A Marvel Multiverse Mega-Event
Welcome to the end of the worlds, ladies and gentlemen. Each world in the multiverse is going out, one by one, like a candle, attacked by a secret Cabal of nefarious villains, working together to try and fulfill their own various twisted ambitions. Some seek conquest, some seek power, some seek new realities they can wipe clean of all sentient life. Your average bunch of garden-variety psychos. You are heroes assembled as a last-ditch hope to rescue all realities from the destructive campaign of the Cabal. You have to travel between dimensions and try and save them from the Cabal's influence, hoping the next world will be your own...
Since we can play a bit faster and looser with intellectual property law, I came up with a little conceit to this multiverse idea. If your character appeared in a Marvel-licensed comic book, he's appropriate to the setting. If you can vaguely justify your character interacting with ANY version of a Marvel superhero, I'll let him in. I am explicitly including versions of characters related to Star Wars, GI Joe, Godzilla, Transformers, Doctor Who, the NFL Superpro, any other Marvel licensed properties you can think of, even if tangentially related. Look at this list for inspiration. Just be prepared for me to be playing in the same sandbox. Wanna play an alternate reality Snake Eyes? Sounds awesome. Just wait til you meet the evil vampire universe's Storm Shadow...
"DK, you magnificent bastard! How do I build a character for your fantastic idea?"
Okay, so I want to have a team of vastly different stone counts, so we can have Hawkeye and Optimus Prime or whoever working together. Here's my solution to this problem.
1) Everybody starts with 60 stones plus a max of 10 stones in challenges for chargen; characters have no limits to the amount of stones you can bank. This does limit certain cosmic powered characters, but I kind of don't want to have people of that caliber available at start of play unless in a nascent or early form anyway.
2) I will be offering experience in the form of white (chargen) stones. You can use those to improve your character's abilities, actions, and modifiers as normal (and purchase new actions or equipment at full price given GM approval), or, you could bank them towards...
3) ...At the end of each mission, I will be offering a list of upgrades at a discounted rate. Some of these might be represented as training with certain people, acquiring equipment, or changes to the fundamental nature of your character (cybernetic implants, genetic engineering, what have you). It will vary from story to story, so if you don't buy them before the end of the next issue when I come up with new rewards, you won't be able to buy them. Characters who bank more early on will be able to improve their characters more quickly, while more powerful characters will still improve, albeit at a slower rate.
(I wrote up a really funny and rambling hypothetical example here, but I realized it did more harm then good. If this seems unclear, let me know and I'll try to elaborate.)
This game is going to be powered on the rule of cool and doing ridiculous things. I'm looking for something over the top and fun and action-packed. Who's in? Looking for like five to six characters. PM me concepts, questions, whatever.
