It was late at night, as Michael "Mike" Miller was walking back from a rather pleasant evening spent sharing a beer or two with his friends at the local watering hole about a ten minutes walk from his home. And yet, while the well-lit street and the relative closeness of the establishment and his apartment should normally have been reassuring, he soon realized that he was experiencing something... more than a bit worrisome. Namely the feeling of being followed, of being watched.
It was the third time that week. He looked around, once, twice. Nothing out of the ordinary. A couple of late partygoers or other people busy with their own lives going about, but nothing standing out. Still, he couldn't shake the uneasy feeling. And those reports of a serial killer in the area of late...
"Again with this feeling.." He thought to himself as he felt the feeling for the third time. Real good way to ruin a buzz, that's for sure. "It might just all be in my head, but if not, and this feeling is real, this freak already knows where I live.." He shook his head. At least the apartment had SOME security guards around. ..sometimes. He continued to go home.. Once he's there, he'll make sure everything is locked, and head to bed. If he makes it, that is.
Despite the bad feeling in his gut, Michael made it back home, likely relieved for making it safely...
"I'm hurt, Mikey. Feels like you're avoiding me", said a mocking, mid thirties man's voice behind him as the young man was thrown by an unseen force against the wall before he could even turn the lights on! "And I only wanted to be friends, too", said the man in black, wearing a shirt, black jeans, shoes, a trenchcoat and baseball cap obscuring his eyes.
Nothing is impossible, it just hasn't been done yet.
"Gah! Mike cries as he gets flung to the wall. So this guy not only knew where he lived, but he somehow got in too. He wasn't prepared for someone to already be inside, and this dude was obviously strong to have thrown him to the wall. A fight won't last too long if they went at it. He'd have to go with an SOS.
"I'm hurt, Mikey. Feels like you're avoiding me. And I only wanted to be friends, too",
"S-sorry, guy. Only women and family can call me Mikey.." He said nervously. "And if you're actually my father, well, technically you left me first.." He said slowly getting up, but also reaching for his phone in his pocket. All he would have to do is tap the power button 3 times quickly, and an emergency SOS would be sent to his mother, his cousin David (who lives in the same apartment complex) and his buddy Allen who is just a 10 minute drive away. The SOS message would be a snapshot of the front and back camera of the phone (with flash), and a 5 second audio clip, all from pressing the power button 3 times quickly.
Within that 5 seconds, he would say the following "Break in at my house."
(OOC: I'm going to assume I have my Droid phone and it's capabilities to do this?)
While sending the SOS, just in case this guy wanted to stop it, he'd do his best to protect the phone so the message goes through. At the very least, David would only take 1 minute to get there if need be.
Action 1: Agility 2 to be sneaky about getting my phone out of my pocket
Action 2: Unarmed combat 4 to defend myself and protect the phone so the SOS goes out. (Just in case this guy tries anything)
OOC: I never got to use this feature of my phone yet. Guess I get to use it for the first time here lol
(OOC: That and he flung him into a wall without touching him, too. XD Also, cool. Phones are pretty awesome.)
"Humor, even in the face of death. I like that", the man said, closing in.
Luckily for Michael, the man did not realize what he was doing until the message was already sent.
"Break in at my house."
"Ohohoh. Calling for the cavalry, huh?" he said, snapping his fingers... causing Micahel's phone to break apart, disintegrating in his hand, turning to dust. "Technology is so incredible nowadays."
Mike was pretty sure the phone call got through; what he wasn't pretty sure of was whether or not David would be of much help against that monstrous man. Still, despite the fear he could feel building up within him, he-
...Had he just hallucinated that? Electricity-like arcs running between his fingers. It couldn't be, now could it?
"...Hehehehe. Looks like I was correct... you are one of us", the man in black said, grinning, as he raised his hand, lifting Mike off the ground with the same invisible force he used before. "I'm going to open you up like a clock... and see what makes you tick."
"...Hehehehe. Looks like I was correct... you are one of us..I'm going to open you up like a clock... and see what makes you tick."
"One of what?" He asked before being taken up by the invisible force. "Must have been my phone that you just blew up..somehow.." He said scared, not really believing a phone could have that much of an effect after blowing up. "C-come on now..we can talk.." He said in a panic. He couldn't gather up his thoughts neatly. To put it together that he was being held up with an indivisible force, and his phone just combustion with a snap of this man's fingers. All he knew was that he was being handled by a threatening man. He didn't think much of the electricity that came from his fingers, as he thought it might have been a delayed after effect of the phone?
"L-look. I have some money you can have. It's in my account. Why don't we talk first? I won't even go to the cops about this.." He said trying to barter for his life. Meanwhile trying to figure out how much control he has over his body while being held against this invisible force..
Action 1: Social skills 3 (specialty: Bartering) to barter with my life?
Action 2: INT 2 to feel my body out, see how much I can still move around while being held up
Michael found out that - although he was successful in doing so - even talking was proving to be difficult as the invisible force otherwise held him immobile despite his best efforts.
"Money? ...I don't need money. I need to know how your brain functions. How your ability works", he said, as thunderclaps resounded outside, the sky covered in stormy clouds. "And for that... I need to see it with my own eyes", he said, holding out his index finger at Michael's forehead, causing a sharp pain as he felt blood running down his temple.
(OOC: Take 1w of damage.)
...Then, all of a sudden...
"Yaaaaaaaaaagh!" Michael's cousin David yelled as he slammed a baseball bat into the man's skull, causing him to fall to his knees, and allowing Michael back on his feet. "Come on, let's get out of here!" he let out, rushing to help his cousin out... only for the door to slam closed on its own.
"...Hnnh... neither of you are going anywhere", he grumbled, rubbing the back of his head in pain, while knives from the kitchen floated in midair to hover, blades first, towards the two. "...Scream for me."
"You first", said a voice with a thick Japanese accent, as a katana blade pierced the black-clad man's stomach from behind, causing him to cry out in pain and fall to the ground along with the knives, revealing an Asian portly young man in a white shirt, black pants and dress shoes, with glasses, and a sheath strapped around his shoulser, in which he put his sword back. "Is no more danger. I save you", he announced, touching the two cousins' shoulders...
...and apparently teleporting with them in an hotel room, far away from Michael's home!
"I am Hiro! I have powers, like you!" he said proudly, as another man walked out of a nearby room to meet them. He had dark skin, black curly hair, clean clothes and a kind expression.
"You are injured. Please, have a seat, I will get the first aid kit", he said, getting back in the room he had just left. "Don't worry, you're safe now. My name is Mohinder Suresh... I am a friend", he promised, walking out with the first aid kit, as David glanced at his cousin, seemingly completely at a loss as to what to think of... anything anymore, really.
This is a lot to process all at once...Michael was having a difficult time shaking the weird feelings away.
"Hold on.." He shook his head to Mohinder's comments. "We almost just died...from a guy with...telekinesis or something..Then this guy teleports us after stabbing the dude in the stomach..." He tried whispering it out loud to make it more real and understandable.
"Powers..." he whispered. "Okay. So powers are real. I was always secretly hoping they were. But.." He thought to himself as he looked at Mohinder. "I don't think I have a power. I think there's a mistake." He said looking to David. "Do YOU have one?" He asked.
(OOC: Just so you know, you would have heard of powers being real before. Like I mentioned in the intro thread, some supers have already been revealed: Superman, Batman (who could very well appear superhuman to most people), the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man... there's not many, but there's some of them running around who are known to the public already.)
"You really think I'd take on that psychopath with a baseball bat if I could, like, throw fireballs with my hands or something?" David pointed out, himself more than a bit freaked out by the situation. "Unless you count being scared out of my wits to be a power", he grumbled.
"If it helps you sleep better, although I suspect it might be the other way around, Hiro did not kill Sylar back there", Mohinder noted as she proceeded to clean Michael's wound and disinfect it, being clearly trained in first aid. "...That monster just doesn't stay dead no matter what we did so far. He can heal from most anything we tried. And forgive me for having my doubts, but I think you are mistaken. Have you not noticed, how the weather turns stormy wherever you are, whenever you are experiencing stressful emotiones lately?" he asked.
Now that he mentioned it, the weather had been very stormy lately, and he soon realized that every time he had felt like he was being stalked, the weather had turned ugly fast.
"My colleague, professor Charles Xavier, has... certain abilities as well. One of those is to detect people like you... evolved humans, or mutants, as the media calls them... when their powers manifest for the first time. He called me, and told me he had sensed you", Mohinder explained.
"And Brain Man", Hiro added.
"...And Sylar. The man who tried to kill you. He can sense people with abilities as well. He can steal powers from others by slicing their heads open and studying their brains. I assure you, he would not spend days tracking a normal human. He would have too much to risk with nothing to gain. You have powers over weather, of that I am certain."OOC: You recovered 1w and now have a bandage around your head.
OOC: Just so you know, you would have heard of powers being real before. Like I mentioned in the intro thread, some supers have already been revealed: Superman, Batman (who could very well appear superhuman to most people), the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man... there's not many, but there's some of them running around who are known to the public already.)
OOH! I must have misunderstood. I thought you said they WERE going to be revealed as time went on. But they already are? Cool. Noted.
"If it helps you sleep better, although I suspect it might be the other way around, Hiro did not kill Sylar back there. That monster just doesn't stay dead no matter what we did so far. He can heal from most anything we tried. And forgive me for having my doubts, but I think you are mistaken. Have you not noticed, how the weather turns stormy wherever you are, whenever you are experiencing stressful emotions lately?"
"Yeah, that won't help me sleep for sure.." He shook his head. "Also...weather? I..guess I did notice the weather was going off the forecast a bit. But I never thought much of it.." He said thinking about it. "Weather control...?" He said out loud trying to even think of a specific time something seemed off with him. "I..can't grasp that idea too well. I mean, if someone told me I could teleport like Hiro here, or like..control fire like that other guy I heard about, then I can get a better idea. But weather controlling?" He said in disbelief.
"I..guess I'm not safe if people like that Skylar guy are out there then.." He said. "I guess.." He started. "I don't even know if this is a valid question, but...is there someone out there who can help me with this? Like, help me learn what's happening to me?" He asked.
"It's Sylar, actually", Suresh said, nodding. "Of course there is. Professor Charles Xavier is one of them. We are here to help as well."
Meanwhile, David stepped forward, nudging Mike. "...Hey! Shouldn't we warn the others not to get anywhere close to your aparment, and let them know that you're fine? That crazy bastard could hurt Allen!"
"No one else is in danger, and Sylar left your apartment. We have friends currently in pursuit, and one of them is as strong as he himself is. He isn't stupid... he'll be forced to run away. Although... letting your family know that you are unharmed would likely be a good idea if you warned them", Suresh noted.
Nothing is impossible, it just hasn't been done yet.
"Of course there is. Professor Charles Xavier is one of them. We are here to help as well.
"This is all kind of sudden, so please excuse me for needing time to adjust.." He shook his head. "I guess I'll need people to help me to harness this power. To control it. If people are going to potentially be coming after me, then...I'll need to know how to defend myself.." He said looking at his hands.
As to David's comment: "Yeah, we should let people know that I'm alright. Umm..Allen and my mom got the message. They'll probably be checking if I'm okay. Could you call them and let them know I'm okay. ...just leave this freaky stuff out of the conversation. I'd rather them not know about this." He said.
"So.." He looked at his hands. "Is it okay if I went outside and tried it? Like, my so-called powers?" He asked.
"Take all the time you need", Suresh said, visibly understanding. "...There's no rush, and we got your back."
"Sure, I'm on it", David said, walking outside to get a better connection with his phone.
When Mike requested to try and use his powers, Suresh seemed very interested. "Why, of course. I'd very much like to see it for myself, actually. It will help us understand what you can do better, as well."
Nothing is impossible, it just hasn't been done yet.
"Why, of course. I'd very much like to see it for myself, actually. It will help us understand what you can do better, as well."
"I mean, I guess.." He says as he sounds unconfident. He just needed that moment to spark for him to realize that this is all real. He walks outside, unless told to stay inside, and tries out his powers.
"Weather based on..emotions..." He says thinking about it. "That kinda sucks, because I hardly show emotions as it is. I'm usually content. But, let's work with what I'm feeling now I guess.." He says extending his arms at mid-length.
"Hmm....Confusion. Anxiety. Fear?" He tried to think about it as he 'expressed his power' outwards from him.
Action 1: I guess INT 3 to think about what I'm doing?
"I guess we'll see", Suresh said as he accompanied him outside to see the results.
Mike tried his best to focus on his emotions, which oddly enough - or rather, as would normally be expected - did not seem to do anything at first... or even after that, for that matter. However, as he focused, he soon enough realized that the stormy skies outside seemed to indeed follow his guidance. Soon enough, he managed to calm the storm down a bit, or intensify it, whichever he pleased to try.
However, it wasn't even that which seemed to impress Dr. Suresh that much... for as he proceeded to try out his ability, Mike's eyes began glowing with a bluish-white light, while what looked like arcs of lightning coursed through his body.
"...Looks... like we were partly right? Your emotions seem to... affect the weather unconsciously, as opposed to intended control", he noted. "Also... your eyes are glowing", he noted.
Nothing is impossible, it just hasn't been done yet.
