Pitched a rough concept for a cleric: He's a mad ascetic who spews nonsense about the coming apocalypse and tries to convince people to repent. Working with DK to firm it up, but I think we have our slightly deranged healer.

I think she falls under "Craft Golem" Is "Hawt" a golem type??? Okay, occasionally hot, occasionally hideous. Like the witch that one Knight of the Round Table married...

Ok, so I won't go Cleric (I wasn't really planning on a Healer, for once, anyway).
Is there a decent spellsword kind of class? I'm visualizing a character in robes and very agile, but with some kind of magical element to his character (or, in the monk's case, total badassery). Is there something that mixes the Rogue with the Sorcerer, I guess is what I'm asking. I really like that, in 4E, the Warlock can use a blade as a spell implement. I'm kind of visualizing something similar. I want a melee combatant with some spellcasting, as well. I know I could multi-class, but if we're starting at first level, I wouldn't really be able to get both of these aspects unless there's a base class that covers it.

The vanilla bard can play this way if you do it on purpose - high amounts of flash and dazzle and daring-do.

Oh man, I really like the Duskblade. Now to find more specifics on it...

Oh, I love the Bard, but it doesn't really fit the concept at all.

I get the feeling he wants to play something a little more substantial. Bards are outstanding if you like support characters, but if you don't enjoy dolling out small but very helpful bonuses, they're basically a pathetic fighter combined with a pathetic spellcaster. I'm not knocking it, it's my second favorite character class (after the Cleric) in the core book. It's just not for everyone.

Yeah; the Bard's role is one that I do usually like to fill, but I want to try something different out this time. Honestly, there's this Bard concept of a war drummer supporting the group by playing different command patterns on a snare, but not for this game.
Which book is the Hexblade in? I've found that the Duskblade is in PHBII, but I'm not sure where Hexblade is.

I usually play the magnanimous soul with the healing abilities, which is nice from time to time, but can get stale. Generally I don't mind if it helps the party, but I have a nasty habit of dying early. This will be the first time I'm playing a mad hermit and doom-sayer though, so it should be a blast. I kind of wish we were playing a Gestalt game. That would be *awesome*.

I've always kind of wished that there was a decent straight-Healer class; one that focuses entirely on healing and isn't also a secondary warrior-type. Any time I played a Cleric, I usually played it like this, but I never found a class to really represent the concept. That said, I also have a limited amount of experience with 3.5, so I just may have missed it.
