BACKGROUND Known to friends as Ellis-Til, Ellis, or even Ellie, and to her more superstitious enemies as the Angel of Ruin, Pyroclasm is a gifted Kree special military operative with a catastrophic mutagenic energy power.
At the age of 13 she obliterated her childhood home and a wide swath of the surrounding area after her mother forbade her from seeing an older Human boy. Her pet mastiff, Golbez, was killed in the blast, though her parents were not at home, and no one else (other than herself) was injured.
Psychic neurologists placed a psychic limiter within her subconsciousness that prevents her from using her "Calamity Blast" at full strength, but as she grew into adulthood the power became impossible to control and special bracers were designed to contain and safely diffuse the devastating energies inside her. With these bracers she can control the immense power. Without them, her Calamity Blast rages at full strength for as long as it is able and destroys everything it touches.
At age 19 Ellis-Til fled from her home and disappeared as far as her friends and family knew. She enlisted in the Kree military service. Her unique and destructive power made her an attractive candidate for shock troop activity, but she revealed a keen intellect and an aptitude for subtlety which eventually placed her as a qualified black ops agent.
After several years in the field, Ellis-Til was able to enjoy a quieter life, and even return to spend time with her family, who recently had been elevated in the Kree political status. Though she continued to take part in various missions, she also tarried in high society and political venues. Superior officers have often remarked at her ability to quickly and easily adapt to her environment, and upon how positively her family's political status has impacted her field acumen.

BACKGROUND Ishtar was subject to an ancient precursor to the modern day Super Soldier serum first developed in Egypt. The serum increased his physical durability beyond even peak human levels and allowed him to imbue objects with his personal bio-electricity, but it afflicted him with terrible degenerative disorder that would have quickly killed him.
For years Ishtar and his family members searched for a cure, but medical healing could offer him no solace. Using up most of his family's considerable wealth the services of a powerful Wizard were purchased. The Wizard was able to prevent the further degeneration of his body, effectively curing him, but the rigors of the process left him vulnerable to heat and cold.
So impressed was Ishtar with the Wizard's skill that he volunteered his services as an apprentice, which were accepted. Ishtar and the Wizard, Kartalmus, embarked on countless adventures recovering legendary treasures and battling mythic creatures and forces. In the course of these adventures Ishtar obtained some combat and magical prowess, while Kartalmus' wizardry swelled to the point that he became the age's Sorcerer Supreme. However, in their disastrous battles the last of Ishtar's family was killed, and Kartalmus was hurled through a dimensional rift.
It is uncertain how long Ishtar has lived, or why he doesn't age as a normal human, but the ancient Super Soldier serum, the Wizard's magical cure, or any number of supernatural effects he was eventually exposed to are surely to blame. Through the years Ishtar has continued to develop his sword and sorcery, with a particular emphasis on magical teleportation. In the modern age he has set his formidable mind upon the cutting edge of technological advancement.

BACKGROUND Gabriel has the type of near-genius intellect that expands his brain power horizontally rather than vertically, which is to say that rather than being staggeringly brilliant within a single or few fields, he is impressively proficient in a wide variety of skills, jobs, and hobbies. True, he may appear to be unimposing, and if he's not taking an action seriously he may appear to be a bit incompetent; however, if Gabriel takes care and focuses his mind on a task he proves to be surprisingly adept.
Extraordinaire has an allergic reaction to just about everything you could think of. Well, allergic reaction is an interesting way to put it. You see, instead of his body releasing antihistamines in response to allergens it releases adrenaline. Because of this his body operates at slightly above peak human levels and suffuses itself with exceptional resilience and naturally recovers from damage much quicker than a normal person.
Now, the human body doesn't just produce a limitless supply of adrenaline. In order to keep up this constant stream of energy Gabriel needs to eat. A lot. He's become a talented chef, partly out of genuine interest, partly out of necessity. When he can't just constantly devour tasty treats of his own making he carries little morsels of concentrated proteins, sugars, and acids.

His grandfather was a well decorated military physician as well as a successful salesman, his grandmother a caregiver in a nursing home. His father left a week after his mother knew she was pregnant with him. His father had been an intelligent, although unremarkable office worker; his mother got by with odd jobs to care for her sons. She remarried when Cormac was 8yrs old and would have two more children from then until now. Cormac and his older brother, Roy, a mutant with an activated gene, raised each other at least half the time and maintain a close relationship. Both boys displayed gifted intelligence, but Cormac has an aptitude for language, writing, and social sciences, while Roy is stronger with math, science, and engineering. Both boys developed anger problems for whatever reasons, but while Roy took his out on his mother and grandparents, Cormac did his best to hold it in. Neither are proving to be very healthy or useful ways of dealing with it. The most important lesson Cormac has learned was from his grandmother, and that was "never let anyone control you." Cormac took this to heart. Even though he was small and quiet, he never let anyone push him around, never let anyone tell him what to do. Including his own family. It was almost expected of him to focus on his studies instead of relationships (friendly or romantic), become a doctor, and then take care of his family. Well, he grew to resent the life that was expected of him, and escaped into cartoons, movies, and fiction literature. Even as a child, Cormac was more of a loner. He kept to himself, not necessarily because he disliked people, but more probably because he simply preferred to keep his own company. He was and remains a deep thinker. His distance and introspection has helped him develop traits he prides himself on - his ability to read people and situations, and his attention to detail. He keeps mental notes of all kinds of things like facial expressions, tone of voice, entrances and exits of rooms, objects within a room, animal impulses, and what all of these things mean. These notes have served him well in growing up enabling him to float around as a social butterfly and wield sharp wit. He's popular enough with his peers he just doesn't get too close with many of them. Cormac's similarities with his brother Roy worries his mother, because Roy's mutation, once triggered, awakened animal instincts, rage, and senses. Cormac thinks his mom worries too much - about everything. He's confident that his mutant gene, if it triggers at all, will produce something completely different. Cormac is cool under pressure, confident, courageous, even noble. He often remarks that he taught himself how to be a man through the strong, virtuous male characters in the stories he reads and movies he watches. He is inspired perhaps most by heroes like Captain America that value personal freedom, honesty, and resolve above all else. Even as young as he is he has on more than one occasion shown great leadership potential, rallying children against bullies and always striving to stand on the moral high ground.

BACKGROUND Ares is the son of Zeus, monarch of the Olympian Gods, and his wife Hera. Ares was worshiped as the god of war in both ancient Greece and ancient Rome. After the rise of Christianity in the Roman Empire, Zeus allowed the worship of the Olympians to die out, and Ares was no longer allowed to act as patron god of warriors. As a result over the ensuing centuries Ares grew increasingly dissatisfied with Zeus' rule. He has tried to conquer Olympus on several occasions sometimes in league with his uncle Pluto, god of the Olympian underworld. His half-brother Hercules has opposed his attempts at conquest almost every time sometimes with the help of his allies including Thor the Asgardian god of thunder, and the Avengers. Ares has hated Hercules since Hercules killed Ares' monstrous Stymphalian birds during Hercules' original twelve labors.
Ares has fought the Avengers on numerous occasions, as well as his half-brother Hercules. Ares has also fought the Champions, the Eternal Ikaris and a variety of other denizens of Earth. Recently warriors from the East have attacked Olympus and the Olympians have sought the assistance of Ares. Ares who had retired from warfare and the life of the gods has only recently joined the battle due to the kidnapping of his son.
Having saved his son, Ares has since joined with various American superhuman forces, working for a time with Tony Stark's Avengers, the Fifty State Initiative, and most recently with Norman Osborn's Avengers. Ares keeps a close eye on his son who is now in the care (and employ) of Nick Fury, with whom Ares has met on more than one occasion. Ares and Nick aren't playing on exactly the same side, but their teams aren't in open opposition, and neither bares the other particular ill will. Ares isn't the biggest fan of Norman Osborn as a person, but bringing order and power to America agrees with his warrior sensibilities. For now their goals are aligned. It will be an interesting day when Ares decides that they are aligned no more.
