At least blind people who enjoy Daredevil would be spared the horror of some of his previous costumes... (as an Iron Fist fan, I often wish I didn't have to look at the crap he wears) " WHAT do you mean he's dressed in yellow?"

Yellow and brown...

Yellow and brown... Exactly. You know what's funny? I really don't care if Spider-Man is black. It's weird, but not the end of the world for me. I would still go see the movie and maybe Glover would surprise me. That's got me thinking. So stop me if we have already gone down this road, but here are some characters I would not want to see black. Hulk: I am too much of a fan boy and like my Bruce Banners white as sour cream. Batman: I don't think I'd let this one slide Superman: We actually got a black Superman, played by Robert Townsend in Hollywood Shuffle, so I'm cool with this one Professor X: He's just too cool as a white bald guy Thor: This is for multiple reasons, but mainly because Thor is supposed to be Nordic. Any that you can think of?

Uh... "anybody who is currently white" lands in that category for me.
What really pisses me off about this entire situation is, I can guarantee that we will NEVER have this conversation about whether its acceptable to change the race of Luke Cage or the gender of Wonder Woman. Yet people can't seem to grasp how its equally racist to change the background of Spider-Man.

If you take a "token" black character and make them white it, just doesn't work. Luke Cage was a product of blaxploitation. Can you imagine a white African running around calling himself Black Panther? I would be cool with a white Storm, but that would be weird too. What would you call Black Lightning? White Lightning? People would think he's a soft drink.

White Lightning? People would think he's a soft drink. Isn't that the cheap cider? I thought that was discontinued after the makers got fed up with the popular image of tramps gulping it down and then falling over drunk on a park bench. The more you know...

In the U.S., "white lightning" was a common name for moonshine.

What exactly about Luke Cage says he has to be black? Because he grew up a poor kid in the inner city and joined a gang? How racist is that. You mention that he was created due to blaxploitation. I say so what? Peter Parker was created white for a reason too (believe it or not, there were black characters at the time...). If its acceptable to change the race of one, its acceptable to change the race of all.
A white Black Panther. You mean The Phantom, from whom Black Panther was very blatantly ripped off? There are characters who are white, and have "Black" in their character name. Just because his name is "Black Panther" doesn't mean he has to be a black dude.
The fact of the matter is that race is an important part of who we are, whether we like to admit it or not. There's absolutely nothing wrong with saying that it's different to be black than it is to be white. The problem comes when one group tries to claim superiority. There's nothing inherently wrong with acknowledging difference.
By the reverse, there is something very wrong with trying to force sameness on all races. A lack of racial identity has been linked to numerous psychological and emotional problems. Humans have a deep-seated need to know where we come from.
Peter Parker is a white guy. Luke Cage is a black guy. It's made them both who they are. I like them both (or rather, I did like Spider-Man. Until Brand New Day. Now I could care less). Let's just let them be who they are and move on.

Ah, The Toy. What a great flick. The best. I saw that movie when i was a kid. I wanted my very own Black Spider-Man. Black Spider-Man. Sounds like a good name for a funk band.

*shrug* I'd just be interested to see how the character would be re-tooled to work in a different ethnicity in the same way that I like hearing creative and totally different covers of popular songs. When done well, they can really show someone's creative mettle and offer an interesting new perspective on an old classic and, when done poorly, they're pretty easy to ignore.

Yeah, I think it would be interesting, too, but it isn't really what I want. Earlier, I made the comparison to Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker being the quietest Spider Man I've ever seen. I can't remember any quips at all. It's still an interesting Spidey, and I enjoyed the first two movies, but it isn't the optimal Spidey that I want to see. (Likewise, I wanted to see dangerously aggressive black costume spidey, and instead I got emo haircut midlife crisis spidey. Sadface.) Tag on the irritation of knowing that they'd be changing his race just cuz, and I end up feeling wishy-washy about it all.
It's sorta like bringing your car in to get serviced, and finding out that, in addition to fixing your car, they put racing stripes on it for free. And yeah, maybe it looks neat, but I don't want racing stripes. I liked my car the way it was, I just wanted what I asked for.
It would be neat to see who else they would race-swap. Aunt May and/or Uncle Ben? (A black Uncle Ben? There's a rice joke in there somewhere..) What about MJ?
