Which bit? The deus ex thing? When did Batman become so 'all knowing' and 'the man with the plan?' The nineties?
The problem with him being a step ahead of anyone/everyone is the same problem Superman had that prompted (or at least was a factor in) DC having the first Crisis on Infinite Earth. After a while, a guy who can, quite literally, push the moon about runs out of stories that seem plausible or challenging given his vast abilities. Therefore when the reboot came he had a fraction of his former strength. Instead of being able to lift trillions of tons, heat vision through any substance, fly 125,000 times the speed of light and ignore nuclear bombs, he was depowered, made more 'human' and less 'godlike' and the reboot was successful (see Man of Steel around '86 ish)
If Batman continues to be the guy no one can beat because he is prepared with <insert weakness of foe> he'll get very boring very fast.
As an aside I loved the John Byrne take on Batman in that Man of Steel series.

If Batman continues to be the guy no one can beat because he is prepared with <insert weakness of foe> he'll get very boring very fast. What do you mean "continues to be"? He's been that way for two decades. It's old. The really sad part is that this isn't the first time Batman has been far and away the most powerful character in the DC Universe. In the 60's, Batman reached a ridiculous level of power* and they realized they'd gone too far, and reeled him in quite a bit. * - don't tell me Batman has no super powers. No amount of "preparedness" always lets you win everything, every single time. Batman is not only super powered, he's nearly all powerful.

I want to like Batman, but some writers and their relentless fanboying of Batman make the comics hard to read.

I want to like Batman, but some writers and their relentless fanboying of Batman make the comics hard to read. The writers are a sad reflection of a certain generation of comic book fans. Cyclops is a douchebag and Wolverine is a stand-up guy. Superman is a rabid anti-authoritarian internet blogger, and Batman is the best, smartest, and most special snowflake in the DC Universe. Personally, I can't wait until my generation no longer has creative control of comic books.

I'm pretty sure that any time there's a Marvel/DC crossover they alternate victors or there's a standoff. Neither company will ever concede that the other's properties are superior to their own. Ever!

Ever! There are usually one or two fights that end pretty decisively, but for the most part, you're right. I know the Hulk/Superman debate is endless, but to me it's always seemed pretty obvious that, lacking flight, Hulk is going to be Supermans b... prison girlfriend when Supes just grabs the big guy, flies him into space, and leaves him there. But when the two face off in comics... we never get a proper ending.

I'm tempted to say that it couldn't get worse, but whenever someone says that, we all know what happens.

What's the answer with regards Batman? Back to basics, no extended family, money, computers, fast car, implausible gadgets and no master plan for taking everyone down?
From what I can gather, he suffers from the 'secondary mutation' afflicting half of the Marvel Universe now, in that he's appearing in so many titles he appears to have a clone or be in two places at once. (Has anyone tried to figure out whose in the Avengers and the Freedom Foundation/Fantastic Four these days? I gave up and just figured 'everyone'. Same with the mutants, though at least that requires a qualification of being a mutant, rather than just being popular or needing exposure)
6 titles (though one was dropped recently) - Batman, Detective Comics, Batman and Robin, Batman: The Dark Knight, Justice League, Justice League International (dropped) and guest appearances in Nightwing, Batgirl, Batwoman, and Catwoman. He gets about a bit. And with each writer giving their own spin on the character he's bound to become 'diluted'.
Is Batman DCs Wolverine? (Best there is and appears everywhere, not a hairy short guy with claws)

I don't mind that he has a master plan for everything, but it's a little absurd that his master plan is always RIGHT. Furthermore, and I think this has been really ignored in this entire discussion, Batman doesn't just "out think" everybody all the time. Very frequently, it comes down to a physical altercation... and Batman still somehow managed to succeed. Making Batman seem vulnerable would go a long way toward making him suck less. It's what they had to do with Superman (multiple times), but Batman fans for whatever reason are more diehard (or as I like to call it, brainwashed). Yes.
