“Things that Ought Not Walk” is a scenario for the All Flesh Must Be Eaten role playing game. This thread will be its home as we play-by-forum. As the GM of the game, I would like to follow these conventions while playing: 1) post as oft as you are able, try to post at least once daily. 2) I will post at least once daily. 3) No participation is expected from anyone on Saturday or Sunday, though, I will when time allows. 4) Die rolls will be infrequently required throughout the game. In order to be as fair as possible, we will use Irony Games' Dice Server www.irony.com/mailroll.htmlThis will allow you to request a die roll via web form and have it automatically email me a die result. Instructions for the form as as follows: How many dice? always select "1" How many sides? always "10" Nothing should be added - ever - we can do that here. Do not drop any rolls. Repeat the roll 1 time. describe the roll the best you can. Put in your email address and then mine as the optional email address: davidnoal@gmail.com -Only roll 1 time when asked, otherwise, I'll take the lowest roll. 5) OOC speech should be marked with ***. Example:
Carter is scared out of his wits. He turns to run away. ***can I run away from the zombie by the door?***
All other speech should be in-character. 6) You should not communicate with other players via PM during the game, for "in-game" stuff. I don't care if you talk about other stuff. 7) Let me know if you have any questions. Once all three players have checked in, we will begin.

It is Christmas Eve at about 4pm. You are in Webby's Diner, listening to a cheesy Christmas cartoon blaring over the fuzzy TV. It is 1982 and you are tired and cold. The diner is a small and of modular construction. It has had a single addition, a small office in the back. The front wall of the diner has windows that stretch from halfway up the wall to the ceiling and standing from inside the diner, looking out through the front glass one can see the gravel parking lot, a simple two lane street, a graveyard and the wooded hills beyond. It is snowing, but lightly and there is little in the way of traffic on the roads. Turning to the left the area contains three booths, with four seats each, and a small table with two chairs. Facing the rear of the diner, as though you had just entered, offers seats at the counter, a backdoor, a nearly complete view of the grill and food prep areas and a wall partition the extends from the floor to a foot short of the seven foot ceiling. Displayed upon the partition wall are several oil paintings, upon canvas, depicting a colonial era houses, lost in a dense fog. Behind the counter one sees standard kitchen equipment. Among them is a large griddle, a small gas stove, a small oven, a microwave, a lonely fryer, a fountain for dispensing carbonated drinks, stacks of plates, flatware, cups, saucers, and drinking glasses. The majority of the food appears to be stored in the cabinets, cooler, or freezer below the counter; all along the back wall. There is a nice set of three sharp knives on the counter. Facing to the left there are a few more booths and a pair of bathrooms that are labeled one for men and the other for women. There are four men in the diner. The first is the middle aged Webby, the owner-operator of the diner. Webby is a small man; he stands at only 5’ 2”. He wears a dirty white shirt which covers his round belly. He wears a small white apron which is also dirty. His teeth are small and round and his mouth seems displays them all, back to his molars, when he speaks. ***Please give a physical description of your (diner) characters and describe where you are sitting. You do not know each other.*** www.shoggoth.net/Servants/diner1.bmp

Sitting in the rear corner of the room is the young Carter Willson. He is dressed humbly in faded jeans and dirty white t-shirt. The black stains on his hands suggest that he is hard laboror, most likely involved with automotives. His unkempt, short brown hair reveal that he has grown weary on a road trip and he has pulled over for a cup of coffee to perk him up. Carter sits with his back to the room. His pondering blue eyes seem to peer out the window at his 1978 Ford Pinto Hatchback. It too shows signs that it has seen better days. He seems to be staring out there, but in fact is looking at the reflections in the window. Quietly he stirs his cup of coffee while he studies the people in the room. Someone that doesn't know him would think he was nothing, but a gas station attendant. At this point in Carter's life, that may be true. But Carter is also an intellectual and educated young man. He is analytical, always studying people and situations. Carter would sit facing the others eye to eye, but people tend to be more honest when they don't know they're being watched.

Ira Albright is sitting in the booth just to the left of the counter. He sits facing the counter next to wall, so he has a decent view of the whole diner. His long black trenchcoat drapes over the chair to his right, and his black beret sits on the table. He is wearing a black shirt with thick gray stripes along the chest. He also has on a pair of black slacks that hang over his tall black boots. His hair is brown and shoulder length. He is a decently attractive man. Except for his dark choice of clothing, he seems like an ordinary man who just wanted a quick bite to eat. He sips his coffee and listens around the room at the conversations that are happening.

The loudest sound in the room comes from the TV; where the Christmas Elves sing away...
Webby is in the back, fumbling with a box of trash bags.

Ira reaches down into his black carrier bag and pulls out a sketch book and piece of charcoal. He begins to sketch the diner, as he usually does when he's contemplating something. Maybe this picture would give him an idea, maybe it wouldn't. Either way, he felt the urge to draw. He looks around the room and gets a mental picture of where everyone is sitting and what's happening. Every once in a while, he looks up at the television, and chuckles at the childish cartoon playing. He reaches over to his beret and puts it on as if it helps him to think, a 'thinking cap' if you will. He continues to draw, but still tries to pay attention to everything that's happening.

Webby, appears from around the partition wall and looks around the diner wondering why these people don't have somewhere else to go... after all it is Christmas Eve.
Webby glanced at Ira sideways before he came over to the booth...
He says "So buddy, what are you having?" and looks down at his pad, disgusted.

Carter watches Webby turn his nose up to the other man's drawing. A very faint chuckle slips past his lips as he thinks to himself, "it must really suck, be offensive, or Webby just has no appreciation for art. I can't really blame the guy. What man sits in a roadside cafe making a charcoal sketch while wearing a berret? Oh well, maybe he's French. That's why I prefer the orient." Carter finishes his coffee and slips into coat. Quietly he puts his change on the counter and makes his way for the door. Carter is never in a rush, but he does have a wedding in which he must participate. He'll never get there if he just sits here all night in a nearly empty diner sipping coffee.

Somewhat disheveled in appearance, Joshua Peck sits by the counter on one of the bar stools, nursing a beer while he studies his notes. Writing a complete narrative from several short, if visceral, imaginings was the greatest difficulty posed in between him and his next book, as always. At lest there was no want for content; Pecks imaginings had been very vivid recently. The thought of which gave the writer more then enough reason to finish what was left of his beverage.

"I'll have a piece of apple pie," Ira says in a very annoyed voice. This man had no reason to judge his artwork. What could he do with charcoal and paper? Make a black mess? Probably. Either way, Ira had other things to do so he sat and waited on his pie.

"Sure, Fine." Webby grumbles almost to himself as he writes it on the pad.
He looks at Carter, then past him outside.
"Damn snow. It's really coming down out there now. Probably take me 20 mintutes to get the three blocks home..."
He arrives at Carter's table and blurts out: "Look, pal the kitchen closes here, in about 20 minutes. What do you want?"

Carter thinks for a moment to himself, 'I guess I'll something a little more filling. I hadn't counted on this snow. It looks like it might be a little before I get to eat again.' "I'll have the llasagna and another cup of coffee please." He says politely to the waiter. Webby seemed to be having a bad day and Carter was all too familiar with those. The waiter certainly wasn't the nicest he'd seen, but there was no need to make his day any worse.
