Where a normal person might act crazy if hypnotized, the Joker acted too sane just now. What was he watching and does it contain any subliminal messages?
Batman re-enters the warehouse to find out.

Batman
Using the finest detectives mind in the world, Batman took a look around the equipment that Joker had been sat at...
His findings were interesting...
The equipment in this warehouse was all manufactured by LexCorp and is presently operating a scientific project in collaboration with a similar establishment in Metropolis, where each location has been electrolyzing the cities' respective harbors.
The computations presently being performed relate to theoretical Cold Fusion processes, where deuterium atoms are absorbed by an element known as palladium. In such a process, deuterium and palladium atoms are fused together, releasing great amounts of energy and vast numbers of neutrons.
So, Joker may well have been right about Luthors' involvement. Did Batman know enough to act or did he want to continue his investigation?

Batman checks if any of the "LexCorp" equipment are actually a stolen goods that were perhaps also temporary property of the Pawn King. He also wants to see if this equipment was set up by the Joker or someone else.

OOC Ok I now have no idea what's going on. I had to delete a post because I put the wrong dice syntax in (2-20 instead of 1-10 twice) then every time I tried to post the right one in it requested a file upload or something. Don't know what is going on.
From Invisible Castle:
1d10 → [8] = (8) 1d10 → [6] = (6)

Batman is about to dig deeper into the origins of the electronic equipment when he notices something...
Something caught his eye. He narrowed his vision and noted the slight raising of a floorboard in a corner. It looked like dust and a little sawdust had been swept lightly over the area, in an effort to hide something.
Closer inspection reveals a hatch doorway set into the floor. His instincts tell him true - there's no booby trap. Instead after opening it Batman sees rusted ladders go down below the building to the lapping waves below the pier. He also spots something else...
Hidden in the shadows under the warehouse, submerged deep in the icy waters of Gotham Harbor, is a huge device which pulses with phenomenal power. Innumerable electrical wires run in and out of the device, both returning to the warehouse machinery and leading out into Gotham Bay and beyond, where they are lost amid the city's array of cables.
OOC Feel free to roll whatever cheks you want Batman to make. I have a feeling it will throw its teddy out of the cot should I try to roll more dice in this post, and I will lose all I've written...

Batman
OOC Batman achieves full raps upon gadget identification. There's no booby trap. RAPs of the Gadget ID come up with:
The device is a powerful electrical converter.
The converter serves two purposes:(1)it has been steadily electrolyzing Gotham Harbor, altering normal H2O into D2O, its heavv water isotope, and (2 it redirects the majority of its converted power to the fusion reactor's primary site, located somewhere beyond Gotham Harbor. Disconnection of the device could initiate electrical feedback from the main fusion site. This will cause a tremendous explosion somewhere along the device's path as the atoms of the deuterium-rich waters mix violently with surrounding oxygen atoms.
Batman stands and looks at the water, the machine, and the machines in the room. His gut tells him not to trust Joker, his head says the Clown Prince of Crime has a personal interest in making sure Luthor - assuming it is him - pays for manipulating him. Sometimes it takes a thief to catch a thief.
OOC Gotham PD hasn't left with Joker yet if you want to question him any more. If not, this section is concluded and play switches to Part III: Confrontation.

OOC I don't believe it. I spent over half an hour typing up a reply then this stupid (*&*&*&(*)(&YDKJHKJH website asks me to 'drag some files to upload' for some reason and I lose the whole pissing lot. SHIT! I will give an abridged version. I'm up at 5am for work and running out of time now.
In the adventure there is a Q&A session with the Batman player asking certain questions to get certain answers. It won't work in PBP (probably take weeks) so I've ad-libbed (again, NNNGH!) where required to give Batman some of the answers he needs.
BATMAN and THE JOKER!
"Cold fusion?" shrugs Joker. "When I turn on a light I don't care whether it's Cold Fusion, Old Fusion, Mould fusion or Con Fusion that is making it shine! I know as much as the next man, albeit that man is you. However..." he glanced at the police around. "I suggest we take this conversation a short way away. No need to help our mutual thorns' cause by one of these fine chaps spilling the beans and setting our home to Panic, Fear and Ruin. Those things I normally crave, not this time."
He offers a hand to point the way and walks alongside Batman, talking all the while in a lowered voice.
"Perhaps a more relevant question to ask is WHY Cold Fusion. A nuclear level power, and possible detonation, to destroy not one but two cities? Gotham and Metropolis? I must admit the second puzzles me, but I suppose Luthor might have concocted some plan to..."
He paused, chin in hand, eyebrow raise,d then lowering "That snake! In his quest to be the ultimate power in Metropolis, and moreover, the world, Luthor must be trying to destroy both cities to achieve total humiliation, and perhaps even destruction, of his own greatest enemy, Superman. And it's hardly only the Man of Steel's problem when all of Gotham City is threatened, is it, Batman. Superman may indeed be attempting to stop Luthor's plan also, but we can't take the chance if he hasn't learned of the events. And consider our own situation right now-if Luthor's clever enough to trick us both this way, it could well be that he might convince Superman that I'M the one behind this plan. That cur! If I didn't dislike him so much I would like him!" he cackled, without mirth. "And wouldn't that place the Blue boy as our opposition? If that's the case and Superman is siding with Luthor, we must be extremely careful and doubly certain that we are the ones to reach the site and act first! Should you need to combat him to prove our point, I'm certain you could emerge victorious. Loathe as I am to admit it, you are the best equipped to examine the Cold Fusion device and defeat Luthors plan."
"In this case, possibly the only one you and I shall have our paths intertwine in such a way, I offer you my service. I want to see Gotham saved and Luthor defeated as much - more - than you. I will stay at the machines in the warehouse to monitor them and should you fail... I will try my utmost to save our city. Bizarre isn't it? I the yang to your ying, the beer to your pretzel... To defeat Luthor I will happily toss aside my usual aims and goals and..." he looked pained, as if to stave off a headache "I will hand myself in willingly to the Gotham Police after it is done. Of course if you fail, it's all up to me. And if I fail..."
He made a silent 'explosion' gesture, and his face looked as deadly serious and, Batman thought, fearful, as Batman had ever seen him.
The Dark Knight was an experienced reader of people. He could tell that even a madman as Joker was being on the level.
Anything that could scare the Joker into siding, fusing even, with the good guys had to be deadly serious, A deadly fusion indeed.
OOC Different from my last post, but if you want to add further questions feel free. If not, we end this chapter and switch to the Superman chapter III: on the waterfront
Posting now before it craps out on me and I lose the lot again...

"Joker, why would someone break you out of Arkham, just to leave you alive and unguarded in that warehouse? Perhaps your involvement is exactly what Lex Luthor is counting on." It seems illogical to include Joker in this game. In fact, if Joker was not broken out of Arkham, it is possible that Batman would have never discovered this place or the cold fusion bomb. It seems almost like someone wanted Batman and the Joker to get involved. But why?
Intelligence Check to try to determine a possible motive for someone getting the Joker and bringing him here.

BATMAN and the JOKER
"I admit that I do recall many of the events. I ordered the salts and other items at Arkham. And the men you encountered were my actual employees. Yet all of this remains a blur, as if I merely observed the events from afar. I have no knowledge of committing the actions. It was as if I were controlled by something or someone-which is why I suspect Luthor." said Joker. Batman couldn't tell if he were lying or not - the mere fact that he wasn't punching Joker out and handing him over to Gordons men seemed surreal.
"With the vast scientific and technical facilities at his service, I am certain Luthor could simulate my Serum to suit his needs and frame me. While I never expected to be the focus of one of his plans, I might have underestimated his determination." He continued.
"Oh come on Bats! Besides saving the city which we both love, this will be FUN!" he cackled. "And what's more, any chance to get back at Luthor is fine by me. As I already said, I'm out of Arkham for someone else's amusement and use as a pawn. That, if you know me at all, does not sit well. Throw me back in - after we are sure Luthors plan is stopped! Let's face it. If you fall short, I'm no help to you in Arkham and I don't fancy burning in my cell while that ... that... EGGHEAD torches the town! Oooooh. Why if I weren't such a forgiving soul, I'd have some really nasty things to say about him right now... Oh, and in case you think to leave one of Gordons' goons in charge of this warehouse, I'd think again. They barely know how to tie their own laces, never mind disarm a machine that could melt down Gotham around our ears. Of course, I don't know how to - yet - but in a pinch I'll think of something! Whaddya say Bats?"

"I say you have the largest single body count of any villain in or out of Gotham. Your high murder rate is because you are largely indiscriminate in how you kill, ranging from the traditional knives, guns, and explosives, to your signature Joker venom and electric buzzer. I say no. You need to be locked up."

OOC Sorry for the delay. Am actually posting from my laptop which I've bodged to get some more life out of. No idea how long it will last. Good to have it back though! It's probably not very interesting but the process I followed was on Youtube - dell m1530 video card (or something like that). Basically pull the back off and all the heatsink assembly and fire the wife's hair dryer at it for 10 minutes in one hand, with fingers crossed on the other.
So far so good.
THE BATMAN and THE JOKER
Joker shrugs. "Well, there's no need to be like that. Thanks for the compliment by the way, I wasn't aware anyone was keeping score but it's nice to know I'm still number one... but for how long? If Luthor has his way, he'll supplant me at the top and I'll take the rap... except I won't, because I'll be a crispy cinder, along with the rest of Gotham. For someone so smart, you are surprisingly dumb, Bats." he cackles.
He puts on his shrewd, calculating face. "I'm Gothams only hope. Bats has gone batty. No way Luthor is being the toast of MY town... let's see..." he looked absently up at Batman. "Are you still here? Oh, hand me over to Gordons men and go bother someone else. You are missing a few bats in your belfry if you ask me..." he laughs, making a twirling motion with his finger at his temple while pulling a face.
OOC Ok the adventure asks a definitive 'Will you accept Jokers help or not' and wants a yes/no so I will take your answer as NO and that's us done for this section. Over to you. On another note, my laptop is (temporarily) working but no idea how long it will last. That said I plan to buy another and resume normal posting hopefully in the next week. Any absence will be because the laptop gave up the ghost again/work/kids or it's too cold to post in the computer room in my house. It's ffffffreeeezing in there...

Encounter Six: The Dockyards
The downtown section of Metropolis seems quiet this early morning, as the first few rays of dawn glitter along the city's dockyard waters. Several battleships line the outer portion of the harbor, great silhouettes which bookend the harbor's mouth, leading out toward the tranquil sea.
The vast complex of warehouses which comprises the dockyards doubles as a miniature city itself, housing everything from businesses to chic nightclub locations. Under the cover of darkness, the warehouses' facades can range in appearance from ominously foreboding to neon-lit outrageousness, yet, in the solitude of a Metropolis morning, each sits harmlessly on the city's waterfront. Gentle harbor waters lap rhythmically underneath their stilted foundations.
Superman arrives at the dockyard, following one of the armored villains from the Wrigley Building.
Two shadowed figures appear to be conversing near a huge, inauspicious warehouse along the length of one of the dockyard piers. One is the familiar frame of Lois Lane. The other figure in the warehouse shadows is a man who stepping into the early morning light, draws a long knife close to Lois' face!
With surprising speed, the Planet reporter steps cautiously back one pace and then shoves the spike of her high-heel directly into the man's left kneecap. Her opponent reels back toward the warehouse doors, clutching his knee and screaming in pain.
"The witch nailed me!" Superman hears the man cry out to the armored villain from the Wrigley Building, now arriving at the dockyards.

SUPERMAN
OOC Still having bother with the laptop but will try my best to get the posts in!
Superman didn't waste any time. He wasn't likely to stand there whilst Lois was in peril! Swooping in he noticed the armoured man and changed direction to take him on. If Lois was in immediate danger he would interpose himself between her and it, but if it looked like she could handle herself, he intended to take down the armoured villain and get some answers!
OOC Ok, couple of things -
1) If Lois is being attacked he will move to act as a shield for her. He will then take out the goon (pull punch for no knockback).
2) If Lois is holding her own, swoop in to land a punch on the armoured man.

Another swift kick from Lois sends the man's knife flying, but not before he can grab Lois' wrist, so Superman intervenes.

"Arrrgh!" the man cries out before falling unconscious.
At this point the armored villain from the news conference alerts the other villains of Superman's presence. "You boys get out here! Superman nailed our guy!"2d10
