A young man makes one last pilgrimage to the campus of New York City's Empire State University. His name is Peter Parker. He was once a promising graduate student here. He is a student no longer. Parker's life was just getting too hectic. He needs his freelance photog job for the Bugle... and he just couldn't give up being Spider-Man!Peter only hopes he's not slamming the door on his science career. He's just taking a break. He'll go back to school. Sure, he will... "Cleaning out your locker, Pete?" A couple male classmates.... no, ex-classmates approach Peter by his locker in the otherwise empty hallway. "I guess this is so long," the other friend says. Spider-Man's Health: 4/4 Spider-Man's Energy: 12/12

Peter tries to stay upbeat, but his voice seemed to lack conviction even to himself. He finishes clearing out his locker, then replies, "Well you know... I've just got other things to take care of right now. It's been nice knowing you guys. Maybe I'll see you around..."
He could tell by their faces that they don't really understand. Who would? He barely understood it himself. He could easily ace any science test the University put before him, if he just had enough time to himself to study. But no, he had to worry about paying the bills, working, fighting crime, and taking care of Aunt May whenever he could get a spare moment.
Peter Parker spun on his heel and with a heavy heart started trudging his way off the ESU campus. He mused to himself as he walked. Power and responsibility, huh? If only Uncle Ben knew what he was asking of me. Well maybe he did at that. Slams his fist into a nearby tree trunk. It's just not fair Uncle Ben. Why did you have to leave us? Why didn't I stop that guy, when I had the chance... Peter's eyes moistened with his frustration, but somewhere, somehow it seemed he had forgotten how to cry. Peter was so absorbed in his own thoughts that he unexpectedly bumped into someone.
"I'm sorry," muttered Peter as he straightened up and took stock of his surroundings.

[OOC: I really loved that last post, but this one takes place before Petey leaves his friends to go outside.] "...Maybe I'll see you around..." "That's what they all say, Peter," a harsh female voice chastises from behind our hero, "and then, years later, they wake up to find they have nothing but lost opportunities" "Ah, Marcy Kane," Peter Parker's black student-friend responds, "Ms. Sympathy! I'm sure Pete feels bad enough about his decision without you hassling him!" "Peter, you could have had a promising career as a biophysicist!" Marcy scolds. "How could you just toss that aside?" Peter tried not to roll his eyes, but he guessed that he was unsuccessful because of the way Marcy was glaring at him with her hands on her hips. Sheesh, this is hard enough, and now this. The sad thing is that she has a point.
Peter eyed Marcy Kane warily before replying, "My promising career, as you put it is dead because of two things, money and time, two things that I don't have enough of to continue studying here. You may think you know me, but you don't. I need to put some other things ahead of my education right now. God knows, I don't want to, but that's just how it is. Good day, Miss Kane."
With that Peter turned on his heel and continued on his way. The look of consternation on Miss Kane's face after the abrupt way he talked to her, left him with little real satisfaction. The truth is depressing sometimes. What's so great about the truth, anyways? All it does is hurt.

As Peter Parker leaves, Marcy Kane mourns the loss of the potential she'd seen in him, for reasons she has never expressed to another living soul.
[OOC: Okay, now Parker can go all Emo and punch a tree, as stated in the previous post. Until...]
A sleek Ferrari swings into the ESU parking lot. A moment later the driver steps out and approaches Parker.
"Hey, pal! Can you point the way to the Physics Building? I'm looking for a young lady, a grad student by the name of Marcy Kane!"
[OOC: Well that at least answers one of your questions. Marcy Kane is a grad student. The answer to the other is that Peter and Marcy already briefly dated, but Spider-Man's current love is the Black Cat, who's in the hospital recovering from wounds suffered in a battle against Doctor Octopus. Paying Felicia's (The Black Cat's) medical bills is one reason why Pete has to quit school.]

Peter gives the Ferrari's driver a closer look. "Who's asking, and what do you want with her?" Even in his current funk, Parker is wary of directing this complete stranger to his friend's location. He observes the driver more closely to see if his next answer is truthful or not. I've had enough people around me get hurt lately, I don't need to add another to the list. Who is this rich creep?

"My name's Jack. Marcy and I went to undergrad together at New Haven College. I just want to see her again."
It's hard to tell if the guy is lying because he's wearing dark sunglasses that hide his eyes. However, from the tone of his voice, he sounds like he's telling Peter the truth.

"You're in luck then, Jack. Marcy is... was a classmate of mine. I'll take you to see her myself." If she acts like she knows him, it'll probably be safe to leave them together. I've got to go sell these photos but... Uncle Ben would still be here, if I had taken the extra time to take care of somebody when I could have. With that Peter leads the man to see Marcy at the ESU physics building.

Peter Parker's spider-sense is reacting to this guy, but why? So Parker decides to escort the stranger across campus, even though he's supposed to visit the Black Cat at the hospital. Well, Marcy is definitely acting like she knows Jack. Spider-Man's Health: 4/4 Spider-Man's Energy: 12/12

For some reason, Jack caused Peter's spider-sense to tingle. Although this is an awkward scene, he waits to see what develops, but positions himself close by Marcy's shoulder in case anything strange happens. Peter attempts diplomacy, although he is hardly confident that it will meet with much success. "Why don't we all just calm down, everyone. Marcy, err, are you going to be alright? This guy said he knew you..."

"Jack told you he knew me!" Marcy stews, angered by the biblical context of what Peter just said. Whoa! Peter is distracted from this little live action soap opera by another even stronger alarm from his Spider-Sense! This one coming from outside of classroom 814. While Marcy's attention was focused on Jack, Peter slips out into a nearby vacant classroom where he dons his red and blue spider costume. He then moves towards where his spider-sense is telling him the danger is coming from.

Spider-man cautiously peeks into the room before entering unconventionally. "I've heard the expression, it's raining men, but this is ridiculous," cracks Peter as he looks for the source of the flying metal men.
