I liked Bale as Batman, and I liked the flicks. I don't feel they ignored his detective sklls anymore than any other incarnation of Batman on the big screen. <shrug> True I guess. Hopefully they don't stray even further from the bat with the next movie...

Anyone looking forward to Thor in a couple weeks? I sort of am.
In the meanwhile, enjoy Tom Hiddleston as Owen Wilson as Loki:

I'm pretty stoked for it... especially after a few lackluster weeks of releases.

Can't decide if I want to or not... but that's invariably how I've felt about EVERY Tom Hanks movie... and invariably end up enjoying (well, except Cloud Atlas. That I just could NOT get into despite three tries)

I couldn't find an existing thread for it, and didn't feel like making one, so I came here to talk about The Wolverine, which I just watched. Anyone else seen it?
To my utter surprise, it did not suck until the last 20 minutes or so. Until the end they had a really cool noir thing going there, and I was actually into it. Then things had to go all Hollywood blockbuster at the end, but even so.. better than Origins, and better than X3, and probably a little better than First Class. Some of that is probably the low expectations talking, though.
EDIT: Oh, and the Godzilla trailer above gets a pretty decisive "meh" from me. After Pacific Rim, it seems anticlimactic.

I didn't like much any of the Wolverine movies, but I'd take "Wolverine does pretty cliché and silly things in Japan" any day over "Wolverine's hamfisted origin story", not sure what is the one you are talking about. And yes, Godzilla trailer is creating a weird "Where are the robots?" feeling on me, a pity.
Oh, and I enjoyed the Weird Adventures of Several People: The Desolation of Smaug this past weekend. More entertaining than the first one (that I liked), but still a pain to have to wait for the third one to have the full adventure.

The Godzilla trailer looks like they tapped into every possible cliche.

Any thoughts about the American adaptation of Oldboy?
I haven't seen it but I guess it won't be as good as the original.

I want to see the remake of Oldboy, but it got panned by pretty much everybody and didn't do well at all in theaters.

With regards the Godzilla Trailer cliches' they are trying to reboot a fanchise so need to tick as many no brain action boxes as they can to get people interested. Plus its a giant monster movie, there's only so much you can do with the subject matter. It'll be - investigate strange site, follow clues, big thing wrecks a place/plane/ship/thing and all hell breaks loose. All the guns and bombs will be like firing pea shooters then something else - Godzilla - turns up, and you can scoop your brain out and leave it in the drinks holder till the end of the movie for 40 minutes of cgi mayhem.
There've been dozens of Godzilla films with wobbly guys in rubber suits and they all followed pretty much the same formula. I've been made to sit through most of them thanks to my oldest boys fleeting obsession with Godzilla (before that it was comics in general, then Marvel, now we're on Minecraft). I mentioned the new Godzilla movie and he didn't even shrug at it. Still, we'll see what turns up. I think it's going to be a Godzilla vs 'another big monster thing' type of movie.

CUBIS SLIGHTLY MORE IN DEPTH JUSTICE LEAGUE: WAR REVIEW WARNING: SPOILERS
I could write a whole thesis about this movie it has THAT much I enjoyed and at the same not DID not enjoy about it. I mean really its a shame, DC has a strong reputation in the animated home video field and I really feel like this one missed the mark HARD, and I mean harder than some of the hiccups they've had in the past. To make it easy Ill do PROs and CONs
PROS
The Animation-This is without a doubt the strongest element of the film, and if every other piece of talent put as much effort as the animators did then this movie would be another worthy addition tot he DC vaults. The character New 52 designs Im definitely 50/50 on, but when in motion each hero stands out in the fight sequences. I definitely had a rare tingling down my spine watching the Justice League do battle, a not so unfamiliar feeling from when i sat down in the theatre to watch The Avengers for the first time. Everything from objects to bodies have a real sense of weight to them that made me really appreciate the action, cant get enough of it
The Audio Engineering-Complimenting the animation, the sound effects crew absolutely knew what they were doing, and I had to point it out as it just stuck out to me how REAL everything sounded. GUns have different calibers, stone smashing on glass sounds different from steel smashing on stone, even the "fake" sounds of laser fire and high speed WHOOSHES really added to the experience
Green Lantern/Wonderwoman IN MOTION-While two of my biggest cons(SEE BELOW) THese two characters when fighting OUTSHINE the other Justice Leaguers whenever they burst into melee. Once they finally shut their mouths I can SEE Hals mental process as his head darts from left to right, processing and conjuring constructs so fast that he has definitely got a handle on ring slinging, I havent seen such a great animated GL ringsling since Emrald Knights, BIG Props. Wonder Woman exudes a strong warriors lethality, and legitimately had me impressed as she kicked some SUPREME amounts of ass. Definitely an Amazon on screen if I've ever seen onem the swordplay animations were just ART in motion, in the best way
CONS
THE VOICE ACTING- Oh my god, I mean, OH MY GOD. The real shame here is that its so hit and miss. THe biggest offenders to me are Green Lantern and Wonder woman, which I will get into greater detail below but believe me there the WORST offenders. Shazam sounded like he was trying but just couldnt quite be brought to care, Batman is a parody of Nolans if I've ever seen it, and Superman sounds like a straight up douchebag. Having said that, Flash and Cyborg were both very well acted but when 5/7 of your voice acting leads are phoning in thier shit, well, it brings down the rest of the performance
GREEN LANTERN-Man, if anything actually hurt me it was this. GL is a character very near and dear to my heart, but his voice actor AND his the way he was written for this film made me want to puke. Justin Kirk aka Andy Botwin from Weeds is not a bad actor, if you've seen him work he's got great dramatic and comedic range which to be fair I think a good GL voice actor DOES need (Nathan Fillion, anyone?) Hal Jordan has to walk the fine line between fearless hero and brash paramour, but listening to his vice sounded like a bad Deadpool impression with the script given. I mean, VERY off the mark for the character.
Wonder Woman-While Green Lantern was bad, Wonder Womans voice actress was a crime against humanity. I get the feeling that she wanted to show Dianas naivete towards the modern world, but i could practically hear the pages flipping as the lines come out and Wonder Woman sounds borderline AUTISTIC. No really, listen to her lines and DONT watch the animation so no distractions, I genuinly think she sounds mentally handicapped "ICE CREAM IS WONDERFUL!" that is a direct freaking quote....
Superman-I wont waste too much on this, but Superman was just...kind of an asshole. I got no sense of that southern humble nature or anything echoes of hte big blue boy scout as we needed him to be. No nobility, his performance just felt....empty and mean
Overall, this film was lukewarm for me, watch it for the Action, dont stay for anything else

I'll have to check that out, Cubi. I only skimmed it because spoilers, but I'm generally satisfied and sometimes really impressed with the DC animated features. I didn't realize this one was already out!
