***Did I successfully grab the shotgun? I posted that I did, but I wasn't sure if I was able to or not.

Carter snapped out of his dazed fear only to be surprised by the zombies at the back door. He let out a short yell as he stepped back away from the undead and slammed the door shut. Quickly, Carter braced his shoulder against the door, expecting resistance, and slid one foot firmly against the bottom of the door to act as a door stop. ***(I have three older brothers and have successfully used this technique with my foot numerous times.)

***Let's see how strong Carter really is. Send me a roll.
***Beat a score of 9 with your STR x2 + the roll and you'll hold the door long enough to get it to latch securely, allowing it to be locked again.
***Ira still has the key, I think, and is standing right beside you.

***A total of 10. 3 StrX2=6 + roll of 4= 10. I win. Yay!

Carter slams shut the door, holding the three undead at bay, for now. Despite the thickness of the door Carter can feel their strength as they pound furiously trying to get in.

Carter leans his back against the wall for just a moment to catch his breath. "Webby!" He yells, "Is there another way out of here? This door is blocked!" Carter looks around the diner searching for his own exit, but sees nothing. If there isn't a safe way out, he might be forced to do something a little more drastic.

Webby shouts to Carter, "No, Damnit. Now help me with this table."
The undead are gathering near the front door, too.
In one fluid motion Peck tosses Ira the key and the back door is locked. Ira shoves the key in his pocket and moves to assist Webby and Carter with barricading the front door.
The old man begins talking to Peck, who is still caring for him. Despite Peck's best efforts to stop the bleeding the old t-shirt is soaked red.
His speech is labored and he pauses frequently for breath during it. Everyone is able to hear him, though as speech trails on the work lessens and even Webby stops at one point, struggling to hear the man.
"The expedition to the church was sponsored by the State government of Massachusetts, late in 1980. Local construction was planned on the site of the church; it was more than three-hundred years old at that time. The building had fallen into disrepair and was condemned long ago and in effort to revitalize the local economy a construction project was planned for the old hill-top site."
The man takes an extended breath, during which he watches the dead trying to get inside the diner.
"Since the church and the surrounding site was likely to be obliterated, or at least altered greatly by the construction, the state authorized a team from the local university to remove, catalogue, and preserve any artifacts and remains within the church and on the surrounding grounds. Of course I was selected and I assembled a team of interested grad students and began investigating the site."
It is obvious he is dying. The man begins to slump, slipping closer to death.
"It was Christmas Eve 1980 when we first entered the tunnels beneath the church. They were practically forced to do so: ASAP, by pressured by the University board, through the local and state governments. It was all politics originating with the construction company and I and my students were on the receiving end."
As he gasps out the last sentence, he sits straight up.
"That," he points out the window, through the snow, past the walking dead and up the hill at the end of the street, "That is the church."
***One more post (if you like) from anyone who wants it, but otherwise have a happy Thanksgiving. I'll post this weekend if I have the time, otherwise I will pick this up on Monday morning.***

"We've got to get to that church! And Fast!" Ira yelled. He knew the man was close to dead. He had seen plenty of death. This, like all the others, didn't bother him.

Grunting as he helped Webby with barricading the diner, Carter responded to Ira, "Good plan [grunt] but how [grunt] do you plan [grunt] d@mn it!" He cut his sentance short as he pushed a table against the door as the zombies fought back.

"It might just be me, but wouldn't it be better if we went away from said church? I my car isn't that far away and I hear that California has wonderful weather this time of year." Peck yelled, while still attending to the wounded man, using a belt as makeshift torniquet to stop the bleed.

"I have a Sedan parked right outside. This church seems like either the source of our problems, or the best place to be right now. At least at the church we'll be safer inside than we are here."

"Gah!" Carter grunts as he finishes placing the barricade. "At least there should be less windows and a little more space between us and them. I've got a car outside too. Should we split up? It'll make it harder for them to get us all." Carter states, but seems very unsure of his own plan. The fear of the last time he attempted an exit still grips his mind.
