I hate it. The costume looks messed up, I would have preferred the Superman Returns/Smallville version over the one from that link. I mean the 'S' I'll get over, but the rest of the design just...seems wrong. Why did they go in that direction? why the grayish-like tones for the colors? What's with the belt buckle piece if they're not going to have him wear a freakin' belt? it looks stupid.

Yeah, I don't like it either. Oddly, I loved virtually the same costume when he had it in the comics (of course, that version was brighter, and didn't look like Superman thought he needed a stealth suit)

Gungy is the right word. Maybe that's after a hell of a fight or something.. or maybe he needs to switch detergents. But at least he doesn't look so mean in these images.

Actually it was some kind of alternate world or something. I can't remember the exact context. An image of Superman in a capeless getup very very similar to that one has been floating around the internet for... at least 5 - 6 years. I used it for one of my Supermen that I played on this board.

The only image I know of on the internet that looks close to that superman costume is the 'Ultimate DC' concept art Wizard Magazine came up with. It looked far better though.

I quite like the design of the costume, at least for a film. Before judging the film based on these pictures, remember that they are candid set pics. When a film is made, the final product is lit and color corrected to hell and back. The difference is night and day, sometimes literally. Some movies will shoot night scenes during the day and then color correct it back to night, as it gives a certain "look" to the scene. Sometimes characters will have multiple versions of a costume that the actor will wear depending on the time of day, how they'll be lit, whether they're doing a stunt, whether their body is going to be modified by CG work, etc. So we can't say it's too dingy until we see the trailer.
Also, regarding the patterning on the costume and the alien/Kryptonian sort of piping on the body, what looks good on a page as a bold and static design can suffer greatly on a living person. On film, the artists/director/cinematographer/etc. are creating moving images of varying textures, colors, shades, and depths. A flat color spandex unitard with red underwear is exceedingly hard to make look interesting. Donner did it well in the first movie because Chris Reeve is charming as all hell and absolutely owned the posture and physicality of the character, and because the movie itself was very much a "four color" kind of Silver Age piece. Doing a simple costume like that in a movie that looks to be exploring Kal-El's alien roots and grounding him in the character drama of "why would a god want to be a man" may have proven a poor fit.
Also, hey dudes. Hope you're all well.

So I found this reaction video to the new costume from DragonCon (I think). Batgirl is outraged, Harley Quinn digs it, the Riddler is questioning his sexuality...its almost 10 minutes long and I didn'watch the whole thing, but feel free... ;D

I missed.

My rule of thumb is this; if Riddler thinks your costume might be questionable, you should probably change it.

I almost want to watch that whole video to the end to see what Ming the Merciless thinks about it...almost...

Ming comes in around 3:34. He likes the costume, but he makes some comments about Superman's "package" (his word) that make me uncomfortable.

LOL. Eh, I do not know about the actor and the costume has potential, I can see they are trying to go Kryptonian material then the spandex route.
As for the Superman Returns? The actor looked the part but has no screen presence and the plot had a few holes in it. The thing that pissed me off the most about the movie is Supes left so much plot unresolved. He do not go back and get his memory crystals and do a lot of other things.
I think the two best Supes ever were Reeve and the guy who played in Louis and Clark.

I loved Superman Returns admittedly because it felt like a tribute to Reeves. He was my childhood Superman, and Routh played a good Reeves Clark Kent. Yeah, there were a lot of holes, but it still gave me warm fuzzies.
I'm leery of the new guy. I like the idea of "Kryptonian material," as you pointed out, but that pic looks grungy to me. I dunno...I hope it will rock a lot. But I dunno...
