"In the past the world was protected by shadowy groups of mystery men and women calling themselves 'Justice Societies.' Repeatedly throughout history, in times of crisis, these secretive organizations have appeared. It is without question that these organizations have accomplished great things, but truth be told the facts that their membership was anonymous, their true numbers were unknown, and they were answerable to no one also caused numerous problems. A brief look at the 1970's incarnation of the Justice Society of America reveals numerous inconsistent accounts, strange disappearances, questionable use of force, even accusations of involvement with various criminal activities. When some of the true identities were revealed, it was made clear that the Justice Society had a radical agenda; Oliver Queen was a known Marxist, Jefferson Pierce was tied to violent black separatist organizations. It seems that the only thing that kept them from bringing anarchy down on the entire country was their own incompetence and infighting. "A year ago, the United States government came to me with a question; how do we deal with these super humans? Normally when the government comes calling I tell them to get lost. I'm a private businessman; if I wanted to be in government, I'd run for President. In this instance, however I was intrigued by the question. Not just because of the very public harassment I've received from this so-called Superman parading around Metropolis in that garish getup, but because I believe that everyone, no matter how different, should be able to make the most of their abilities. Treating super humans like they're criminals automatically just because they're different isn't right. Telling them they can't make the most of their abilities in whatever capacity they can in order to make a living just isn't right. That most of them do what they do for free makes it all the more undesirable to force them to stop; charitable notions shouldn't be hindered, they should be encouraged. "So I took on the project. I didn't accept the contract they were offering. First of all, it would have been a tremendous pay cut, but more importantly, I wanted to be able to do it on my own terms. Billions of dollars of research later, one thing I can tell you for certain is that attempting to force some of these people out of the shadows is never going to work. The best we could hope to accomplish that way is to rob ourselves of some of our greatest champions. Yet, we recognize the danger. We recognize that if someone like Aquaman or Wonder Woman goes rogue, we're all in a lot of trouble. "And so here I am today, proud to announce that I have just received a charter to create something entirely new. Not a Justice Society, no. Those are things of the past; remnants of an era when those with powers ran unchecked. Today, I announce the creation of the Justice League International! Chartered through both the United States and the United Nations, with over twenty nations in full participation, this organization will serve a dual purpose. The Justice League will, of course, serve as a crisis response team, so whether its an alien invasion or a sudden evacuation, we will be there. In addition, however, the organization will be chartered to police the activities of super humans worldwide, to ensure that everyone is in full compliance with the law, and not just behaving according to their own whims. We won't be interfering in the perfectly lawful activities of heroes of the public trust, like Superman, the Green Lantern, and the Flash... but we will be putting a stop to the violent vigilantes, those who violate the law and choose retribution over justice. "Any questions?" ************************************************************************************************************************************************************ First of all; (starting with the first Superman, ignoring the second, and proceeding from there) these are write-ups I did for several prominent characters within the setting. None of them are available for this game, but the CADs do reveal how I'm putting together various DC power sets. Please notice that I tried wherever possible to keep the power sets SIMPLE, rather than adding new mechanics, etc. These CADs also show the sort of power levels I'm working with for this setting. I haven't written up much in the way of a background for the setting, but some details are revealed in the CADs of the various characters if you look closely (primarily at the "Challenges" sections). Seem like homework? It sort of is. I'm hoping to find applicants deeply interested in helping to build the setting itself, as much as in playing various characters. What I'm looking for in characters are people who might presumably join Lex's JLI (bearing in mind that, in this continuity, the JLI is the first and only "Justice League", though several incarnations of the Justice Society have gone before). Obviously not everyone buys into Lex's apparent humanitarianism. Characters who suspect Lex aren't barred from being part of the game (though I'd like to keep them in the minority), but they'd need a good reason to be joining. Characters who immediately spring to mind for this; Blue Beetle Booster Gold Supergirl Superboy The Question Kid Flash/Impulse A (non-Hal Jordan) Green Lantern An Atlantean An Amazonian A former Robin etc etc etc BUT TEDD, CAN I PLAY AN ORIGINAL CHARACTER? Well, yes, but please tie them in to the DC universe in some way. If you've got a totally original character who happens to be a GL or a Kryptonian or something, send it my way. If you've got a totally original character who has a unique power set and comes from a dimension you've just invented... well, I applaud your creativity, but save it for when someone creates an original universe please 8) BUT TEDD, DIDN'T YOU ALREADY POST THIS? Well, yes, but I ended up having a problem because the "no stone count" thing went horribly awry on me; I had submissions that were too far apart to even attempt to reconcile them. To whit... STONE COUNT The stone count for this game is 60 +20, with systematic leeway available for people wanting to portray notoriously underpowered builds (like low modifier brawlers)

Odds are I'll tweak the Superboy I submitted before, maybe toy with a GL... Or maybe, just maybe a former Robin.

Didn't I submit something for this before? If so I'd like to submit it again... Unless that last one was unacceptable.

Even if quite different, my pitch for the first iteration of this (a Wonder Girl trapped between Amazons and Atlanteans) feels too close to what I'm already playing in mcr's game, so I'll go for something else but I still don't know what. Been a busy day, too tired. I'll think about this (and well, post in the games I'm already in) tomorrow. I've a Flash related idea, but it's too raw, and it's getting late, so I'll wait until being fresh tomorrow to see if it sucks.

Your sarcasm detector hasn't improved any in your absence. I don't have a problem with Zatanna as a character. I have a problem with Sorcery as an Action. Generally, I have not had too many problems with you as a player going nuts, so I'd probably at least consider her.

"You can stop this, you can fix this, I have faith in you" his voice echoed, coming from all directions at once, yellow bolts of lightning flying everywhere, a vortex menaced to swallow her. "But we could end up..." she protested, weakly. The speed force had already absorbed other speedsters, never to be seen again. "We weren't made to stand still, we are agents of change" he insisted, worry lingered on his voice. This could be the only chance. "And if I end up changing something I shouldn't?" she made the eternal question. "You are right, it's a big responsibility, more than I could ask from anyone, so many people... But you Nora, you can change it, you can do this. Now run, Nora, RUN!"
Lightning surrounded the girl as she turned and started to run towards the vortex without a word. With each step she could feel the pain, as needles stinging all over her, but she could let it go, she could give in and be with her family again. "No" she mumbled, barely conscious. She had to keep running, she could save everyone, she had to. Black tendrils were barely visible in the edge of her eyes, but she kept looking forward, running forward.
Lightning stroke in the city, as she stumbled into an elegant office. Where was she? When was she? Metropolis was recognizable through the windows, but something was off. "A speedster? How brave of you to get into my office, a bold approach to an interview for the JLI, that's for sure" she just noticed the man doing the talking. Lex Luthor. She knew the man, how couldn't she? But his words confirmed her worst fear, something had already changed, even if she didn't had any hand on it. She was no bookworm, but she knew enough history as to remember that Lex Luthor never had any implication in the Justice League, even less an International one. "So? All the running has left you breathless?" Luthor insisted. She had to say something, do something. Maybe being in the JLI would clear something and give her the chance to help, after all, if the known philanthropist that was widely known in her time had involved himself to create a Justice League, there had to be a good reason to do so. But she had to get the job first, she had to show Luthor that he could trust her, how...
"I ran a lot to be here" she said, trying to behave as normal as possible in front of the legend. If he recognized her as a speedster, there had to be a Flash in there. He could still be alive and well. Nora tried to focus, there would be time to know more about this world, but without references, how could Luthor trust her? What could she do that earned his faith? "I'm..." she doubted, as she really didn't have a codename back then, it was the first time she donned the red and yellow she was wearing. She had never been a hero until that recent moment, now distant in the future. And then it occurred her, maybe that would suffice, a show of trust from herself. Working around the red haired ponytail on top, she removed the head part of the costume to reveal her unmasked face. "I'm Nora Thawne, and it'd be an honor to be part of your Justice League" she introduced herself.
The Kid Flash thing attracted me, but I know next to nothing of any Flash that isn't Barry Allen, so I decided to go into some time travel shenanigans to have a young flash trapped back in time to fix a timeline she doesn't recognize. That way not only she has the feeling that something is amiss, but also doesn't know anything of any events that are about to happen. Furthermore, where/when she comes from, Luthor is a legendary good guy, so she has no reason to suspect anything at all. What is going on with the Speed Force that was a trouble that sent her back, and how a Thawne ended up being one of the good ones is there to explore.
As always, any feedback is welcome.

Sounds like a great candidate for a character who comes from the counter-earth/anti-matter universe/whatever else DC has called the "reverse world" over the years. And also the future. I like it.

I've got a TK heavy Superboy and a Guy Gardner submitted. Still toying with a former Robin (Dick Grason going all Batman Beyond).
