You tend to get noticed if you storing bodies in your loft in NYC I'm guessing.

Well, that's sort of true.
But in a small town, people tend to know each other, so they're more trusting. As such, they're less likely to be suspicious to each other.
Besides, big cities have created their own psychos. Son of Sam anyone?

That whole "people trust each other in a small town" thing is a stereotype that I've generally found to be untrue. Small communities, or rather, the ones I'm familiar with through my family, are full of all kinds of vicious gossip, and people tend to know everyone else's business... or at least think they do. I don't know one way or the other, but I'd be interested to compare number of serial killers and "success rate" based on community size. Each obviously has advantages and disadvantages for the predatory sort. Can't ignore nomadic types, either. I love to watch True Crime shows, and it seems like a lot of these guys are truckers, traveling salesmen, etc... or maybe I keep seeing the same episodes over and over

Well, the Wichita Metro are isn't all that small, though Kansas is rated as having a high level of trusting people overall in the U.S. So says my soc textbook, anyway. Rader (BTK) was interesting for the way he taunted the police by communicating with the media. He retired from killing for a bunch of years and eventually someone ran a story about it in the paper. He was offended that they thought he was dead so he proved he wasn't and got himself caught. One of my communication professors was one of the journalists he used to send his mementos to. Creepy thing was, once they got him in a court room he really seemed to enjoy all the attention...
But anyway, yeah, Kansas sucks. Sorry if it started to sound like I was defending it. ;D

The thing is, if you've lived in a town all your life, do all the standard things, people tend to stop paying attention to you. Yeah, if you drift into town, people might talk, but if you live there all your life? Not so much. Especially if you seem nice and don't do anything all that interesting, or you're particularly charming. How do you think guys like BTK and Gacy got away with it as long as they did? By being the kind of people other people like, generally. While there is alot of gossip flying around, it tends to be limited, and actual suspicion of wrong doing is rare. Sure people might think you're a bit odd or something, but it takes quite a bit for them to actually call the cops or something.
I'd like to point out that both BTK and Gacy were MARRIED for years without anyone seeing anything. The odds of anyone in town seeing a thing wrong were nil to zero.
But on the other hand, the most successful serial killer, Jack the Ripper (most successful in that he actually got away with it) worked in London, and the Zodiac Killer got away with his crimes in the San Fran area. So yeah, good examples in both categories.
Nomadic killers. Reminds me of the I-95 Killer from CSI. Or the serial killer from Frankenstein. Either way.

If the game comes off, it'll probably be in 4 or 5 hours, I'll EMail you about it. What kind of character would you be interested in playing?
