I want to see a full blown nerd peter parker some day. You know, horrible thick glasses, allergies, won't stop opsessing about star wars, star trek, or whatever copy writes can allow him to talk about, and have Mary Jane the type of girl who flirts with him, and then make fun of him behind his back. The problem is, that was never the kind of character Peter Parker was meant to be. He was smart and unpopular (and originally in the comics, scrawny), but he wasn't a "geek" in the sense that he read a lot of comic books or had other "geeky" obsessions. That's important to the character because Peter Parker is an everyman. You can't be an everyman if you represent any one specific group overmuch.

While true Peter Parker portrays every man, my description of a comical like Peter Parker would describe the majority spiderman fan base that I am familiar with. Ironic

Ironic Yeah, but the fanbase don't want to be comic book geeks. They want to be really smart, and get the girl. That's what Parker does for them. That's one reason he's such an endearing character.

Just saw the trailer last night. Eh. Looks... all right. Rentable, but would I drop movie theatre ticket moneys on it? Nooooo. The "Mirror's Edge" ending of the trailer sorta cracked me up.

I'd go with "seems good to me". I've given up hoping for "great" with Marvel movies, but I think I'll watch and probably like this one at least somewhat.

I'll be happy if Marvel can ever make a movie without taking a bat to the knees of their own canon.

That isn't going to happen any time soon, sadly. They have been very successful (financially) with their current model, which is to keep the characters looking like their comic counterparts, but to take significant liberties, mostly in the name of fun. As long as the movies that fail are sequels (Spider 3, X3, Wolverine, etc) then they still make tons of money.
I think First Class was a real blow to the dream of seeing more canon material in Marvel films. That is probably the least accurate film compared to its source material, and yet it still made a ton of movie, plus it got awesome reviews which essentially guarantees big bucks for its sequels no matter how bad they are.
Sadface.

Pretty much everything you just said. Definitely sad.
I doubt it'll end up getting used, but one of the scripts for Justice League (if that ever gets made at all) that's being floated around the internet is pretty close to canon. It makes all of the heroes recent/modern, which means a lot of the canon is out, but it doesn't take a ton of crazy liberties with their origins and such (of course, at least a portion of that will have to go if they want to maintain continuity with Green Lantern)

I still have a tiny scrap of hope for the Runaways movie. But it isn't like the canon material for Runaways is that well known anyway.
They really need to make an Iron Fist movie. Isaiah Mustafa (the Old Spice guy) is dying to play Luke Cage, and Danny Rand could make a very likeable lead. And I think audiences could stand to see some better fight scenes in these Marvel movies, and who better to deliver?

lol Hey, at least it wasn't Chris Evans, right? ~TWF Actually I'd take Evans as IF. I think he could do a good job with it. Seems unlikely given his relationship with Marvel though.
