I have quick question; forgive my newness, I want to do well at this game but I'm unfamiliar with the rules.
What I want to ask is this: if we are in the middle of a situation and I want to know more details, like "is there anything around me that is usable in the current situation" how should I phrase that? Does it count as an action? or my turn? Should I post that in the current game? For example; in our current situation I am standing outside of the burning Krupp building and I know that there are some people on the 4th floor who need saving, but in my mind all I know for sure is there is me, the road and the building. Not much to work with. How should I go about finding out what is at my disposal?
Thanks again guys!!

That is a very good question. I would like to encourage player creativity and therefore give you some creative license in these situations. If you need something that would typically be there, like a fire escape stairway, a flag on a pole jutting out of a building, a tall van parked nearby, a big four story statue that's climbable, a close fire hydrant, a blanket hanging on a nearby clothesline or a convenient onlooker with a cellphone, you can spend one stone or more of Intelligence to find such a thing from your current position, or spend stones in something like Speed to run around looking for it, or use an applicable ability like Social Skills in the case of asking a civilian to "Call 911!" The more stones you spend the more likely I will agree that what you need is there in a convenient place for you. (I still need to beleive it's reasonable.) 1 stone may be all that's needed if the item really should be there, like if you are at a desk and want paper and a pen. Please then write your post assuming it is there, and I'll let you know if you need to modify your post. That's what I like best about these boards... you CAN modify your original post! (So for instance, if this isn't clear, and you let me know... I can update this explanation to make more sense.) In this case I can help you out even more. Here is a map of the area. Captain America is on the south side of the Krupp building, between One Angel Tower and Two Angel Tower. (by the street) Also, here is an example from another game I'm in where another character did as explained above to look for something he wanted: With that Sunstruck goes to work. He begins scanning the area looking for something that he can use to clobber the Thing with. A weapons store would be nice but what he is really looking for is the largest vehicle he can find. Sure Ben is tough but I bet he would feel an SUV slamming into him. Now if I can just remember how to hot-wire the vehicle.
Action #1 2 stones in intelligence + 2 from Checkmate's leadership to find something that might hurt the big fella. (hopefully an unused vehicle)
Action #2 1 stone in close combat + 2 from my staff (one stone shifted to defense) to break out any window or other wise gain access to any locked vehicle.
Health 3/3 Energy 6/9 Defense 2 (1 close combat + 1 uniform)

One more thing (since Steve Jobs didn't leave us with one Are there any links on this board that are good for new players? I'm going to go pick up a copy of the MURPG source book so I can learn more, but I'm also looking for an online link. I searched the board and couldn't find anything that explains core rules and the like.

a couple good intros can be found at: murpg.proboards19.com/index.cgi?board=generalThe following two discussions there provide a little into to the game. - We Can Be Heroes: An Introduction to the MURPG
- Scrappin': Hank and Logan's Guide to Combat
[P.S. in my previous post I mentioned finding a citizen with a cell phone. In this game that will be very difficult. It's 1983 at the Daily Bugle.]

FYI: I'm being nice and PMing players who post to help them out with stone allocation. I know this is a new system, so I'm giving you a chance to modify your first post if you want. Look at the top of your screen to see if you have any new messages. you can then click on the link to go directly to your inbox. Try it out, even if I didn't PM you yet.
My last piece of advice was that if you already have 3 times your current Health in Energy, using the amount of stones equal to your Health won't really cost you anything, because you regain your Health in stones every panel (Marvel Universe for a "round").
On your character sheets your Health is listed as: current #/max # (The Thing is the only one who is not hurt.)
Energy is listed as: curent Energy #/Energy max at full Health All heroes have 3 times their current health in Energy, except for Captain Marvel who has 0. This is due to the Radioactive Man making a special action to reduce Captain Marvel's Energy, instead of her Health. Captain Marvel can still act this "panel", but has no stones to spend on actions... unless someone with Leadership like Captain America takes a leadership action, essentially giving CM up to two of his own stones of energy, by saying some inspiring word to help CM rise to the occassion.

So far 2 out of 4 heros have posted. I WILL post the results of a turn without waiting on all 4 heroes, but I'd like to give Spidey and CM one more night to chime in.
This is the DAILY Bugle. Please post daily.
Thank you!

I posted with only two responses but I hope everyone can post this weekend.
If you notice I got a little deeper psychologically with Spider-Man in this post. I want to encourage all players to treat this as a role-playing game, not just a beat up the bad guys game. Let's have fun with character development too!
You may have spotted I gave Captain America some hints in his post as to how to spend his stones of Energy next turn to accomplish what he wants to do. Since he spent an action and a stone on Intelligence, I'm helping him out. If you ever get stuck, have your character spend an Action and some Energy using Intelligence to figure it out, and I'll give you a hint if I can. (Note: Spending an action and a stone of energy on how to rid the universe of Galactus won't get you squat.)
"Why does Captain Marvel have only 1 stone of Energy?" You may ask. I delayed CM's recovery because I didn't get a post. If you get incapacitated in any way in this game, please still post. If you give me a good post, you may even recover quicker. (Getting free stones for roleplaying well or writing flashback panels.) If I don't get a post from you, I may keep you in a weakened state to explain why your character isn't doing much.
The Thing started the last post, but ended this post. The Marvel Universe RPG says that the order in which players go is determined by the GM, using Agility is the standard method. However, in this case I decided to try going with the Agility for initiative. Spider-Man 6, Captain America 4, and both Captain Marvel and Thing have an Agility of 2.
I'll keep these "lessons" going so we can all learn as we go. (I'm learning as a GM too!)

Since the Thing is holding his breath, I needed to look for some rules on this. I found them in the web supplement Spider-Man's Guide to New York. DROWNING AND SUFFOCATING If you become trapped underwater (or in any situation where you can't breath), you lose 1 red energy stone per Panel. While drowning or suffocating, you don't regenerate any stones. You can still take action, but if you run out of red stones, you die. The best defense is to flee the area as quick as possible! But if you can't, or won't, you can always exchange Health stones for energy. Each Health stone sacrificed yields three energy stones. Health stones traded in this way won't be regained simply by reaching fresh air; they must be healed normally. [Since I will apply this new rule with my next post, pogmothoin can modify his last post, if he wishes to.]

Q: How does one regenerate energy?
A: Red stones regenerate into your Energy Reserve at the beginning of a new Page. (When each of the players has performed a single Panel of Action, in order, then a Page has been completed and the players move on to the next Page, where they will again do their Panels in order.) As a general rule, one red stone will regenerate at end of every Page for each white stone of health that you have up to the maximum of 3 red stones per white stone of health.
I did the stone regeneration for each hero in my last post in game. For example, Captain America's Health was stated as the following at the end of Enigma's last Panel:
Health: 2/4 Energy: 4/12
This means that Captain America's current Health is 2. At the end of my last post I updated Captain America's Energy to 6/12 because my post marked the end of the Page. (6 is Captain America's maximum Energy Reserve when his Health is 2.)
[NOTE: This is the general rule, but there are exceptions. For example, the DROWNING AND SUFFOCATING rules, Spider-Man's Healing Factor, Radioactive Man's Master of Radiation effect on Captain Marvel, and the Special Intelligence Energy Rule.]

Welcome to The Daily Bugle, talismanhex!
Captain Marvel's Health is down to from 3 to 2 because the Fixer shot her with his laser pistol. Therefore, her maximum energy is limited to 6 until she can heal back up to 3 stones of Health.
Do you now want to change your vote for least favorite villain from Firebrand to Fixer? :-)
