Another trailer recently released, this time for Shazam, due out in April 2019:
I.... actually don't hate this one so far. Yes, it extends DC's obsession with starting off all of its heroes as picked-on children (was Diana the only one who wasn't traumatized as a kid?) but they take it in a weird direction. If this actually goes in an almost quasi-deadpool, tongue-in-cheek, deconstruction angle as the trailer seems to suggest, it might actually stand out from the dumpster fire that is the DCEU. I'm getting Big vibes, and I kinda dig it.

Finally a DC movie I'll potentially watch in theaters! Time will tell if this will flop or not, but this one actually does look worth-while. So far, anyways. Neat.

That this kinda inoffensive, somewhat funny, by the numbers action comedy feels tempting within DC movie offerings speaks volumes. It could be somewhat amusing, but also bland.
Also, I'm not super knowledgeable about the character, but does he have the power to turn any object into blatant product placement?

Too bad they didn't call it Captain Marvel. Cuz then I would've actually seen a superhero movie called Captain Marvel.

You're in luck: Captain Marvel will actually be coming out a month before this. I expect a trailer to come out early this fall, maybe at the start of Venom (Oct 5th).

New trailer just dropped:
Still looks watchable? Maybe a little heavy on the goofiness, but at least it's trying to be fun.

It doesn't look super bad... but it goes into the "skip and watch it later" box with Dark Phoenix, new Hellboy, New Mutants...

I mean, to be fair it'd be weird if the products weren't real products. I don't have a problem with this, at least it makes sense.

*Even if it can be done better and more tastefully than there, I've no issue with it. Kinda fits.

Maybe it's a different scene? I feel like that's not something they'd miss.

Maybe, but that would require two different trips to the same shop with the window he threw the goons through still broken. And it would still be poor editing, just poor editing of the trailer. I'm positive that it will be fixed in the movie though, the alternative would be way too funny.

Got to see an early showing of this movie, and I gotta say, I enjoyed it. Whereas Captain Marvel got a 4/10 for me, this movie got an easy 7/10 for me. It was fun, dumb (in a good way) and whereas it's not a Marvel film, I totally forgot I was watching a DC film. (Until they did little shout outs to other heroes) Even so, it was a fun silly film that, hopefully, will send DC in the right direction and away from completely being dark and edgy. For those looking for a serious movie like Wonder Woman was, or a serious/comical movie like Aquaman was, you MIGHT be disappointed at the levels of 'Seriousness' in this movie. It was quite comical all throughout, but it wasn't a totally bad thing. And there was a moment in the movie that legit made me sad, but it may be more of a personal thing for me. In any case, definitely better than a lot of DC movies in my opinion, I will actually remember some scenes from this movie instead of them blending in with the normal DC edginess that they've been shelling out the last few years. EDIT: Also the 'Product placement' switch scene makes sense in the movie, don't worry

Lucky you, and lucky us for getting to hear about it early too. Glad you enjoyed it.
I think one message that was lost in the aftermath of Deadpool's success is that people are willing to see super hero/comic book movies that are just plain fun. Producers seem to have latched on to the success-despite-R-rating message (toss Logan's success in there too) but there's more to it than that. Marvel movies, while fun, are pretty married to their "but also serious and grounded" formula, and that leaves a lot of room for a different kind of tone and experience.
DC also has a real opportunity to pivot. The Justice league series is dead without a Superman or Batman, the Cyborg movie is toast, and even the Flash movie is on life support right now. Ezra Miller's contract is up in May and with reports that the script isn't even close to finished it seems doubtful he'd re-sign. However, WW84 is a go, Aquaman made a ton of money, and the Birds of Prey film shows promise. With Shazam poised to be a minor hit I think they can turn their brand around. Marvel is also going to face a tough hurdle staying relevant and retaining their audience after Endgame; it's entirely possible they'll be dethroned as the kings of comic book movies.
But that's getting way ahead of myself.

The next phase of Marvel does concern me a bit, but we'll see how it goes in the future. To me, DC has nowhere to go but up, so I hope they can get their stuff together.
