Spider-Man knows that Squids is less than ten blocks away. However, it's approaching 5 P.M. and Peter Parker should buy a present for Ned Leeds before 6 P.M. If he shows up gift-less at 9:30 AM tomorrow, then the Daily Bugle staff may think Peter still holds a grudge for Ned and a torch for Leed's wife, Betty Brant.
Captain America also has an appointment at 6 P.M., attending a veterans' benefit dinner. If there is one behavior that Rogers can not stand, it's a lack of punctuality. It would be especially shameful to commit this grievous tardiness, or worse yet absenteeism, when military heroes from past wars are counting on his prompt attendance.
If the Thing can scare up a taxi in this rotten neighborhood right now, he can make that 5 P.M. dedication of the new hospital wing. However, he decides to go to the waterfront first, he can forget it, along with the superstar treatment he recieves from the staff at the hospital where Alicia is.
The only one without an appointment this evening is Captain Marvel. Perhaps that's why she's so eager to go bar hopping at Happy Hour. She has to be in New Orleans tomorrow at 10 A.M though, so she'll have to limit how many Hurricanes she drinks. (Oh yeah, this is New York, not the Big Easy. Bars don't serve Hurricanes here.)

---------------Captain America arrives on time to honor America's veterans at the Benefit dinner at 6 p.m.. However, the dinner lasts until 9:30 p.m. and he promised to meet the other heroes at Squid's bar at 7:30 p.m.. Also, when Bernie Rosenthal left Steve at the Krupp Building, she asked for him to call her. Doctor Octopus is a threat that Captain America can deal with, but the wrath of his own girlfriend is not a force that even Steve Roger's indestructible shield can protect him from. By the time he's picked up it's already rush hour! Ben gets to the hospital late, real late. As he hustles toward the ceremony, he regrets that he'll also have to leave early too. The reception afterwards won't be over until 8 p.m., but he's meeting Web-Head and the Captains 2 at 7:30 p.m.. "...and now to introduce our honored guest for the evening," the Thing hears an announcer speaking as he approaches the crowd. "A member of the famous Fantastic Four, who we were fortunate to find among our visitors here at the hospital. Please give a warm welcome to....." Ben sees it, but he doesn't believe it. --------------Captain Marvel receives some strange looks and unwelcome gestures as she walks toward the waterfront. As a Harbor Patrol officer, Monica was used to this kind of seedy neighborhood. She would be wearing an officer's uniform then, but surprising the reaction was about the same. In jest she told the others she was going to scope the area out for any warehouses by a gas station, but the more she thinks about it, Spider-Man's oil was probably not what was on the sole of the Beetle's foot. Captain Marvel is the only one who saw that dark splotch, and it seemed to have a different viscosity than oil. There is the bar up ahead. Should Captain Marvel enter in costume? Should she wait for the others? No one knows that Captain Marvel is Monica Rambeau, not even her fellow Avengers, and Monica would like to keep it that way. Hmmm, if this was Mardi Gras in New Orleans, she could enter in costume and no one would bat an eyelash. Spiderman sees oh fuzzy. “Great it’s never a swimsuit model running in front of large delivery trucks.”
He lets go of one web jerking his body around he fires another and starts to zip towards fido. “This is going to be close.” he thinks.
Action 1: 7 stones to web-slinging to save fido seconds before the truck gets him!
Action 2: 2 strength to make sure I grab him good and don’t let go.

Captain Marvel -------------- Captain Marvel finds a clothing store and purchases something very 80's to change into. She now looks like a black version of Jennifer Beals in the 1983 movie Flashdance. Monica needed the baggy sweatshirt to conceal her wavy costume. Her mask is discreetly stuffed in a leg warmer. Squid's bar awaits. Captain Marvel's Health 2/3 Captain Marvel's Energy 3/9 Thing ----- Alicia's room is cool and dark and silent but for the soft breathing of her small, bandaged figure. Alicia would probably be very happy to know Ben was there, if she wasn't all doped up on pain-killers. Ben got Alicia Masters the best doctor there is, his uncle, Dr. Jake Grimm. [see The Thing #2] Still, the Thing can't shake the desire to do even more for her. She's like this because Annhilus attacked and he wasn't there to protect her. Like this because she was babysitting for Franklin Richards at the Baxter Building. Like this because she's Ben Grimm's girlfriend. Like this because he's the Thing. [Suffering Occasional Bouts of Depression is one of the Thing's Challenges, used to improve the number of Character Generation Stones used for his stats. Aunt May must be all worried about her nephew Peter Parker. As Spider-Man, Peter told his sweet old Aunt May that Peter Parker would meet him at her home. That was hours ago! At times like this it would be convenient if May were just a tad bit senile so she wouldn't notice Peter was gone. Oh well. So far only the salad has been served. Looking down at his program, he sees that there is an intermission coming up. After giving his speech and listened to some of the stories, Cap had to call Bernie, or ells there would be dire consequenses to follow... He went over to the man in charge of this gathering so he could announce that he would be leaving. "Excuse me, but i have to leave you all. Im sorry to be leaving, but ive been on the track off a dangerous villain, and i dont want to loose him."
After that, Steve went looking for a phone so he could make a call and get in contact with Bernie... [OOC: If she answers....] "Hello Bernie"

But perhaps he could help by making her better again. It was a small consolation, but it was the only piece of mind he would get for now. *

There are roughly 20 patrons at Squid's bar, most of which are men who leer at Monica Rambeau like she's a piece of meat. From their grins it's apparent that dentistry is not very popular on this side of town. (Apparently niether are barber shops, laundromats or showers.)
The bartender serves the incognito Captain Marvel the rum and cola she ordered and then helps the next patron at the bar. Inspecting the drink it appears to be mostly ice, a little cola and even less rum. Both liquids are of extremely poor quality, as is the ice, which has a translucent brownish-yellow hue. At least the pretzels look decent... until a roach crawls out of the snack bowl. [FYI: This website translates "c o c k roach" into "wee weeroach" when it's previewed.]
At least Ms. Rambeau killed some time shopping for clothes. It's past 6:30 p.m. and the others should be there to share in the ambiance of Squid's bar in just under an hour.

"Hello Bernie."
"Steve!" Bernie answers. She then checks if it's okay to call him that, before she continues. It hasn't been long since Steve Rogers shared with his girlfriend that he is Captain America. Well, she kind of figured it out on her own. Her intelligence is one of her many amazing qualities.
Bernie reminds Steve that she has his portfolio case stuffed with the civilian clothing he was wearing at the park. She isn't pleased that Steve will be out late, and insists on staying up until he does finally come home.
After the call, Captain America is informed that this will be the last year he will be asked to be a guest at this dinner. The host believes that a better tribute to these veterans would be an honored guest who would put celebrating them above all else.
[Note: Captain America is receiving such a poor response from Bernie and the host because no red stones of Energy were spent in Social Skills or any other action to garner a more favorable result. Please remember to spend stones when you want situations to go your way... which is pretty much always.]

Ben passes the room where Franklin Richards is staying on his way out. Reed and Sue are still there, worried sick about their son. It looks like neither one has left the hospital since last night.
Should the Thing go speak to them, maybe they can help with this Octopus issue? Or should Ben just leave them be, because they have enough to worry about already? Annhilus not only beat up Alicia, but he tortured poor little Franklin too. It's enough to make anyone's blood boil, especially Frankie's own Uncle Ben.

Spider-Man realizes he can't go battling supervillians while lugging around a birthday present. However, if he stops at Aunt May's to make an appearance as Peter Parker AND stops off at his apartment to drop off Ned's gift, he'll be late for his 7:30 PM appointment with the others. Parker has a suspicion that Captain America does not like to be kept waiting.
