Tim Welling doesn't have that, but he's still a better choice than the last two. However, I don't suspect he'll play Superman for a movie any time soon, and I haven't been fallowing this season of Smallville, but I'm suspecting he won't be Superman until the last episode. I'm waiting for the Blue Ray Box set to come out so I can just watch the series through.
Regardless, I'm not watching this new Superman movie because of it's horrible casting. The last Superman movie sucked, and Kevin Spacey was the only thing that made me think I didn't completely waste my money renting it. I don't know what they were thinking getting a fugly Lois Lane. No wonder Superman disappeared for years after hitting that. I would have too. She's not like Terri Hatcher or Erica Endurance, I mean you'd have to lock that down, but was hideous in that movie. She looked like a face tuck that spanned some sort of freakish crystal meth addiction fallowed by years of anorexia, or bulimia.
I don't normally say this, but the only reason I would ever have sex with her is for the fact that she played Lois Lane. I don't even think my trusty friend's Jim, Jack, and Josie would even want me going there. Even then I would be at a loss as to where I'd even tell anybody. F*ck Kate Bosworth, and more importantly Anne Hatheway as Lois? It's the closest thing I can find as a casting for Lois. Oh well, she's more bangable than Bosworth. Try saying that three times fast.

Are you kidding me??? Let's not give Christopher Reeve a rimjob just because he's dead, alright? He was a second rate actor at best, and a terrible Superman. The only way you could argue that he played the role well is if he was the first Superman you were exposed to. He did a good Clark Kent, but his Superman was justlike his Clark Kent... a total wuss-bag. George Reeves did a better Superman by far.
As far as screen portrayal, although his time as Superman and the fully developed "geek" Kent has been limited, nobody touches Tom Welling's portrayal. He's very plugged in to what it is to be Superman.

I'm worried about you're use of the word rimjob fallowed by a mentioning three guys by name.
Anotherway that you could say he was a good superman was that if his three movies as superman kicked ass and if the next two movies as superman were fallowed by whiny emo transvestite looking weirdo's. I liked George allot better, buy as far as movies go Christopher Reeves is the best Superman, and will continue to be until somebody with an IQ point cast Superman.
Even Smallville had him guest star more than any other Superman past. I don't ever remember seeing Brandon Routh guest star, and Dean Cane was only in like one episode. Without the Christopher Reeves Superman movies the series wouldn't be where it is.

You're right... without Christopher Reeves we wouldn't have the absolute garbage that was Superman III, Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, and Superman Returns.
Oh, wait. That would be a good thing. I would trade the mediocrity of the first two Reeves films to wipe the memory of the other 3 from my mind forever any day. Hell, even in the "good" Superman films, we get to see Superman reversing time by flying backwards around the planet??? And don't even get me started on Gene Hackman's godawful portrayal of Lex Luthor.
Dean Caine was a far superior Superman to Christopher Reeves. The reason Reeves was on Smallville more is because his character wasn't killed off. Dean Caine's was. Then there's the fact that Dean Caine has proven resistant to working on Superman projects in the past, so they wanted to make his storyline self-contained in case he refused to come back.
If your point is that Christopher Reeves is the more respected actor than Dean Caine or Tom Welling? Given. But he may actually be the second worst Superman of all time (second only to the utter lack of screen presence that was Brandon Routh)

That was freakin' hilarious and made me shoot Mt. Dew out of my nose. It might be just becuase I got off of work after a 9 hour shift but eh, good laugh anyways.
Alright, that was an interesting few posts.
I have to saw Reeves was a good Superman, a better Clark Kent but I enjoyed all of his movies, and if those movies had "eh" moments it was from bad directing and script writing then anything else.
As for the guy who played in the last Superman Movie? Ya, he made a better Superman but the movie sucked. So many holes left that were not explained, etc.
I really think they need to bust their ass and get some decent casting, would not mind them using Dean Caine, I think he made one hell of a Superman.
I do not watch Smallville, so no comment on that.

I can never get excited because of these threads, because I usually have no idea who the actor is. Of course that means I won't get upset if the actor turns out to be a bad choice either.

I don't know this new guy either. Other than his relatively weak chin, I have no problems with him being cast. I'm just shocked by people saying that Christopher Reeve made a good Superman. He was, as my friend across the pond would say, shite.

Reeves was an awesome Nice Guy, Golden Age Style, Superman. I would not have cast him in Smallville but that is a very different take on the character.

Golden Age Superman was not a nice guy. He threw people through walls. He treated police and other city officials like they were his retarded little brothers. Reeve's version of Superman was his own entirely. It was somewhat similar to the Silver Age portrayal, but even there, there were significant differences. On some level, playing an iconic role means having a certain look. Christopher Reeve lacks the look of Superman entirely. But more importantly there is the question of persona. Personality-wise, he utterly lacks the force of personality that has been a part of Superman's persona in every comic book incarnation. Superman exudes confidence and reliability. Christopher Reeve exudes "gee, aren't I a nice guy?" There's a difference between those two things. It might be subtle, but its important. What Dean Caine and Tom Welling bring to the table is that gravitas. They both know what it is to be the quarterback. When they say "I'll save the day!" you believe it. Christopher Reeve and Brandon Routh? Not so much.

Amy Adams has been cast as Lois. I remember reading sometime ago that there was some other casting news, I think for Ma Kent. But I can't remember who got it.
