I have yet to figure out why they're "rebooting" Spider-Man so soon after the last movies. It's a contract thing. If they don't put out a movie every so often (I believe it's 5 years), the rights to make Spider-Man movies revert back to Marvel. The Spider-Man license is too potentially lucrative to lose, so they'll spit out a movie as often as they need to to keep it. Which makes me wonder if Marvel ever gets the Spider-Man rights back, if Sony keeps making movies. I mean, they would eventually because the movies have to be theatrical releases and gross a minimum amount of money, and Sony can't keep spitting out throw-together Spidey flicks every 3 years and expect to keep them profitable... but contract-wise, I wonder if there's a termination or re-negotiation after 20 years or something. I know that DC basically shot itself in the foot with the way they sold the rights to the Superman and Batman movie franchises. Ah, that explains it, thank you. I had no idea the comic companies didn't own those rights.

I had no idea the comic companies didn't own those rights. Sometimes, they do. It just happens that before Marvel started it's own movie division, it licensed Spider-Man and Fantastic Four to others. The Superman thing is a bit more complicated, and has become a legal battle.

I wonder if that's why Captain Marvel has come more to the fore in the comic books (in the DC Adventures game he's more or less the equal of Superman, and Black Adam trumps both as far as I can tell?) in case they lose Superman? Plus the character of Superman has changed so much (especially with the look and powers) that DC would argue that it's a completely different character save the name, certain characters and locations that Messrs Shuster and Siegel cooked up. Maybe that's why the character reboot/appearance change...? (Aside from boosting sales for a year before the inevitable tail off)

DC has just pretty much ramped the power levels of it's characters way, way up all around (or they had, prior to the reboot). Superman went from being the strongest character they had to being one of the weakest, since nearly everyone rivaled him in raw power, and nobody has his numerous, obvious weaknesses.

Yeah, I think I recall something about Captain Atom, Green Lantern and a few others rivalling Superman, along with some references (one in the 'DC Universe Encyclopaedia' which my son got for xmas) that suggest Martian Manhunter is as strong or stronger than Superman, which I think is nonsense - the guy has a power list longer than your arm anyway. Some characters border on the ridiculous (like the planet moving pre Byrne reboot Superman, complete with stupid stories as no one could hope to go toe to toe with him in a scrap). In Marvel, Sentry is another. No wonder they scrapped the character. What attraction is there in a character that can't be beaten?

That 360 of the Avengers shows Cap Americas costume to be by far the dorkiest look (is there even such a word? Dorkiest? Anyway, am sure you get the meaning). The Ultimate version of Cap was always more hardcore, had a better look about him and he'd jump into a scrap with absolutely anyone, Hulk included. I'd prefer if they based him more on that character.
Ghost Rider 2 is out this month. Anyone going to see that? I'm assuming it'll be another Nick Cage turkey. For some reason I quite like the fellow, but only after his turn in the Family Man, which I think only I watched. Ghost Rider 2 might be the first box office flop of the year... you heard it here first folks!

The moment where Cap stood up to Hulk in the early issues of Ultimates was in fact a direct reference to an event from the main line of Marvel comics.

Oh, and
"The Avengers aren't showing any signs of going away soon, as this week Captain America actor Neal McDonough stated that Thor 2 will be immediately followed by Captain America 2 and a Nick Fury movie."

Nick Fury movie? No thanks.
I mean, with the real Nick? Great. With Samuel L. Fury? Pass.

Ha! Didn't they attempt that with sh*tastic results? With The Hoff? Well, yes, but that doesn't mean it couldn't be done properly. They didn't exactly get off to the right start the first time around, casting David Hasslehoff.
