Maye I'm just jaded, but I'm not really seeing the Twilight stuff that you are. Gwen strikes me as youthfully exuberent (even though she's being portrayed by an actress who has been out of high school longer than she was in high school...), and Peter strikes me as the same "laugh through the pain" guy he's always been.
Peter Parker was emo before emo was cool.

We discussed this version of Peter Parker's extreme emo-ness in another thread. He's insanely emo. He comes across as Donnie Darko with super powers. The Twilight vibe comes from the way he and Gwen are depicted in the trailer. They are mostly staring longingly at each other, holding each other in some melodramatic way, etc. There is little to no joy in this depiction of their relationship, as it is with Twilight. From what I've seen of Twilight, we're informed that the two are in love and then we cut directly to the angst and the sorrow and the sadness. Let's have a quick look at the Peter + Gwen scenes in the trailer: 0:13 - Peter hops onto Gwen's fire escape. Clearly, he already has his powers, and is hiding something from her. There is already a secret in the way of their relationship. However, they at least seem slightly happy to see each other, though neither of them really smiles - especially not peter. 0:19 - Peter is at dinner with Gwen's family. There is a lot of tension - tense music, stiff body language, no conversation. Captain Stacy asks Peter to "tell us a little about yourself" in a very skeptical tone, and Gwen looks anxious. Again, there is an obstacle in the way of their happiness - he must win the approval of her stern father who doesn't like Spiderman. Gwen laughs nervously when Peter and her father get into an argument. 1:30 - Angsty, guilt-ridden conversation with melodramatic caressing and soulful staring. 1:35 - Gwen looking angsty and painfully sympathetic to guilt-ridden emo Peter Parker. 2:06 - More melodramatic caressing during what seems to be one of those must-tear-self-away-from-fragile-woman-in-angsty-way-so-as-to-go-do-my-duty-and-maybe-I'll-die-in-like-some-really-sad-and-epic-way kisses. They both look miserable. 2:08 - Gwen looks angsty, worried. "Oh, I'm in trouble.." she sighs. 2:12 - Gwen looks over her shoulder, looking worried again. 2:15 - More melodramatic contact, staring into eyes, breath caught in throat stuff, only this time he's in the costume, and we have to wonder if she knows who he is. Again, something is between them. 2:17 - Gwen in black standing in the rain with a black umbrella surrounded by people in black clothing also with black umbrellas at night with not a speck of colour to be seen anywhere = emo. Oh, and she looks angsty. Their relationship as shown is devoid of joy. They are constantly sad, worried, and angsty, and almost constantly cling to each other like they were in a burning plane about to crash into some mountains. LOOK FAMILIAR?EDIT: I'd like to take this moment to coin the name "Twiderman". ~TWF

Since we're dealing with the same dude from Social Network, I like to think this isn't a new Spider-man sequel/prequel/regurgitation. No, what pilots me through this newest iteration is that maybe, at its core, this is just a really f*cked up sequel to Social Network.

Wah, where did my post go? EDIT: I've been having connectivity problems since we had a bad freezing rain/ice storm a couple weeks ago and noticed that a few of my posts have been disappearing right after I post them, but that doesn't make any sense to me. At any rate, George Takei was just there to look. ~TWF

I'm not sure what happened. Your post was there. I got a good laugh out of it. I think this is the result of some crazy liberal Canadian internet law.

Oh god no. TWF, that's too close to the mark to be anything other than tragic.
The Amazing Twilightman
I'm going to go quietly sob myself to sleep now, curled in a foetal ball under the covers *sniff* I'll be back on this site on the eleventieth of never, after the pain, angst and sorrow has worn off.

I wonder if the new spidey suit comes equipped with razor blades for cutting himself when the emotional pain is too much..

The "Untold Story," from what the trailer showed, is going to be some backstory on his parents, not on Peter.

The "Untold Story," from what the trailer showed, is going to be some backstory on his parents, not on Peter. Oh, I agree. But even so, they're basically boasting that their movie is the same exact movie as the 2002 one, only with some extra stuff about his parents tossed in. In addition to "THE UNTOLD STORY", I have some other taglines to suggest, such as: * THIS TIME THE GIRL IS BLONDE - SHE WAS TOTALLY A REDHEAD LAST TIME * UNCLE BEN IS ALIVE FOR SOME PARTS THIS TIME * CHECK OUT THAT NEW MASK - SOME BITS ARE BLUE * HE'S SLIGHTLY TALLER ~TWF
