Thing
------
"Yeah! I saw a rent-a-truck double park across the street," the newspaper vendor tells the Thing in a curious Yancy Street, New York accent. "You see, right in back of the Krupp building. Then a bunch of costumed freaks jumped out and headed into the building, knocking people out of the way. There were four of them. One was big and green, and another was green too, but he had a tail! I'm not kidding, a real live tail."
A crowd has gathered to listen to this man's story, and he appears to be hamming things up a bit due to all the attention. [It probably didn't take the Thing a whole 3 stones in Social Skils/Streetwise to tell him that, but it didn't hurt either.]
"I couldn't believe it! One was wearing a purple suit; he sort-of looked like a bug. But not like that wierdo," he points to Spider-Man. "This one was purple."
Thing & Spider-Man

[Now the newspaper seller has the wall-crawler's attention too.]
"The last guy at least looked normal. He wore a black uniform, like a janitor's maybe. A few minutes later it was like the whole building was coming apart."
"Everything happened so fast. I don't remember exactly, but some of them ran out or FLEW OUT with some stuff. Captain America was chasing after them. He flung that frisbee of his as the last one hopped into the truck. I thought Cap smashed the rent-a-truck up good, 'cause it stalled."
"Then some cannon gizmo BLASTED bizzarro rays out the back of the truck, and it took off! Before reaching the corner, the big green guy I told'ja 'bout first shot some freaky energy right from his hand. Next, a black lady fell from the sky! I kid you not. She was hot too, but looked like she was about to puke all over the road."
Most, if not all, of the crowd looks at the news-peddler with disbelief.
"I'm telling you the honest truth! You believe me, don't you Rock-Man?"

Captain Marvel

Fortunately, Captain Marvel is far enough away not to hear the newspaper vendor's comments concerning her nausea and hot-ness. She's busy scanning the scene once more for physical clues.
After some searching she finds a red high-heeled shoe by the statue behind the Krupp building. This piece of footwear sparks a memory from the earlier battle. When fighting the Beetle, Captain Marvel noticed a dark stain on Beetle's boots. Before she can continue pondering this, her thoughts are interrupted by a woman in one shoe breaking the police line.
"Thank you for finding my shoe." The woman says picking up the red high-heel shoe. "Oh, and for saving my life too." It is the same woman Captain Marvel helped rescue from the 4th story ledge. The shoe is a perfect fit and match for the one on the lady's other foot. She then heads back across the police line before crowd control can catch up to her.

Captain America heard the radio conversation and the officer's question, but was momentarily distracted by Bernie.
The clever Ms. Rosenthal caught Steve Rogers eye from a distance. She pointed at him, extended her picky fingers and thumb in a motion toward her mouth and ear, then moved her lips to say 'call me' without making a sound. She then lifted Steve's portfolio up (the one used to secretly store his shield) and walked away.
"Captain?" the police chief calls to him again. "Do you need me to recap the info from HQ about the license plate?"
Love does strange thing to a man... even one that's a super-soldier.

"Cap's got the licenses plate we need to find that truck!" Spider-Man calls out to the Thing, once the newspaper vendor finally finishes retelling the events from earlier that day. "Then it will be time to do that thing you do so well.... beat up the meanies."
Clobber. The Thing clobbers the meanies. Y'know, like in "It's Clobberin' Time!"? Web-head must have been focussing on his next wise-crack comment every time they team up to fight the supervillian threat of the hour. Maybe Spidey's just bitter about the last time the two of them met up. The Thing had been under mind control by the Puppet Master, Alicia Master's stepfather, and clobbered Spider-Man until Mr. Fantastic finally zapped him back to his senses with one of his gizmos. [Marvel Tales #198, the second story at the back of the book]

Spider-Man heads over to Captian America.

No sooner than Spider-Man asks for leads, does Captain Marvel appear to offer one. "Hey Cap! You know the Beetle had a dark stain on one of his boots," the lady Avenger says reverting out of her energy form. "Maybe that can help us pinpoint our Rent-A-Truck destination?..." Captain Marvel trails off with uncertainty.
Standing with Captain America is a police chief. He says, "A disaster control room has been set up in the office of the Hotel Caire across Cleveland Street. You heroes are welcome to use those facilities if you need them."

Ben doesn't have weblines he can use to cross the distance between the crowd and the heroes talking to the police chief quickly like web-head does. Plus, this newspaper guy is talking his ear off. Wait a minute. The Thing doesn't have any ears.

"What is the set up like over at the hotel, chief?" Captain Marvel asks.
"It's nothing like your Avengers mansion," the police captain admits. "They've set up some desks with phones, a copier and even a fax machine. Some basic crime scene analysis equipment was brought in as well."
The man turns his head to shift eye contact from Captain Marvel to Captain America, but addresses all three heroes present. "The team I radioed in is at the station. They're still checking if that plate you found is registered to a stolen vehicle. If it was, then we'd know which Rent-A-Truck office it came from. If not, then unfortunately your guess is as good as ours."
"Does anyone have a sample of the goo on Beetles foot?" Spider-Man asks. "I could possibly analize it. Maybe find out what it is and where it's from."
Captain Marvel was the only one who saw the stain, and she didn't get a sample.
[Spider-Man heals up 1 Health point. Now that he has more Health, he also has more stones of Energy to spend on Actions like Social Skills or straight to an Ability like Intelligence to possibly improve the results of his posts.]

Not much to go on. Captain Marvel straightens. She stands between the man who brought her to the Avengers; Spider-Man and one of the Avengers mainstays and probably the greatest hero of all time; Captain America, " Sorry Spidey, I couldn't get a sample of the goo,"Captain Marvel answered Spider-Man's question.I wonder what that stain was? "Well, what do you think guys," Captain Marvel asks," Should we do some research at the hotel?"

*Ben Having gotten all the info he could fromt he vendor heads back over to the gathering group of heros. His large form is hard to manuever in the crowd. Ben wonders why he couldn't have gotten some cool type of transportation like Spider Boy's web, or Capt. America's Shield.... All he did get was a freak look.*
* Ben tries his best to listen to try and to hear what the group is saying as he makes his way towards them.*

"Well, what do you think guys," the Thing hears Captain Marvel ask Spider-Man and Captain America as he lumbers towards them. "Should we do some research at the hotel?"
Captian Marvel still wonders what that stain was she saw on Beetle's boots. It was very dark, it could have been black, and looked like it was still wet. Some of that goo might have left a print. If only she knew if the Beetle had set foot on the ground anywhere outside of the damaged Krupp building lobby. However, the whole time Captain Marvel saw him, the Beetle was flying. Well, until he zipped into the truck and presumably was the one firing that wave-disruptor cannon at her and Captain America.

Spiderman lost in thought turns to face them.
"You guys go ahead I wanna take one more look around make sure we didn't miss anything. I'll be along soon."
Rembering the licsense plate he found there was some black goo near it maybe nothing but it might be worth another try.
Action : 5 stones into INT to look for more clues.and get a sample of the goo near the plate.

Captain America hears Captain Marvel's question, but is not yet prepared to respond. If Doctor Octopus, Radioactive Man, Beetle, Fixer and Scorpion are all working together, they must be plotting something big. The Radioactive Man and the Beetle were recently working with the Masters of Evil in a plot to defame Hank Pym and then force him into building a longevity machine for them. That group was lead by Egghead. This new threat is lead by Doctor Octopus. What would he be after?... and why would he steal schematics and a Selectropack from a suit of Mandroid battle armor?
Wait a minute. Captain America is probably the only one who heard Radioactive Man taunt, "Doctor Octopus will reward me richly for ridding the world of you." The others seem to have made this connection, but sharing this information will help to confirm it.

The Thing's stomach growls. He should have eaten that pretzel he got as a reward from saving Aldo the pretzel vendor from those young toughs. Maybe the N.Y.P.D. have a box of doughnuts back at the hotel... or maybe even a pizza.
Is that why he's hungry, or is it depression? The Thing let that jerk Scorpion get away. He chucked him down a three story deep hole in the ground created by Radioactive Man, but the Scorpion got up and bashed his way into the New York City sewer system. The Thing was the only one that saw him escape that way. Maybe he'd feel better if he fessed up to it and let the others know what happened.

As Spider-Man looks for more clues, his mind recalls something that the newspaper vendor said.
Captain America was chasing after them. He flung that frisbee of his as the last one hopped into the truck. I thought Cap smashed the rent-a-truck up good, 'cause it stalled.
Well, Captain America's shield toss would explain how the license plate fell off the truck, and the glass and the oily substance he found might be just that... oil. but what was it he said just before that?
I don't remember exactly, but some of them ran out or FLEW OUT with some stuff.
This newspaper man was very descriptive in his story telling. Spider-Man missed the first half of his tale, but wonders why the focus on how some of them "FLEW" when they exitted the Krupp building? He said it with such surprise, as it they didn't fly into the Krupp building as well.
Spider-Man finds the oily substance he was looking to get a sample of, but now needs a container of some kind.
However, if what Captain Marvel said is correct, his attention might be better placed between the oil spill and the front door.
Beetle probably tracked that goo everywhere he walked.

Captain Marvel looks to Captain America for leadership. It's kind of odd that the Wasp is the Avengers chairperson, when Captain America is such a natural leader. However, she read the Avengers charter herself and understands that chairperson has been a position many Avengers have had the honor to take. Maybe she'll be chairperson too one day?
A new thought then crosses Captain Marvel's mind. This morning, the Avengers Mansion computer detected a large amount of gamma radiation in Rathbone Park. Captain Marvel then asked the N.Y.P.D. to evacuate the vicinity. Are there still HAZMAT experts on the scene? What might they have learned about this radiation? Could it help them locate the villains?

" Hey Chief!" Captain Marvel suddenly called out," I called in that evac at Rathorne Park this morning, is there still Hazmat out there? Did they find anything?" Captain Marvel begins to direct her to Captain America and the Thing to fill them in," Avenger Mansion detected a large amount of gamma radiation at Rathorne Park. I called the brass here to evacuate the park. Maybe Radioactive Man had something to do with that." Captain Marvel smiled. She's the new girl on the block, but she knows what's up.

Spidy can always count on the citizens of New York to help him when he needs it. He looks over into one of the trash cans but doesn't see what he needs than he checks the alley and spots a cup from Mickey d's. Perfect! He emptys the cup yuck thank goodness he has gloves,and uses the top to scrap the oily stuff inside the cup. When he thinks he got enough to anaylize he heads back to the other heros.
action: 1 stone to technologhy to make sure he has enough to study.
