I've lived many lives, seen many events, had many names but through it all, I've always survived it.. It began in the Aztec Empire when I was born, my mother was a priestess of the goddess Itzpapalotl. My mother had been impregnated by a solider of the empire's army but he was killed soon after my birth. My childhood was behind the walls of the temple of Coatlicue and learning the history of my people and our connection to the lands. My grandmother, Tlazoleotl, was a bruja, a witch as you would call them now, and she taught me her ways of the magical arts. She told me that magic was a part of my family. We came from a blessed line as it was my ancestor who had aided the goddess Coatlicue during the beginnings of our empire. though in my village of Tamoanchan, things were soon going to change for the worse as one day, we all went about our lives during the festival of moons, enjoying life and the festivities when across the sky shot a red and white comet. The mere sight caused us all to instantly stop and look up while we watching in awe and horror. None of us had seen anything like this before, but my grandmother and mother knew something was wrong, both quickly left and went to the temple. Days later, strange men had come to our village, these men were strange and did not belong there, but we were not hostile. The men spoke an odd language to us that none of us could understand, but a subtle spell changed that and we broke the language barrier. The men and called themselves Crusaders, men who had come from the lands of Spain with a man named Cortez, they were surveying the area in looks for opposing tribes against the empire. My mother told them that we were a village of people who live in peace and nothing more. The men were a bit skeptical at first but believed us for the time being. They were shown around the village and offered to stay the night as they would be stuck in the jungles if they tried to venture off. That was the biggest mistake we've made. As in the dead of night, screams echoed through the village, bringing us all from sleep and to arms as we found the Crusaders were slaughtering village people. My grandmother quickly hid me away and told me not to leave my hiding place as they all went to defend our people. I spent the night, huddled in the corner of a hidden room no bigger than a broom closet. I must of fallen asleep in there as the next thing I remembered was waking up and getting out of the closet, night was still ruling over the sky as blood and fire were all left in the wake of the village. Looking around I saw my grandmother's body laying on the ground, quickly I rushed to her and tried to revive her. She opened her eyes for a moment and told me to leave while I still had a chance before she passed away. I cried over her corpse for a time before I heard a voice call to me.
The voice was calling me back to the temple. I followed it and ended up standing before the broken statue of the goddess I was named after, Itzpapalotl. "Do you wish to get vengeance on those who took your family from you?" she had asked me and without hesitation I answered, "Yes, I want them to suffer, I want them all to die." That was all that the goddess needed to hear as she told me to offer blood onto her and make a pact with her. I cut my hand with an obsidian knife and left a bloody hand print on the statue's remains; magic I didn't know I had awakened within me as markings of the goddess tattooed my body and a surge of power coursed through my veins. From there I remembered going through the forest and towards the shores of the sea, finding the men who had ravaged my village on a ship and on the beach. With my new power I called on the dead, I called on disease, I called on their death and watched them all die, one by one they fell before me. But I would not stop there, I would not stop until they were completely wiped from the face of the earth, so I breathed life, a false spark into their mortal shells and made them follow me towards the Aztec Empire. Word of them joining force had reached my ears from the souls of the dead and with that I brought hell upon them all. Ever since that day I left it all behind.
