Following in suit with manticore's Space Opera thread, I'm going to go ahead and post what I've been working on for a kind of "Ultimate Nintendoverse" game I've been planning to play with my roommates. When I say "Ultimate," I basically just mean that certain characters have had changes in motivation or relationships with one another, but all good guys and good guys and bad guys are bad guys. I certainly wouldn't ever choose to make Ganondorf a good guy, you know? Anyway, here goes nothing! Oh, and I'm setting up the framework first just so I can get this posted before my internet kicks me off... again. World Regions[/u] Nintendopia1 2The most influential land to world-wide activity, Nintendopia is really two regions united under one government. The Mushroom Kingdom (based on the map from Super Mario RPG) and Hyrule (the map from Ocarina of Time fitting into the empty space in the Mushroom Kingdom map) have recently formed an alliance with one another, establishing a large Senate to help deal with issues of national and international importance. Many attempts have been made to bring Elibe into the union, but internal struggle has prevented this. The Senate functions very much as a way for the different sub-regions to commune and keep tabs on one another to ensure security across all lines. A few years previous, Hyrule was ravaged by Ganon, who was finally imprisoned after the predestined Sages sacrificed themselves to give Link the aid necessary to pacify the sorcerer. Security has become a big issue since then, with representatives from Hyrule frequently attempting to get aid from King Bowser in the case that Ganon returns. On the Mushroom Kingdom front, King Bowser rules with an iron fist, but nobody can deny how effective a leader he is. The citizens are not very discontent with his methods (except for the Toads, who have dealt with strife from the Koopas for countless generations), but he has been known to get over his head in many occasions. In the end, the people recognize that he generally has the good will of the people in mind and, should he go on any of his personal rampages, Mario will always be there to save the day. Elibe1 2Elibe is pretty much defined by internal struggle. The current recent example of this revolves around the sudden death of Roy, king of Lycia. While the cause is still unknown, many are claiming it to be an assassination. In his place, Wolt has stepped up as a de facto leader of Lycia, as Lilina has been sent into a massive depression due to Roy's death. Many opportunists hope to sweep in and take control of the land, with the Elibean armies barely in any shape to defend against pressing assaults. Kanto, Johto, Sinnoh, and Hoenn1Discontent with the way the Humans in Nintendopia and Elibe were starting to focus more on the aggressive elements of human nature, a few set sail for a new land to call home. Eventually, a massive continent was found and the Humans began to settle it. Maintaining a strictly isolationist stance, the "Orange Islands" (nicknamed for the fruits that were first discovered there) have excelled far beyond the other regions on the world in the various fields of science. Mossdeep City marks the first, and only, spaceport on the planet, which has opened up entirely new worlds of discovery to Orange scientists. Also notable about the Orange Islands are Pokémon (a name given to the local fauna). Due to the controlled environment they live in, the creatures evolved in a way very different from in other regions. Pokémon developed a special bond with the Humans in the Orange Islands and have come to be friends and companions to them. While many use Pokémon to battle, the Pokémon are sure to pull punches and keep everything in fair competition unless they have been raised in a way to promote aggression. It has been suggested by a few biologists that Pokémon display sentience on the same level as Humans, but many ignore these ideas and say that, while Pokémon are very intelligent for mere animals, they lack what Humans consider "sentience." SpaceBeyond the bounds of the planet exists space. Very few have left the mainland to explore the great beyond, but those that have come back with fantastic stories. The open sea of stars is free from planetary laws, so many pirate and mercenary groups exist and thrive in Space. Intentions and methods vary from group to group (as a prime example, Star Wolf and Star Fox, two mercenary wings of ace pilots, have very different ideologies), but Space is far from being a safe haven. Space Pirates are a known threat to any who explore the stars and bounty hunters plague the skies. The planets in Space exist as they do in the space-faring games (Star Fox and Metroid, namely), with some changes that I'll decide upon if the game ever extends offworld. Important Canon Players[/u]
Nintendopia
King Bowser Koopa, the Feared and Respected Tyrant Over the Mushroom Kingdom While portrayed as being almost entirely evil and selfish in the video games, this incarnation of Bowser is slightly different. While he is in no way a good person (well, Koopa), he is a powerful and effective leader, using his vast amount of cunning to maintain Mushroom Kingdom as the justified capital of Nintendopia. He tends to have his underlings act for him, but is not afraid to put himself into the middle of something if necessary.
Princess Peach The elected Senate representative from Mushroom Kingdom. Peach is kindhearted and fair, her political prowess allowing her to ensure that the Mushroom Kingdom is fairly represented amongst the other nations. She is a strict pacifist, and tries her very best to avoid violent struggle wherever possible. Currently, she is trying to organize a movement to help end the struggles in Elibe, both to stop the violence and to build stronger relations between Nintendopia and Elibe.
Mario Mario Mario Mario is a decorated hero in Nintendopia and is highly respected by almost all of the people who live in Mushroom Kingdom. He has fought many times to maintain the peace within the region. His last known adventure brought him around the outer circle of Nintendopia, repairing the Star Road. Now, he is spending time relaxing in his house just west of the Mushroom Kingdom and acts as an advisor to Princess Peach along with his brother, Luigi Mario.
Mallow Having recently been reunited with his parents in Nimbus Land, Prince Mallow has become a powerful force in the Senate. Originally, his timid nature was not appreciated by his fellow senators, but he has grown past this and has become an integral member, often swaying many of the other senators to his way. Many believe him to be nothing more than a charismatic leader with little to no knowledge about what is going on around him, but this truly isn't the case. Mallow has the best intentions for his people in mind whenever appearing in the Senate and is more than just a good speaker.
Link Many years after the conflict against Ganondorf, Link has disappeared entirely from the region of Hyrule. His absence has startled quite a large portion of the citizens, prompting them to wonder what has happened to him. In reality, he has retired into the Lost Woods, living in the Forest Temple. He keeps a careful watch over the land as an agent of the Sages, despite not being present physically, and has appeared multiple times in various disguises to stop conflicts from developing into larger problems.
The Sages I'm going with an interpretation I read somewhere about the Sages in OoT dying before being awoken as a Sage, so keep that in mind with this. The majority of Nintendopia does not know of the Sages that helped stop Ganondorf's tyrannical regime, but rather believes them to be nothing more than martyrized leaders, given fantastical powers as a bid to increase their appeal to various citizens. The truth, however, is that the Sages were decided through fate before time began, and their death brought their powers to be. They now oversee the happenings of the world, allowing the inhabitants to choose their own fate and are biding their time until Ganondorf returns and they can perform their duty once more.
Elibe
Lilina With a deep love for Roy, she has been set into a fit of depression after he was assassinated and rendered unable to keep up the throne of Lycia. She still stays on as a figurehead, but she spends most of her life locked in her quarters. The people are told various things about her condition, but due to her frail status, many citizens of Lycia believe their nation to be doomed in the conflict.
Wolt With Lilina out of commission, Wolt has been asserting himself more, realizing that he's one of the few able to make a difference against Sacae. At the time of Roy's death, he was a head general in the Lycian military, his snipers considered the best in the land. With little official backing, he is now attempting to keep the morale and prepare his soldiers for the worst.
Alan and Lance After Roy's death, discontent with the way Wolt is trying to take the military, both Alan and Lance left with a small squad of soldiers in order to start anew and bring Lycia back to what they think it should be. Their attitudes have changed greatly, and the two are now wanted by both Ostia and Lycia for treason.
Wendy On the Ostian front, however, things have been going better than in Lycia. As the only heir to the throne, Lilina passed the position of marquess onto Wendy upon her marriage to Roy. Considered a bold and highly criticized move by nearly all people, both Ostian and Lycian, Wendy has struggled against a large amount of prejudice as a female marquess. Ostia, however, is doing very well. Its military is one of the strongest the nation has seen and it has reached an economic peak. Still, Wendy is criticized unjustly as a weak and ineffective marquess.
Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh
Professor Oak Professor Oak is one of the leading researchers on the entire Pokémon continent, his studies unrivaled by any peers. The only scientist to come close to matching his expertise is his grandson, Blue, who has only just started in science after retiring from a highly successful career as a professional Pokémon Trainer and Gym Leader. Professor Oak has patented multiple devices that are taken for granted by many trainers, including the Pokédex and it is rumored that his work went behind the development of the Master Ball, although this evidence is not supported elsewhere. He is a friendly man and there are few who dislike him across the entire continent.
Team Rocket Crime is inevitable, even in a land as utopian as the Pokémon continent, and Team Rocket represents that crime. While most people use Pokémon as partners and friends, Team Rocket uses their Pokémon to further their own, nefarious goals, going as far as to use Pokémon to perform violent crimes against humans, an otherwise unheard of act. The team is led by Giovanni, who many believe to have retired from the business. His primary motivations are for wealth, but many of his higher ranking underlings have extended their ideals to a much larger scale, causing a few to branch off to start their own organizations. While none have come to a real start yet, Team Galaxy, Team Magma, and Team Aqua have been seen very rarely across the continent. Their ultimate goals are unknown to most, but they are clearly aiming for something beyond the wealth that Giovanni desires.
Space
Team Star Fox One of the most respected mercenary wing in space, Team Star Fox has become almost infamous for their ability to take down their target. While they have only been known to take jobs that seem to be for a good cause, a few still denounce them as nothing more than guns for hire, and if the right sum of money was offered for a more nefarious goal, they would take the job in a beat. While this theory hasn't been proven yet, Fox's devotion to his father's will will ensure that the wing stays just as long as he is in charge.
Team Star Wolf Established as a reaction to Team Star Fox, Team Star Wolf is more highly regarded within many circles due to their ruthless efficiency than Team Star Fox. Coupled with Wolf's militaristic attitude regarding mercenary work and his hatred for James McCloud's legacy, Team Star Wolf always seems to get on the same jobs as Team Star Fox or acts for the side opposing them. Team Star Wolf, while having better technology, always seems to fall just short of Team Star Fox, however, but that only adds fuel to their fire.
Samus Aran Teams Star Fox and Wolf are called on generally by governments or business organizations to ensure that all goes smoothly on various transactions, when an employer wants a job done quickly and quielty, Samus Aran is called. She has a skill that surpasses all of her peers, caused by her growing up with the Chozo (but nearly all don't know about this aspect of her past and calk her skill up to some kind of superhuman abilities). She is cold and heartless, working only for the mission, famous for completing tasks that are believed by all to be impossible with nothing more than a scratch on her ship. Her identity is a mystery to all, even her employers, but her skill is known to all. The only bit of humanity that shows through the suit is her hatred for the Space Pirates.

Humans[/u]
By far the most common race to see around the world, Humans have made their presence known. Humans have a reputation for being very diverse, with very few cultural stereotypes applying to the entire race. The few that do apply describe Humans as being fiercely dedicated to whatever cause they decide to allign themselves with, but with a short temper to compliment this. Because of this combination, Humans have also been known to be the cause of many, if not all, violent struggles worldwide. The violent tendencies of some aside, many Humans have also been renown for their works to counteract the actions of the others in their race. This demonstrates the trait most widespread within the race: balance. Humans are a race that is kept in order through a strong sense of balance. As an inherent part of their nature, Humans attempt to undo what others do if it doesn't suit them, causing an unintentional series of checks and balances.
Humans are a very diverse race. Because they have spread so far across the globe, their evolution has taken a few distinct routes. Considered the "baseline Human," those that inhabit Nintendopia (also known as Hyruleans) have been identified as the closest relation to the first Humans on the globe. The Hyruleans have led a troubled existence. Their lands are cursed (more or less) by the plague of a dark Sorceror known as Ganon. He appears every few generations and causes mass destruction, attempting to take the lands for himself. Because of this, it has been hard for the Hyruleans to develop beyond the technological age they are still in. They are most easily distinguished by their pointed ears, which some xenobiologists believe have remained as they are to aid with hearing far distances. An offshoot of the Hyruleans, the Kokiri are children that live within the Lost Woods, the magic of the forest keeping them in a permanent youth. They maintain their youthful idealism, but dare not to leave the forest else their immortality be lost. Because of this isolationism, very few people know of their existence. They are treated more like a fairy tale than anything else.
For one reason or another, probably just through standard migrational patterns, the Humans of Hyrule and Elibe parted ways. Far out of Ganon's reach, the Elibean Humans were able to evolve independently of the Hyruleans, although they have maintained a similar level of technology as their Hyrulean brothers. The Elibeans, however, have a strong call to combat, presumably due to the harsh environment they live in. In order to safely claim the land for their own, dangerous creatures had to be fought off, including wild dragons and wyvern, which they have eventually domesticated into their armies. To the Elibeans, strength is an important virtue regardless of which independent nation one resides in, but other qualities have begun raising in importance through the years. The society is still highly male-dominated, but as of late this has been changing. While some protest this change, the wheels of time are deeming it an inevitable future.
Frustrated with the constant warfare in Elibe, many Human scholars set sail to find a new land to colonize and establish as a scientific base. These Humans established the regions known as Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh, referred to as the Orange Islands by locals. The Islanders have developed a much more advanced level of technology than their brothers across the sea, which they explain through their dedication to intellectual pursuits rather than combat. Another important thing to mention is that the fauna of the Orange Islands have been domesticated over the generations in a similar manner as the wyvern of Elibe, although the Pokémon are not used as frequently in heavy conflict and it is a very rare sight to see a Pokémon harm a human. The conjoined evolution of both races has caused a mutual bond that exists before birth between all Islanders and Pokémon, with nearly every household having at least one Pokémon companion.
An interesting thing to note about the Humans is their strong connection to magical energies. While all races have examples of magically gifted individuals, no other race is as strongly tied to these forces. Studies have shown that all humans have the capability to practice magic (which is a skill that cannot simply be learned) without the use of external devices. Most Humans do not realize this potential, at least consciously, but it is believed that this magical connection explains many of their distinguishing traits, such as the Humans' ability to bond so closely with animals (such as Elibe's Wyvern Riders and Pegasus Knights) and the advanced technology of the Orange Islands.
From a game statistics standpoint, Humans are the "normal" race of people. All physical Abilities cap at 4 and Intelligence at 8. Humans also get a -1 CL discount on one non-super power Action of their choice (ie. Inventing but not Flight) or on Mastery of Magic (but none of the Actions tied to MoM, such as Sorcery, and no additional -1CL on Actions such as Hex Spheres). This is used to represent the deep-rooted connection with Magic that all Humans seem to share, but any Human character with the Mastery of Magic Action should be ready to explain how he or she came to earn that Action.
Next... The Zoras

Are you still planning this out?
I'm not really a big fan of Nintendo except maybe the Pokemon series, but this looked like a very interesting game and I was wondering if you were going to expand it?
[British]Anyway, good show, Brainstem![/British]

Ha, I haven't put a whole lot more work into it since then, since it didn't appear to be receiving much reception. I can get back onto it, though, if you like. I kind of have this whole idea for a big, united, dark world for Nintendo to be played in, kind of like Subspace Emissary, but not lame.

Where does Kirby, Sonic, Pit, etc. live? Is that in Nintendopia?

I will be very interested to see how you resolve the differences between the game systems. I mean- Pokemon Trainers exist in what seems like a completely different physical universe to the Marios Bros or Link.

Well, part of it is consolodating differences between the worlds. For example, the Pokémon are able to function as they do because of the isolationism of their continents, which created a vastly different evolutionary line than those in lands like Hyrule and the Mushroom Kingdom. Likewise, the Mushroom Kingdom will be portrayed in a more realistic light, with the characters not acting quite as black and white and having more synergy with governments like in Hyrule.
Sonic won't be included as he isn't a Nintendo character. The others aren't in primarily because I'm very unfamiliar with their series of games and, rather than BS through some of them, I'm just choosing not to include them. Still, their homelands are pretty clearly defined, so Pit would live in a community above the clouds and Kirby would live on a planet in the unexplored regions. Likewise, the regions in Earthbound would probably be included in the Pokémon Islands due to their more up-to-date technologies, with some meshing used to mix the worlds.

Superbro, this universe looks awesome! Kinda makes all the crossovers make sense, but yeah I'm with manticore, you should branch this out into a game of some sort (was that you were going to say manticore or did I simply assume?)
Atrom, Sonic is a product of Sega, so he wouldn't be in a Nintendverse and while he could live there it would lead to another country with Robotnik being some sort of terrorist or dictator, like in SATAM...you know that would look too bad.

Well, since there does appear to be interest, what would you guys like to see next? Try to keep it based on what I've mentioned in the posts above, as any other bits of Nintendoverse may just be outside my realm of knowledge.
EDIT to say: Also, I made Space mostly unexplored also so company crossovers (such as including Sonic) could happen and be explained away later as the character coming from an unknown region in space.

Say I wanted to play as Krystal of the Star Fox Team... how would you handle the Arwing?
|
|
|
Post by Brainstem on May 8, 2008 23:22:27 GMT -5
I'd rig up some standard Arwing stats, but there really aren't any vehicle creation rules, so I'm not sure how to handle it. Probably base it off of the PA/Robot rules and factor it into character cost. If a character wants a particularly modified Arwing, it would be taken from total character cost to help with balancing.
That said, I kind of intend this universe to be played with non-canon characters as the PCs. Rather than be Krystal, you may be a pilot in a similar wing, maybe a "junior wing" or something started up maybe by one of Star Fox or an official in the Cornerian government. Kind of like a new set of heroes to step into the shoes of the famous ones, you know?

I had a concept scarily similiar to this that took place in the Brawl Universe and involved trophification and the like, however I would love to join if there is a game being planned. Could I perhaps play a Goron?
