So, we got to talking about the beloved, but sadly canceled Spectacular Spider-Man TV show, and I couldn't help but notice that we don't have a thread up for it's successor: Ultimate Spider-Man. According to the wiki, it's due out in April 2011. Here's a trailer (shot on a cell phone, I think, so please excuse the quality): Jake Bell, the VA for Peter Parker/Spider-Man, is a newcomer to the role. However, it also features guys like J.K. Simons and Clark Gregg in the roles they've played on screen (as J. Jonah Jameson and Agent Coulson, respectively). Adrian Pasdar (you probably know him as Nathan Petrelli) has voiced Iron Man before, Tom Kenny is a real veteran, and I just plain love Chi McBride. So that's at least a pretty impressive cast. ~TWF

I...don't know how to feel about this series, I mean on the one hand its Spiderman, and I love me some animated Spiderman, on the other I have been burned by Spiderman cartoons before...I'm looking at you MTV! Um...I'll just have to wait and see how this goes.

I heard Iron Fist will be one of the characters on the show.

I have mixed feelings here.
If transforming chubi Spidey is any indication, it looks like it its going to have a faux anime style. At first I hated that part about Teen Titans but it really grew on me. Given the humor inherent to the character, it actually makes more sense to do that with Spider-Man.
But the show is being run by Bendis and his track record where Spider-Man is concerned is all over the place and – even if the show is great – I doubt it will be worth losing Spectacular.

Was that...the spidey mobile? Anyway now that I've actually looked at the trailer, thought it was the initial one, I don't know how I feel about the villains' design I mean I loved the directions they went with spectacular...reworked but still retro enough to be semi functional and they got rid of Electro's stupid outfit for something better. The more I think about it the more I see this as being Marvel's answer to "Batman: The Brave & The Bold" which wouldn't be that bad, I mean they did it before with Spiderman & His Amazing Friends but...

Hmmm. Dunno. Having been late (very late) to the Spectacular Spiderman party and been impressed no end (to the point where the fight scenes I've seen are either the best, or up with the best, scraps in animated series) I can only hope they learn lessons from that. Jury's out then, for me... Besides, being a US show we'll see it over here in twenty eleventeen, unless I *cough* you know *cough* get it... uh *whistle, shuffle*

Looks awful AND seems to bear no relation to the actual "Ultimate Spider-Man" line.

Are you also referring to the reboot?
I must admit, I am intrigued as to the new Ultimate Spidermans power set. Some kind of Venom blast that - quite literally - stops bad guys in their tracks. He seems not to have Danger Sense, much in the way of superhuman strength, and durability is average human, I'd say.
As per *&^%ing usual Nicky Fury knows who he is in the first issue or two. I think - at some point - Marvel decided secret identities made no sense. Of course, they retconned it in the 616 universe, but in Ultimate the bad guys are half wits. If you know who someone is, just take their family hostage. Game over. They always seem to ignore that advantage though. Well, probably because they are half wits.
The Ultimate line has had some major ups (first run of USM and UFF, some UXMen, various specials) and downs (the art has been total crap when Bagley hasn't been doing it) plus some of the storylines have wavered in quality. Ultimatum was, I think, a mistake. Wiping out big chunks of the Ultimate Universe line up in one go was one way of cleaning house, but will take the mother of all ret-cons to bring back, if/when they do.

I CAN'T BELIEVE SPECTACULAR JUST ENDED LIKE THAT.
I hope Ultimate is this good.

So it's supposed to be showing tomorrow morning @ 11am, from the commercial I'm completely confused in what direction it's supposed to be going now. I thought it was going to be a stand alone Spiderman show, but clearly there are ...Amazing Friend elements, and why the heck does Spiderman even need a jetpack or a motorcycle...how does he ride a motorcycle if he can't even drive at that age?

Uh oh. My 'Spider-this-makes-no-sense' is tingling...
My son has been really looking forward to this, but no idea if/when it will show up over here (I suspect Youtube will be my friend). If it's a load of rubbish he won't mind, but I'll doubtless have to sit through it with him...
