KISS OF DEATH Brian Braddock is walking across St James' Park, watching the people milling about by the lake, when a dark shadow falls across them. Looking up, he sees an incredible sight -- a sleek, silent vessel is drifting downwards, causing the people to run in panic from beneath its bulk. The ship settles upon the ground, and there is a moment of tense anticipation among the terrified crowds. With a hiss, a door opens in the side of the vessel, and a tall figure rushes out, souring suddenly into the air with a sound of rushing air. The woman beside Brian screams in alarm "What are they...?" A blast of air sweeps across the ground as Braddock recognises his assailant in that moment -- from out of his past, Hurricane has come to battle Captain Britain again!

BRIAN BRADDOCK"What in the...?" splutters Braddock. He turns to the woman beside him. "Run! Seek cover madam! Call the police!" Braddock makes sure she runs off, then steps behind a tree ( OOC or something by which he can gain cover) to shed his outer clothes and reveal the costume beneath! He pulls on his mask, slips the hood over the top, steps out of his trousers and reaches into his satchel for his boots, pulling them on and, annoyed a little, hopping about on one foot. With the other boot in place he turns to step out from cover... "Blast! Gloves!" he mutters, and reaches into the satchel to slide them on. Now, stepping from behind the tree, his satchel safely stuffed into a bush, Captain Britain looked about for anyone in immediate danger before her turned his attentions to Hurricane, a foe he'd not faced since he used his Star Sceptre! Once he was sure he could attend to the bad guy, Captain Britain shot through the air to deliver - he hoped - a terrific punch! ACTIONSGet Bystander clear Change into costume Ensure no one else in danger (if so, help them out first) Fly over to Hurricane Give him what for!

OOC: Page 208 of the Rules Manual states that a Persuasion check is only necessary if the service or belief is not in the subject's own best interest. I think running, seeking cover and calling the police is in the bystanders best interests, so no roll is necessary.
Still in the guise of his secret identity, Braddock finds a location where he can make the change to Captain Britain. While Brian Britain hides and changes, Hurricane spends the time summoning up a mini-hurricane to unleash upon the members of the public. Everyone is fleeing and seeking cover, except for the woman Braddock spoke with earlier. She is making a call from a phone booth that's now directly in the path of the deadly hurricane winds! "HELP!!!"
OOC: Well, running to the cover of the phone booth and calling the police appeared to be in her best interest at the time.

[glow=blue,2,300]CAPTAIN BRITAIN[/glow]"Right then... let's be... oh no..." moaned Captain Britain as the wind tore at him. He saw the woman he'd previously warned to get clear was using a phone box - directly in the path of Hurricane! Thinking quickly, Braddock knew that Hurricane wouldn't go down without a fight, and that the woman would be caught up in it if he didn't act! He shot down like an arrow to land and said "Sorry about the hands, miss, but it's time to leave..." he scooped her up and looked to see where Hurricane was... "NOW!" he shouted, eyes wide, and he took to the air to fly to a safe distance and set the woman down! ACTIONSMOVE: Fly to woman. DICE: Grab her if she's unwilling - he's trying to save her life MOVE: Rest of move action to get her to safety Notes: If he can't get her away in time he'll use his own body (force field up!) to shield her. I *think* he's used the Force Field as a form of telekinesis and as a dome before, but seemed to 'forget' to use it like that as time went by. That would be in the Daredevils appearances and early Might World of Marvel books I think. It's, ah, been a while...OOC I assume you mean page 28 of 2nd ed Rules Manual (the red book). No version of the game I know of (save the risible Blood of Heroes version) has 200+ pages in

OOC: I did mean pg. 28 and Captain Britain can protect others with his shield, up to 3 AP volume (8 cubic feet), like this...
...from Marvel Super Heroes: Issue 378 (October 1981).Captain Britain has moved the woman to safety, but imagine if you will, a hurricane. Ten metres hight and thirty metres wide--swirling in the center of the park with winds in excess of two hundred knots and in the centre of its vortex--secure and protected by the dead calm of the storm's eye--stands one lone, laughing madman!

[glow=blue,2,300]CAPTAIN BRITAIN[/glow]
Captain Britain lands, drops the lady off and shouts "Run for cover! Call the police only after you're safe!"
As the wind tears at his forcefield, he turns to face the lunatic he knows as Hurricane. With gritted teeth he looks about to make sure no one else is in danger. If any other people in the vicinity are clear he takes to the air and heads like a missile towards the villain, intent on slamming at high speed into him!
ACTIONS
Automatic - Force Field up Automatic - Flight at top speed Dice - Charge into the bad guy. Add 1 Hero Point to Acting, and 1 to effect (so his AV/EV should be 9 apiece as EV is his Flight speed when charging)

"Captain Britain!" Hurricane shouts as he spots the hero charging toward him. But Captain Britain is not able to penetrate the winds! Instead of reaching Hurricane, Captain Britain is Knocked Back 2 APs (40 ft.) into a tree!

[glow=blue,2,300]CAPTAIN BRITAIN[/glow]
Feeling somewhat embarrassed, but smart enough to know when he's outmatched in one way, he tries another. Flying up to within shouting distance of Hurricane, he bellows "WHATEVER YOU'RE AFTER, FORGET IT CHUM!" and looks for anything out of the ordinary, something he can use about Hurricanes person, a power pack, or means of disabling his power.
Braddock frowned, inside the mask. He would have to somehow get close to this clown, and considered several options. First, he looked to see what was on/about the criminals person.
ACTIONS
Force Field up
Automatic - Flight to within shouting distance Dice - Perception check (with sharp eye) to see anything he can target on Hurricane.

"How does it feel," a voice calls from the calm eye of the hurricane, "to be hit by the full fury of a hurricane's winds?!"
It's hard to see Hurricane through the storm, but it looks like the villain is wearing a back pack.

The Captain frowns, checks no one else is in immediate danger, and flies up, above Hurricane to look down from above. He'll take his best shot at flying down into the eye of the tornado and hitting the bad guy - or grabbing him, whichever easier - from above.
ACTIONS
Force Field up
Automatic - Flight to a point above Hurricane, then blast straight down into the eye of the storm and get his hands on his foe Dice - Grab Hurricane if possible. Once grabbed, he hopes to be able to tear the backpack off his foe.

OOC: From what I can tell a Grapple Attack combat Maneuver requires the same roll as a simple, straightforward attack. The only changes are that a Grapple occurs on success, but Knockback is not possible.
However, a Perception Check (Dice Action) is required in order to plot a course through the eye of the hurricane. You can only make one dice Action in a single phase, so you can not fly to Hurricane through the eye and grapple him in the same phase.
Also, you can only make one move action per phase, CB can't fly up for a perception check and then fly down in the same phase.
Let's start this phase a little more officially to follow the game mechanic.
1) Activate automatic Powers
None. (CB's Force Field has already been activated.)
2) Roll for initiative
Captain Britain's Initiative: [dice=10+20] Hurricane's Initiative: [dice=10+14] Hero wins.
3) Declare Actions
Hurricane's declared actions: 1. Move toward Captain Britain (Automatic) 2. Use Air Control to reshape the strong winds to include Captain Britain while leaving himself safe in the eye of the hurricane. (Dice)
Captain Britain's declared actions: 1. Flight to a point above Hurricane (automatic) 2. Perception Check to find a course through the eye of the storm (Dice)
4) Resolve Actions
Captain Britain goes first.
CB's flight happens. CB's Perception Check rolled by the Gamemaster in secret.
Result: Captain Britain gets a detailed look at the eye of the hurricane even as it moves toward him and changes shape. He believes he could travel through it to the villain next phase without a follow-up Perception check.
Hurricane goes now.
Move action is not necessary with CB up above.
Reshaping the winds with air control to reach CB up above.
With Air Control of 10, Hurricane can reshape up to 1024 cubic ft. in order to reach the airborne Captain Britain.
AV: Air Control 10 OV: CB's Dex 8 Roll: [dice=10] + [dice=10] Success + 3 CS
EV: 10 RV: CB's body + Force Field 8 + 3 CS Result = 8 AP for Knockback of 8 - 3 = 5 APs
Hurricane blows CB into a building.
AV: 5 OV: CB's Body + Force Field 8 Roll: [dice=10]+[dice=10] Doubles 12+[dice=10]+[dice=10] 24 results in 4 Column Shifts
EV: 6 RV: CB's Body + Force Field 8 + 4 Column shifts Result" A for 6 APs Physical Killing Damage
Captain Britain's Body is 5, so it is reduced to -1.
You have more experience than I do with this game, so please check my numbers. The game is not over with CB's defeat, but if I made a boo-boo somewhere, I want to know before continuing.

OOC couple of bits. Your math is about right (save that Captain Britain is about my size, or slightly bigger - and I weigh in the 3AP range, between 225 and 260lbs or thereabouts. He's 6'6" and 240 ish I think, unless he's been on a diet).
Plus, it's the nature of the beast in play by post that you assume a few things (hence my general 'I want to do this, then this, then if that happens do that' otherwise we'd be going round by round and combat takes months). With that in mind I'd spend (or would have spent) 1 HP on OV/RV for the attack dropping knockback to 4APs (less 3APs weight) or 1AP (20') and even with that roll he'd have taken no damage.
No matter - Captain Britain will spend 2HP on Last Ditch Defence (PG19) to put him on 1 Body and 7HP remaining. I don't think 2nd Edition (which we're using) had stunning rules, but in 3rd edition if you took more damage than your RV, you were stunned (regardless of whether you used last ditch defence to soak some up) and missed your next dice action (but otherwise had the same OV/RV as usual).[glow=blue,2,300]CAPTAIN BRITAIN[/glow]Thrown backwards through the air, Captain Britain slammed against a building side, WHOOFING the air from him and making the world spin for a moment! His overconfidence had, once more, led him to blunder straight into the bad guys clutches! Either that or Hurricane had significantly boosted his abilities since last time! OOC 10APs is knocking on for Amazing rank, no idea (without looking, and I won't) what Hurricanes Air Control is, but it packs quite a wallop, especially with nutty dice rolls thrown into the bargain! When attacked again, Captain Britain will spend 1HP on OV/RV as long as he has HP remaining, against Hurricane.ACTIONS: If Hurricane presses his attack Captain Britain will try to charge from above, knowing now that his foe sits in the eye of the storm.
If Hurricane tries to escape or head towards somewhere, Captain Britain will follow at a safe distance, then strike (blindside) from behind and above at his foe.
If something else happens, I'll post accordingly

Believing Captain Britain defeated, Hurricane turns his attention back to the destruction of the immediate area. Stunned, Captain Britain follows at a safe distance, as Hurricane heads toward Buckingham Palace![OOC: Stunned is an Advanced Rule in DC Heroes 2nd Edition. Since it looks like a good one, let's use it. Captain Britain just used Flight last Phase since it's an Automatic Action.] New Phase1. Activate Automatic PowersHurricane activates Flight. 2. Roll for InitiativeCaptain Britain: [dice=10+20] Hurricane: [dice=10+14] 3. Declare ActionsHurricane will use Flight to move toward Buckingham Palace. [Automatic] and then use his wrist blasters to use Super Breath on the palace guard. [Dice Action] Please declare Captain Britain's actions and then begin Step 4 Perform Actions. Captain Britain's Body: 1 Captain Britain's Hero Points: 7[rand=43677967460826046620431474875659743160455487668510329466592520475]

[glow=blue,2,300]CAPTAIN BRITAIN[/glow]Somewhat embarrassed and battered, Captain Britain soars up, clenches his fists and teeth, narrows his eyes, then moves in a lazy arc downwards, speeding up as he targets Hurricane from behind and above, firing straight down the hole like an arrow (hopefully) and clattering into the bad guy from above! This time he doesn't make the amateur blunder of announcing his intentions or heading straight on like a battering ram. He recalled in his earlier incarnation having been beaten - quite soundly, several times - by Hurricane and cursed himself for a fool for forgetting about the mans source of power! OOC don't know if Cap Britain would remember the specifics of his encounter with Hurricane - he's had quite a few knocks on the head since 1976 by 1984, but the picture at least brings colour to my text wall ACTIONSAutomatic - Flight to follow bad guy from above/behind His next Dice + Auto Action (rest of his flight movement, should be fine unless Hurrican is moving faster than 8Aps) the Captain will use to Charge at Hurricane from above and Behind (-1 OV Blindside). Will use 1 Hero point on Acting Value (up to 9) and another on effect value (up to 9) for the attack. Hero Points remaining:5 If required (if the Captain is attacked) he will use 1HP each on OV and RV to raise both to 9.

Captain Britain AV: 8 DEX + 1 HP Hurricane OV: 2 DEX - 1 CS [dice=10]+[dice=10] Hit, but no column shifts because the roll was under 11. CB's EV: 8 Flight + 1 HP H's RV: 9 (4 BODY + 5 SKIN ARMOR) 2 AP Damage to Hurricane Charge EV: 9 CB's RV: 8 ( 5 BODY + 3 Force Field) This would result in a 3. Do you wish to spend Hero Points on RV or Last Ditch Defense? If not, then Captain Britain knocked himself out by charging into Hurricane at full speed.
