I saw the first episode last of Daredevil last night. I thought it was pretty good. Wouldn't mind seeing more.

I'm just going to leave this here (even though half of the people here are too young to know this reference, I'm sure): For some reason it doesn't want to embed, so try this instead. ~TWF More than half, hoss. Even I was pretty young when Nightcourt was a thing.

So I'm finished with the series. The season ended a lot stronger than its middle suggested, but I'm still not in love with the whole thing. Owlsley was pretty awesome, and Wesley as well.
I think the real star of the show is Matt Murdocks freaky caterpillar eyebrows, but whatever. The show ended on a satisfying note, and had enough cool moments to justify the 13 hours I spent watching it, I guess.
Matt Murdock's priest is a third rate theologian though.
Wilson Fisk is also a terrible theologian.
... it just occurred to me that really, Gotham and Daredevil (the TV shows) are both trying to accomplish the same thing in a lot of ways, so I should say that, for all the problems I had with Daredevil, it accomplished the goal much more fluidly and entertainingly than Gotham does, so I should give it bonus points for that as well, I guess. I like Gotham, but DD is the better show.

I agree on all points, save that I enjoyed the show a little more.
Gotham is in a really awkward spot where the showrunner can't seem to decide whether it's episodic or more like a miniseries. This is one of the problems with the 22-26 episode format: it's too long to carry a persistent metaplot, but being fully episodic makes it hard to string together anything deep. Agents of SHIELD has this problem, too. Both shows are trying to have a complex, intriguing plot, but they also have monster-of-the-week plotlines going on within each episode.
By limiting themselves to 13 episodes, Daredevil is free from this awkward format. And even with such a short season the plot did kind of drag at times, some dialogue was rehashed (how many times does Ben have to warn Karen that she's in danger? I think they had that conversation about 4 times) and I think it could have been even tighter. There are a few good BBC miniseries (check out "The Shadow Line") that stay thrilling throughout because they're only around 6 episodes. You get the sense that anything can happen to anyone at any time. Even Game of Thrones only clocks in at 9 episodes. Anyway, you get the point.

I do think that the 10 - 13 episode format is producing tighter storytelling than the more traditional season length. The downside is that I don't have as much to watch, and I love TV.

I think the 13 episode season was a bit awkward for Daredevil. It seemed like it either needed about 16 episodes for two concise arcs that were also building up to the final act or maybe 10 episodes. I would have either liked to see more of the other gangs (besides the Russians) or not drawn out the overall narrative in the way they did.

Pretty much the entire middle of the season was totally unnecessary.

Yeah, they wanted more episodes, but I think they didn't utilize them well.

I don't know Night court but it reminds me of the credits on 70s cop shows (Kojak, Starsky and Hutch) and a little bit of 80s (Cagney and Lacey, Hill Street Blues). Was chuckling at some of the old cars. Those things are boats with wheels...
Over here we had the Sweeney, Professionals, Van Der Valk and other stuff that looks like zero budget crap a lot of the time. Old US shows just seem cool now.

So, Netflix has ordered another season of Daredevil. I'm actually disappointed; I thought they considered AKA Jessica Jones to be the spiritual sequel. They basically did everything, didn't they? What more is there to do with the character that warrants another 13 episodes? They kind of stretched this plot thin enough as it was.

There was also an interesting storyline where, because DD had removed Kingpin from the streets, chaos descended on the criminal underworld and things actually got worse in Hell's Kitchen, causing DD to reevaluate his mission... that was a long while back though (in the 80's or earlier), so I doubt it's up for consideration.
