Oh, shush. Thor will be AWESOME. It has to be. Because...because it will suck if it's not. I just really really want this to be good. All the other Marvel movies can blow, but this one must rock.
Normally I'm blasé about new movies. If I like it it's usually because I had low expectations to begin with. Unfortunately, I've gotten my hopes waay up for this one, so we'll see...

Well, given that the last 3 Spider-Man movies were mediocre at best, and the casting of this new one is almost as bizarre as it was the first time around, I'm not exactly holding my breath for it to be good.
As far as Thor... screw all of you Thor fans. No, seriously. Cap gets screwed by every new writer who comes along, and then the movie gets cast with somebody who looks more like a stand-up comedian than a super hero, and the script is being written by a hardcore left-wing lunatic.
If Cap can't be good, then all of you fans of other heroes have to suffer too.

My prediction is that Thor will be stupid, but it will get around 65-70% at Rotten Tomatoes, mostly because Chris Whateverhisname is hot, and most people have very low expectations for a movie about a 70s comic book version of Thor. Most reviews will lazily say that the CG was hit and miss, the acting was bland, and that it wasn't Iron Man or The Dark Knight, but it entertained them, so 3/5 stars, and then some throw-away paragraph mentioning the racial casting fiasco without actually saying anything of interest.
I predict that Cap's movie will be slightly better, but will get worse grades because people are sensitive about WWII movies, the world is generally weary of war, and the trailer won't have as many shots of the lead actor shirtless. It will still break even and then some, but will ultimately be forgotten, and producers will immediately begin to pressure Joss Whedon to re-shoot the Avengers with more Iron Man, and less Cap. But he probably won't because he's Joss Fucking Whedon.

After the whole Air Bender thing, I'm almost scared to ask... but what racial casting fiasco? (The rest of your post I think was generally dead on, except about the Cap movie being better... I expect it'll be about the same)

Idris Elba (if you know him, it's probably as Stringer Bell from The Wire) was cast as Heimdall. He's also black. There was some uproar about there being a black Norse deity. I have to say, it's pretty stupid.

When you live in a world where the political Left dominates every form of media besides talk radio, and you're not on the Left, it gets a little frustrating trying to find forms of entertainment, because the people that produce it assume that everyone shares their worldview. There's a great book called Arrogance by Bernard Goldberg who is, himself, pretty far to the Left. That being said, there's a difference between being to the Left and being on the extreme Left (just as there is with being Right or extreme Right). The people responsible for the Marvel movies, and Joss Whedon while we're on the subject, are extreme leftists. So at the end of the day, my answer to your original question would be "a whole lot of things, but to keep this thread on track I'm just going to say that what I meant is this; it's not a lot of fun to sit through a 2 hour Left Wing rant starring a guy wearing a uniform made out of a flag that's supposed to represent all of us, not just those with one, very limited, viewpoint"

I have to say, it's pretty stupid. ~TWF Who... cares? I mean if it were Thor I'd be right there in line to complain. Not because I have a problem with black actors but because Thor is the main character and he ain't black. But this is like casting Sam Jackson as Nick Fury (arguably less stupid, because Idris Elba may not mail it in), and I haven't heard a lot of complaints about that... I do think there is a "fair point" argument to be made by the reverse though. If they cast a minor character who is traditionally black with a white actor, people would pitch a fit. I guess the business of being professionally offended is universal.

Wow, I love being condescended to. It's right up there on my list, right next to when my wife asks me one of those questions that I can't answer properly without starting a fight, and I can't not answer without starting a fight.

Does my forum avatar make me look fat?
EDIT: And sorry, I didn't mean to come off as condescending, though in retrospect I can see how it could be seen that way. Internet and all. I've just come to appreciate your views over the years, where once they just frustrated me. I've been posting here for so long that this place feels like home sometimes, and it makes me happy when I see a post that so characteristic of the kind of conversations we usually have.
