The Uncanny X-Men: Interlude

Once again, the X-Men are gathered around the VCR in the library. [OOC: This time with dorkknight23 playing Nightcrawler!] Everyone has rested overnight since the battle at the cannery, but Professor X looks worried and worn.

"I had you salvage the robots' memory chips because there was something familiar in their style and programming. Their memory banks confirm my suspicion." Leaning forward, Xavier presses the recorder's play button.

"This tape was made from the memory bank of the Wolverine robot," he says. "The false Mentallo contains similar information."

Everyone recognizes the scene on the television as the interior of the cannery, but besides the machine it contains a large console and an electronic map mounted against the south wall. Four green spots shine on the electronic grid, in North America, South America, Asia, and Australia. A lone figure in a purple cape and red helm works at the console. As the figure turns toward the robot Wolverine and smiles, the open front of the helm reveals the sharp, cruel features of the X-Men's greatest enemy, Magneto.

Wolverine

Logan, back in his usual blue jeans and white t-shirt combo, was understandably angry from learning this; he now had a face and a name to put on his not-so-mysterious enemy that tried to frame him for a false murder.

-Magneto's the son of a... (Beat) He's the one responsible for all of this? This day keeps gettin' better and better.

He considered lighting a cigar, but Xavier was against smoking within his close surroundings... and the whole mansion, if possible. Instead, he set his mind on figuring out what the heck could have been Magneto's plans all that time.

-I don't get it. Why would he went through all this trouble? Why would he fool Fixer to make him attack us, or more precisely, me, only to let us retrieve Mentallo and clear my name so easily? Aside from those two robot weaklings, a few crappy defensive systems here and there and this weak force field, nothing kept us from rescuing that guy, and I'm sure Magnet-boy knew we could easily get pass those. Did he wanted us to find him that way? It doesn't make any sense... could very well have send us a big letter saying "hey, I'm planning some bad stuff. Try and stop me", would have been a whole simpler.

Logan stopped talking, preferring to listen to the others opinions on the matter; also, he thought things over again, trying to see if he didn't forgot an important detail or three.

3 stones into Intelligence to think things over again, trying to remember any important data he might be forgetting that would lead to a clue on Magneto's plans.

6 stones into Black Ops to try to link Magneto's tactics to Logan's knowledge of "hidden meaning" plans like those he's using against them, in the hopes he can understand their arch-enemy's behavior.

Rogue leaned against the wall sideways with arms folded across her chest and legs crossed at the ankles. Her expression was one of grumpiness or discomfort. "Ahm sorry I couldn't get more out ah that Mentallo. His psyche was bouncin' aroun' in mah skull like a bad game of nine ball. All I could git was, Magneto was behin' it all, not the why." Rogue mood slipped even further when thinking of Mentallo's residue stuck in her head forever.

Kurt presses his fingers together as he pensively watches the screen. "I think there is more at work here, mein freund...perhaps he is trying to lure us into a trap, or some kind of larger scheme is at play?" His yellow eyes dart nervously as he watches.

"Perhaps...perhaps he is trying to lure us to search for those other green spots on his map?"

[toast]

"Right Tovarisch, he wants us to split up. Two of us for the other three green blips." Colossus deduces," Maybe to lure away from here.

Wolverine

-No, I don't think it's because he wants to split us up. Nothing says we are in a hurry to investigate those spots on that map, so we could very well decide to investigate one at a time. Magneto would know that, and he would have indicated somehow that we needed to get at all four areas fast if he wanted us to split up. But blue boy's right, I think he wanted us to know about these locations..... but why? Beats me.

[Presto]

"Magneto has always been a calculating figure... It's difficult to intepret what his plans may be. However, we can't ignore this threat... But I fear Piotr may be right, it may all be a ploy to remove us from the mansion, to force us to expend our recources... But we have no guarantee of that possibility." Storm spoke out loud, trying to confer with the others.

"We still should investigate... But as Logan pointed out, we have no reason to have to search all the areas at once. Atleast no reason so far."

Nightcrawler looks pensively at the map, "Right, but...where to begin?"

Kitty sits and listens staying quite as she looks over the robots parts. "Why would he go thru all trouble of the fake robots, just to have Fixer come so we could get the map? She asks as she thinks. "Are the locations on the map familiar to anyone?" Kitty asks hoping it a clue in it self.

As Wolverine mulls things over, he remembers that the X-Men are still holding Mentallo and the Fixer. A little questioning might lead to a clue about Magneto's plans.

"I have deduced one of the locations as a United States military reservation in the Colorado Rockies," Professor X states. "However, it will take more time and information to figure out the others."

"Mein Gott..." Kurt intoned, "Whatever Magneto would want from a military base, it can't be good. But we also must tread lightly; perhaps he wishes for us to make his entrance, as it were."

"Can't the Professa' jus'...you know..." Rogue waves a hand in the air. "Probe our guests for info? Or should some ah' us jus' go have a chat? Mentallo has to know more than whah' Ah got out of 'em already."

Wolverine

Xavier would probably not probe their "guests" just like that, not if there was another solution before going that far. Logan smiles and look at the professor:

-I'm sure professor Xavier knows how glad I'd be to interrogate these two knuckleheads, but what I'm less sure of is how far I have the right to go in such an interrogation, heh heh. Depending on how stubborn they are, I might have to be... a bit more convincing than simply askin' if there's anything they'd like to talk about.

Kitty nods "Professor could Rogue, but just cause it the easy way to doesn't make it right. Besides Wolverine should be able to umm convince them to talk." Kitty says as she looks around hoping not to of offended Rogue.

Rogue nodded sagely at Kitty's words. "Yeah, I guess I kin understand that. Touchin' Mentallos' mind wasn't all that fun for me either."
