Saw the trailer on the big screen before Captain America today. I really can't figure out how hey sewed that costume together by hand. He's clearly shown hand-sewing it in what looks like a single night. It looked even worse on the big screen. I don't know if I have a big enough crush on Emma Stone to see this movie. I really really despise emo Peter Parker. ~TWF

I challenge you to find any time in Peter Parker's young life when he wasn't emo.
Obviously, the term wasn't around yet, but Parker was always very angsty. That's what Stan Lee does. He tells stories about the angst of being an eternal outsider. Even the Fantastic Four explored different aspects of the same theme.

There's emotional, and then there's emo. Emotional is your uncle died and you could have done something to stop it, so you harbor a terrible inner guilt that urges you to use your powers to help others and do what's right.
Emo is wearing dark hoodies in the middle of summer and doodling spiders and skulls and black roses (because only they can understand your tragic pain) in your notebook when you should be paying attention in class.
I feel for emotional Peter Parker. I share his suffering and want him to succeed because he probably deserves it.
Conversely, I want to beat up emo Peter Parker and steal his lunch money.
See the difference?

Sure, I get what you're saying... but nothing about this movie suggests to me that Parker will be wearing a dark hoodie or painting his fingernails black. I was basing my comment on what I was able to observe regarding the character from the trailer. Nothing suggested that he was particularly emo in style.
Yes, the trailer does seem to focus on the character's angst rather than the "wow I've got super powers!" aspect of it all... but I like that. I am soooooooooo friggin' sick of the origin story with the main character discovering that he has super powers, and now all of a sudden his life is awesome because his powers somehow make his life great. He can talk to girls, and he discovers a hidden strength he never knew he had! I get that people are tired of origin stories. I'm not. I'm tired of every origin story being the same.
So yeah... one that focuses on the fact that being a teenager is being a teenager is being a teenager... whether its 1961 or 20011, and that comes with a feeling of being oppressed (whether you are or not), awkwardness (no matter how popular you are) rather than shows us a Peter Parker who is either happier than he has any right to be, or fast-forwards from high school to college with no mention of his intervening years.
What am I not seeing in this trailer that suggests that this guy is going to be drawing spiders and black roses (black roses are cool, I don't care what you say) and carrying on as a loner who thinks everyone else is just a sheep or a robot? He seems to be pretty much a standard-issue Peter Parker to me... geek chic and maybe a little too focused on his internal struggle, but basically just like everybody I knew when I was a teenager. Well, not everybody I knew. Most guys I knew weren't anywhere close to dating a Gwen Stacy.

Sure, I get what you're saying... but nothing about this movie suggests to me that Parker will be wearing a dark hoodie or painting his fingernails black. I think he's actually painting his nails in that last one. Kidding aside, I was being hyperbolic in my last post, obviously, but it's pretty painfully clear that they're going for a dark, emo vibe here. In the trailer he smiles ONCE, when talking with Gwen Stacy, and that only proves he's straight and has a pulse. ^___^ Seriously, though, look at those pictures, all from the trailer. Is that Peter Parker or Donnie Darko? ~TWF

Yeah okay you win. That's pretty emo. The pic where he's in the hoodie with his head down in class particularly. Yuck.

Thanks for the laugh, guys...unfortunately, now my wife is giving me dirty looks. Apparently I'm not supposed to be enjoying myself whilst she has two broken wrists...

Ok, something I've heard that explains a lot about the "why the hell are they making a reboot so soon" thing.
Apparently, Columbia is having a pissing match with Marvel Studios and is going to just keep pumping out reboots and sequels in order to hold on to the property and to still get profits off of it all.
